If you remember, at the end of Facts of Life, Blair became the headmistress of Eastland, and the school went co-ed. A spinoff was to come from that, but didn't. Guess she tried to resurface that idea?
I thought it might be Lisa as well. Nancy is not interested at all and Lisa has her collectibles show. That means she’s still interested in the biz. Kim did go on to eventually have her show on Netflix. She could have been shopping around the show prior to her Netflix deal.
@@kallen868That idea wouldn't be consistent with the story. In the last reunion movie (that Jo was not in), Eastland had since been permanently closed. Wonder what Blair did to sink it?
Lisa was to have her spinoff in 1988 but Mindy also was, too. Nancy doesn't really have interest or she was just very busy working in 2001 when the did the original 2001 movie. I feel the reboot would WORK as the 4 girls could be TEACHERS at Eastland. Sadly, I don't think it will happen now. I thought they were all friends. I feel it's Lisa who wanted a spinoff. The three girls were there in 2001, so they were all friends. Nancy just couldn't be there because of The Division. Kim and Mindy are good friends. Kim watched out for her when Mindy was chosen to play Natalie and had zero acting experience. Lisa most likely is the one as she isn't in photos with them. NOBODY would watch a Blair spinoff without the other girls! It should be of all 4! Lisa, if it's her, should understand that it would work better with all 4 than with just her!
Looking at it from Lisa's perspective, she was the only one who wanted the show to go a tenth season. She also hoped to continue the FOL legacy with her own show as headmistress of Eastland. She clearly has expressed her devotion to the show by promoting it everywhere she appears. Meanwhile, the other women immersed themselves in other projects. Perhaps Lisa was worried that, after one season, the others would decide that the reboot was not for them and would opt out just like they did with the original show? Maybe it was SHE who could not trust THEM.
Upon further research, I found an interview that Mindy did and she called out the co-star without naming names, when asked what do you think Natalie would be doing today? Mindy responded with... I think she is still working at the New York Times and VERY close to Tootie and Jo! (with a sheepish grin). Podcast is Behind the Velvet Rope Podcast. episode title Mindy Cohn OG FOL Actress Remaking the Golden Girls
Yes and she also mentions in two other podcasts that she and Nancy talk once a week and are the only two regularly talk a lot. Bit surprised it wasn't Kim but based on other things, they are still close as well.
I adored this show. It gave some sort of balance to a VERY tumultuous decade. However - and I'm not in anyway trying to disrespect the fabulous Cloris Leachman - but Charlotte Rae was the heart and soul of the show, and it should have ended when Edna was married off.
A few months ago Mindy gave an interview on Behind the Velvet Rope and talked about a Golden Girls reboot with the cast but said she didn't think one of the women had the chops for it, and it got a lot views/everyone was stunned she would shade a cast member. She was totally talking about Lisa!
@@WolfModig If what Mindy is alluding to is true, then it's Lisa, not her or the other girls, who was being shady about things. (Trying to back-channel negotiate for her own spinoff *without* the other girls while the group is still in active talks about a continuation series is both a betrayal of friendship on Lisa's part and also professionally extremely rude.) Per other interviews from over the decades, it was related that the girls had always negotiated as a group relative to reunion movies, appearances, etc, except if one of them didn't want to do "x" (like how Nancy didn't want to do the reunion movie because she was doing other things at the time). It's Lisa who broke that a few years ago and, more so, went about it in an underhanded way vs having it be in the open as part of ongoing negotiations -- Ex: she could have suggested that if the group couldn't reach an agreement with producers/a network (NBC, presumably), _then_ perhaps the network might consider picking up the old idea of doing the Eastland spinoff as intended back in '88 except it didn't go through back then. *That* would have been fine and above board because then it would have been after the group negotiations hadn't panned out and everybody would be in the know the entire time. But Mindy is saying that's not what Lisa did.
In fairness, if there was no contract which prohibited what has been alleged, the unnamed former cast member may have had a good reason for trying to negotiate her own gig. Maybe she needed the money or perhaps (like Kim Catrall), she thought a reboot was a bad idea. We do not have all of the facts. Mindy is behaving in a very unprofessional manner. If this is typical for her, perhaps she was part of the problem.
Assuming it was Lisa Welchel (Blair), then it would likely have been her seeking to pick up the intended spinoff from back in '88 ("Eastland") where she was the head mistress of their former boarding high school (which is where we left Blair off at the end of that series, though she had still become a lawyer per the reunion movie in 2001). The point Mindy is making is that for all these years none of them had spoken ill of each other and they had always negotiated as a group relative to reunion movies, etc, and only doing "x" if someone had decided for themselves not to "x" (ex: Nancy McKeon didn't want to do the reunion movie as she was doing others things at the time). If the group negotiations had reached a stalemate and/or nobody was interested in a group continuation series, *THEN* it would have been okay for one of them (Lisa) to try to pursue something along those lines (trying to do the Eastland spinoff). But that's not what Lisa did -- she tried to back-channel negotiate for her own spinoff while the group was still negotiating _and_ exclude the other girls from that series. That's a hardline betrayal of friendship, and professionally very rude to do while group negotiations were still in-progress.
@@tideoftime except Lisa not only has her show on MeTv (Collector's Call), but she's extremely religious, and seems to "walk the talk" If I HAD to guess whom it was? probably Kim Fields - who was so successful after FoL, that she probably expected to be the star of the show and wanted a show focused on Tootie. but who knows?

It's weird that one of them would see themselves as a lead character. It's like having a Sex and the City with only one of the women. It just would not work.
I agree this should be kept private. There was no reason to bring this up 40 years later unless you want to stir up unnecessary drama. The speculation is ridiculous.
@@terriw919fyi Wasn't this incident in question a few years ago centering around a reboot? Either way its sad for friendships of four decades to possibly come to an end.
Spilling the tea is also creating drama. Not on the same level, but it does pour salt on an open wound. Friends with someone for 40 years and they do you dirty once, and you throw away everything? If that is the case, then they were never really friends. We know it's Lisa. It's a shame they couldn't work that out.
I agree that this drama we don't need. Mindy should have kept this to herself. That being said, I must point out that if after 40 yrs of friendship a friend decides to do another friend dirty, seems like the dirty friend threw the friendship away. 40 yrs of friendship should have prevented the "dirt" from happening at all.
At best Mindy was being more diplomatic about this situation by not revealing the identity of the former cast member who was in it for herself above everyone else. At worst, some people will accuse Mindy of being petty, but I think the reality is - as there is a growing interest to do reboots of series from a few decades ago, this question would have come up time after time. So, Mindy decided to address and confront the issue the best way possible. Mindy did take much more of the high road by discussing it in this manner and not revealing the former FOL cast member. But in all honesty, I think that Mindy had every right to be pissed off about this situation, and expressing it the way that she did, because it shows that Lisa Welchel is extremely selfish and did this behind the backs of the others. Sometimes with long term friendships, one time is all it takes for someone to screw you over and do you dirty just once, and then it's over. How many times would you let a "friend" pull this kind of crap on you before you would cut ties with someone like that? And then have to do a reality check and see the actions of a person like Lisa for what it really is? With friends like Lisa Welchel, who needs enemies? The reality of the situation is that Lisa Welchel has tried to portray herself as a good Christian, but her actions are not very Christian-like at all, which is the unfortunate reality of many people who preach one thing and practice something entirely different.
@@IOeste80 they talked to some original cast members and then went in a completely different direction after Norman Lear died. Not only that, they still screwed over Eric Monte, the co-creator of the show.

Yeah -- I was strongly convinced for a while that it was Kim who was the problem because at the beginning of the week she even still had Lisa's Instagram in her following but didn't have Kim's (though she had a couple or so pics of Kim in her gallery); then, when checking back two days later, Kim was in there. With the video above, I'm now agreeing that it (unfortunately) had to be Lisa, which is disappointing because as a self-purportedly devout Christian woman it was, at the very least, a betrayal of friendship to have secret negotiations for her own exclusive spinoff while there were still in-progress group talks about group-continuation series. Very disappointed in Lisa....

All you ya-hoos ragging on Lisa Welchel because she's a devout Christian. Kim works...Lisa works...Nancy left the business. Who would have profited mire from the reboot? The one stirring up crap...because now she's in demand.
Sorry, Mindy, it seems as if you are the only one who cannot seem to "get past it". Kim and Nancy have not even talked about what Lisa did, and I dare say they probably have already let it go. After all, they are still actively working while your role in "Palm Royale" is designated as "minor recurring". Meanwhile, Lisa has chosen a life of semi-retirement but still promotes FOL in advertisements, interviews and variety show appearances. Mindy seems to be the only one bitter about this. Kim has enough on her plate, I think she is doing two projects simultaneously, and Nancy has made it clear that her FOL days are behind her. She did not even appear in the reunion movie and has missed at least half of the reunion interviews. My wager is that Mindy is the only one who really NEEDED this reboot job.
Oh, stop. A reboot would be the biggest thing in any of their careers for decades. Yes, some of them work more than others. None of them have achieved the level of success they achieved with Facts of Life, though. Kim Fields got close with Living Single, but it’s proven not to have anywhere near the nostalgic following of Facts of Life. They all wanted this, except perhaps Nancy McKeon who seems to not be interested in acting and has only made cameo appearances for a while now.
It all sounds like sour grapes to me. Why drag this up years later? I watched Lisa on Survivor and she was kind, genuine... and as other have said, Lisa is also working..she has done some Hallmark movies in the past and her current show. Lisa did a movie with Kim Fields. Lisa, Mindy and Nancy all appeared on the Drew Barrymore show not too long ago. They got along then.
I suspected that it was Blair from the start, because I recall back in the day, her causing somewhat of a divide because she wouldn’t be in certain episodes that covered topics that conflicted with her religious beliefs.
@@jojopuppyfish Yeah. That was a whole other controversy... She was "busy with kids"... Sure, Jan... Just say you didn't want to feed Lisa's ego and we'd all believe that!

I was surprised to think it would be Lisa Welchel. I was surprised any one of them would go that route. It's sad because it destroyed a long friendship.
Well, Blair was the star of the show...and who knows what really happened? Maybe the producers offered her the spin-off - and why would she turn that down?
Honestly if anyone is in the wrong it's Mindy for making all this public. So what if Lisa (or Kim or Nancy) asked for more money or wanted a spinoff. Lisa seems perfectly happy with new hubby, grandchildren, and hosting her antique show. Sounds like she knows her worth and didn't want to uproot her life unless she got paid well. Good for her. Norman Lear has long passed so it's probably best this reboot never got off the ground. Similar to other reboots I don't think it would've been nearly as successful as the original.
@@CorneredGlobe Dirty as F, regardless of the "I know what I'm worth." BS that people are so fond of saying...let's keep it real. The show is an ensemble show and they are better together than singled off. I don't wanna watch 60 a year-old Blair trying to make it in this world. I would prefer a reboot with all original members.
If Mindy's allegations are true, then it was Lisa who was in the wrong because it wasn't about getting paid more but rather she had back-channeled a separate negotiation for herself (likely looking to try the Eastland spinoff as-intended back in '88) that excluded the other girls *while* active group negotiations/talks were in-progress for the group to do a continuation series. That is a betrayal of friendship and professionally both unethical and rude. Mindy's not wrong in this context.
@@tideoftime My problem is Mindy airing these grievances so publicly in a bit of a passive aggressive way. We don't know what actually happened...it's just one side of the story. It seems like she is after the attention. These type issues should stay in house and not turned into a "Charmed" type public drama.
This was recent. Kim Fields stay in projects unbeknownst to the mainstream. She has directed plenty shows but you have to be apart of the ‘culture’ to know that. Nancy I’m sure is fine doing what she’s doing. Mindy Cohn may be more angry because this was what she needed and Lisa messed it up.

The problem with Mindy not naming who it is, is that it leads to speculating. I was convinced it was Kim Fields because Kim has made it clear in the past she's DONE with the character of Tootie. So I wouldn't be so sure about this. I think Mindy is a little pot stirer. She was very critical of one of the women on another interview.
So Mindy makes this accusation, without having the balls to name the person she's accusing, about something that allegedly happened nearly 3 years ago after the Norman Lear Live episodes of FOL and DS, causing the internet to go in on Lisa Wechel, without a shred of proof, yet she (Mindy) just recently appeared with Welchel and Nancy McKeon on the Drew Barrymore show. *IF* any one of the other ladies did what she says one of them did, why hang out with that person, then turn around and say something like this? All this shows me is that Mindy wanted attention, and she got it.
@@johnfd0210 I'm disappointed in her for behaving like a high schooler starting a rumor about a girl she's mad at. It's very immature, not to mention how hypocritical it makes her look for going on Drew's show with the woman she most likely made the accusation about.
@msjourneyfan. Probably because the Drew Barrymore show was work. They were invited by networks and all three of them were professional Kim Fields was filming her Netflix special at the time so that’s why she couldn’t be there. They’ve all could’ve had that argument and still had issues with each other, but are not going to put it in front of the camera because they’re professional. @@joshuajones7900 Nah, I'm not buying that. If Mindy is so upset by what allegedly happened, and she obviously is, she could have declined to appear on the show. If she's so professional, to put her issues with unnamed co-star aside to go on Drew's show, why couldn't she remain professional and not do what she did on this podcast? She allowed a man to call one of her sisters "a greedy bitch." No matter how you slice it, she's not looking good here. And I find it odd that Kim couldn't link up with the show for a quick hello, or even pre-record a message to all of them. Anyway, I find this whole thing disappointing 😕
Lisa Whelchel was the star of the show. A reboot should be all about her. The Facts of Life was a cool show but reboots never work. People like nostalgia, but you can't bring it back. Yet, Lisa Whelchel never aged, her singing the theme song for facts of life in her Eastland uniform, sure does give us a flashback to the 80's. Why just sit and hint though, when it's clear who she is talking about.
.....AND, if you noticed (0:30)....'Blair' is the ONLY ONE wearing a 'costume' (of the character), so she could set HERSELF up for the spinoff, on the SLY!! ...shaaady.......
Well, to be fair, she actually came out first, sang the theme song alone and then after that, the other two joined (like in the video). This was one of my favorites in the early 80s. It’s disappointing to learn she did that to the other 3 after over 40 years of friendship. And she is a HIGHLY religious person. Maybe someone should ask her, What would Jesus think of that behavior.

Lisa and Mindy were following each other until a few weeks ago. Kim and Nancy still follow Lisa and Lisa follows them. Mindy was unprofessional by opening her mouth. Why should she care, in the interview she said she booked Palm Royal so how would she do both anyway. Kim has her Netflix series, Lisa is doing collectors call, and Hallmark movies not sure what Nancy is doing. I find it hard that Lisa, Kim and Mindy would drop something that is successful for them to go back to a show that happened 40 years ago to try and recreate something and may not be picked up and may flop. To me it's a gamble. If you are working on a successful show making money loving your work and art why step back from it.
Seriously though imagine your late middle aged but not quite retired and you get Heat for not trying to redo a job you did with the same co workers 45 years ago as a teenager. I mean come on. I can see Blair wanting a show on her own. That’s all well and good. it’s her life. It’s her career. She should be able to do what she wants and get her accolades from the job she did on that show. but to not do a reboot at all because of that with the rest of them that doesn’t make any sense.

Absolutely agree. I was really turned off by her during the promo for that show. She is very full of herself. She would constantly name drop all the famous people she knows, and frame herself as Hollywood royalty.
I had an issue of MAD Magazine as a kid that spoofed Facts of Life. It had Natalie wearing a Notre Dame t-shirt with the "ND" logo but instead of Notre Dame it said "No Diet" LOL.
Lisa Welchel's religious beliefs prompted her to opt out of an entire episode of Facts back in the day. Maybe there was something in the reboot idea that she couldn't reconcile with faith-wise.
I feel it just might be Kim. She was the only one who wasn't at Drew Barrymore's birthday show. Lisa has been working for a while now. Mindy has old pics on Instagram so it could be anyone. There's been a lot of reunions over the years of all three, one of the most recent on the Drew Barrymore show but no Kim fields so I don't know about that 🤔
Mindy Cohn sent me an autographed photo to me, signed to me and a hand written letter as well with it, because I asked her why it was just the four girls now and she answered my question. It was when the character Jo was introduced. I lost the photo and letter when I moved. This was in 1979 when I lived in South Carolina at the time. She will always be my favorite with Nancy McKeon right behind her.
If I'm not mistaken, didn't FOL end with Blair being the owner and headmistress of Eastland? If so, she could easily do the reboot, with several new girls and a cameo appearance, here and there, with the other OG's. Plus Andy and George could make an appearance.
if i recall from my teen years, on the last episode , and apart from blair the rest of the girls were about to go their separate ways to make thier fortunes and the Eastland school for girls was about to go under from funding cut from lack of new students but at the last hour blair came up with funding from her families fortune, and as there was no head mistress or house mother since the school was broke at that point, she took up the reigns and even opened up to accept boys at the school too. it gave the appearance of a whole new fresh start with a group of new kids and all. but again that was the last show so that story line began and ended in one episode...
I grew up watching this show, my favorite characters on that show were Blair and Joe. Tootie and Natalie were annoying. It doesn't matter if Blair wanted to try for her own show or demanded more money. Do you honestly think there would be a show without her? I was surprised I thought it was Tootie! I saw the other reunions and let's be honest it wasn't that good.
But Lisa Whelchel, Nancy McKeon, and Mindy Cohn all appeared on Drew Barrymore show without Kim Fields several months ago, so your theory of using Cohn's social media as a meter to determine who it may be is wrong.
If you saw the interview Mindy motioned Lisa to sit next to Drew then had Nancy sit between her and Lisa. Kim Fields was busy working on her Netflix sitcom.
Kim fields said in 2022 that she was not down with reboots for Facts of life and living single, so i think Mindy is fabricating some stuff. Maybe they did have meetings, but that doesn’t mean they had anything solid.
I thought there was a similar situation years and years ago, think after they had filmed a reunion special show. But, I thought I remembered Welchel always renegotiating her contract for the show to make more money then everyone else since she thought she was the main star, apparently.

I adored this show. It gave some sort of balance to a VERY tumultuous decade. However - and I'm not in anyway trying to disrespect the fabulous Cloris Leachman - but Charlotte Rae was the heart and soul of the show, and it should have ended when Edna was married off.
They were friends all the way back in the 1950s, so that's why it felt like a passing of the torch rather than arbitrarily shoehorning in some rando.
Incredibly sad. I loved the show but I wish them all the best.
A few months ago Mindy gave an interview on Behind the Velvet Rope and talked about a Golden Girls reboot with the cast but said she didn't think one of the women had the chops for it, and it got a lot views/everyone was stunned she would shade a cast member. She was totally talking about Lisa!
Yup you are correct
Lisa is NOT the problem Mindy is, she's CHOOSING to throw Lisa under the bus, Lisa has had a successful career and life away from Hollywood
The drama and shade from Mindy is unnecessary and petty. I'll remember the show and the characters for the joy they brought me when I watched it.
@@tideoftime were only hearing one side of the story which is Mindy's
@@tideoftime except Lisa not only has her show on MeTv (Collector's Call), but she's extremely religious, and seems to "walk the talk"

Lisa, Nancy, and Mindy appeared together on the Drew Barrymore show earlier this year for Drew's birthday.

@@cedarledgepublishingthey didn't want two blondes who were both Mouseketeers.
After that “Good Times” that dropped it safe to say reboots need to stop.

Similar to other reboots I don't think it would've been nearly as successful as the original.

if i recall from my teen years, on the last episode , and apart from blair the rest of the girls were about to go their separate ways to make thier fortunes and the Eastland school for girls was about to go under from funding cut from lack of new students but at the last hour blair came up with funding from her families fortune, and as there was no head mistress or house mother since the school was broke at that point, she took up the reigns and even opened up to accept boys at the school too. it gave the appearance of a whole new fresh start with a group of new kids and all. but again that was the last show so that story line began and ended in one episode...
My girlfriend and I watch Collectors Call every week. It's a great show. "Blair" is an an awesome host.
and now, Mindy's talking about a "Golden Girls"... with ALL four of them... including Lisa.... look at the video bellow

You take the good you take the bad....
What...5 months ago all of them but Tootie was on Drew Barrymoore's show...so the mystery deepens.
Kim fields said in 2022 that she was not down with reboots for Facts of life and living single, so i think Mindy is fabricating some stuff. Maybe they did have meetings, but that doesn’t mean they had anything solid.
Damn! I was hoping the Facts Of Life girls would be the new Golden Girls! Oh well. Either way…Blair or not…It’s a crappy thing to do.
I thought there was a similar situation years and years ago, think after they had filmed a reunion special show. But, I thought I remembered Welchel always renegotiating her contract for the show to make more money then everyone else since she thought she was the main star, apparently.
It was Blair. Fans combed through Mindy’s account and it was Blair.
Sidebar: Isn't that the Snapple Lady with Jason? Also, where can I watch The Jason Show?
