I just saw him I'm concert tonight ("the Never Say Never Tour"). Even with debilitating health issues, Frampton brings it. "Black Hole Sun" and his cover of "Georgia" were two of my favorite parts.
I never get tired of watching this. Beast mode is right. The sound is so rich and the technical quality is off the charts. Why he isn’t in the Rolling Stones 100 Best list is criminal!
@@keithmarshall4707a lot of quality players were left off that list, Frampton is definitely one of them. Which is a shame, because inclusion might have gotten some younger people to check him out and learn exactly how legit he is.
I've seen Frampton probably 5 times in concert... he's a guy who feeds off the crowd's energy and gives it right back. He just loves what he's doing, period.
@@EricssonB yeah true. he's a known god but i would agree even at that status he is underrated. the fluidity of his playing leads me to believe he invented music itself
Frampton knows Chris’ voice is unique, then his performance focused on what he is amazing: his guitar. As someone said on this comment section, Frampton performed it on beast mode. Terrific. Period.
I love how this version of Black Hole Sun has such a cool inversion: guitar as lead, with a vocal 'solo' mid way through. Peter Frampton is an original, and he's definitely still got it.
God forgive me, I talked shit on Frampton a while back because of his age. I take it back. With this cover, he redefines "Black Hole Sun" and honors Chris Cornell (who did a few covers himself). Masterful.
This is easily one of the richest sounding recordings ever and the technical quality is off the charts. Why he is not in Rolling Stones 100 Best is criminal! We love you Peter!
Roy Roach I totally agree with you, and he actually missed a couple notes! You can see it on his face but it didn’t matter because it was still great. That’s what happens when you’re a level 10,000 guitar wizard
You just sit and wait the whole song for him to sing the chorus with the talk-box, and BAM, he finally does and it hits you like a punch to the face... and you say "thank you, Peter, for punching me. Thank you so very much."
I've watched many of the Cornell tributes. This is the only one that feels like a celebration. And I agree, Frampton has always been an underrated guitar player.
He always was, it's just when he played goodie two shoes Billy Sheers in the Sgt. Peppers movie, it killed his music career, and Aerosmith being the bad guys got a career boost.
Gotta say, I think Blackhole Sun has ascended to the realm of the standard: A song that is such a masterpiece that multiple artists in multiple genres of music can play and both do it proper justice and make it their own. At once both instantly recognizable and infinitely variable. I honestly think it's up there with Stardust Memories.
Phenomenal. I saw this cat about 15 years ago at the Hollywood Bowl. John Waite opened, then came Frampton, then Journey. It was a great show. However, I saw Pete within this last year at the Forum (Los Angeles) and it fricking blew my mind. I had NO idea this cat was such a great guitarist. His entire band completely rocked. And I've been listening to him since the 70's.
Frampton has a way with the guitar sets him apart from all of his contemporaries, so lyrical. Being a singer songwriter helps your soloing big time. If you don't believe me just ask Eric Clapton, David Gilmour or Rick Medlocke, hehe.
Peter @ 4:46 ...ENGAGE GOD MODE !!!! ....SOOOOO Awesome To watch him SHRED... AND with a HUGE smile !!!!!.. THIS is what makes him GREAT...I CANNOT love this Enough.... There are VERY FEW like him that truly have the EMOTION that Peter has ..I feel like he is the LAST of the GREAT players from the old days that can STILL KICK ASS.. I can Only PRAY that he can for a few years more ...
Frampton is one of the most under rated musicians alive today. The man is humble (Humble Pie - no pun intended), gracious, talented, smart & a really good friend. Rock on Peter.....
What better person to cover "Black Hole Sun" then Peter Frampton. RIP my brother, you gave joy to the world of music...ROCK ON....You are in good company.
Love you Peter and thank you for making my first meeting you so special in 2016 in Humboldt will never ever forget it!!!! will always be one of the best of the best!!!!! 💗💙💚💛💜💛💚💙💗
It is great to see Peter Frampton honor the great Chris Cornell with this great performance! Peter I remember Humble Pie and the Boston Tea Party 1969!
I seen Mr Frampton in 1977 , I think he sounds way better now , he is really enjoying black hole sun great version Chris is smiling down from heaven on this track !!!!!
He did this live for his encore in Columbus, OH a few years back. Was one of the best nights of my life to see a living legend. May you rock on forever.
my doctor says i should avoid every excitement because of my weak health. in comes peter frampton blowing my mind out of the skull and learns my heart to beat in bars of 23/11th. thank you so much, dear sir...
Peter is one of the best musicians around. He's very humble & polite. Never met a nicer person. I saw him when Humble Pie started outs at the Fillmore East in the early 70's and followed his career in to Frampton's Camel and on his own. Even attended the Frampton Comes Alive shows. I'm a big fan of Soungarden also so when I saw this video, I thought it was brilliant. Keep on rockin', Peter.
It really doesnt matter, we are judging musical quality, not person quality; in fact the music motto "never meet your music idol" is quite true; a LOT of musicians are crappy persons, but when it comes to their music they rock
This is spell-binding! Artists will forever continue to do covers, but never have I seen or heard anyone own up to the task like Frampton does here. I don't know if I'll ever enjoy the original version again, the way I did before I heard this. Peter Frampton is Rock Royalty!
i got to see my man in 1977 i think was the year , at the j.f.k.. in philly , j. giels band , dicky betts and great southern and the allmighty lynyrd skynyrd , what a fantastic show , god bless everyone.
Frampton played in San Antonio on Sunday, he has got to be the happiest guitar player in history, what a great guy, and great guitarist, played his heart out for us. I will never miss a concert of his again!! :)
Peter Frampton is in BEAST MODE on this song. You can feel the emotion, it sounds like a tribute to Chris but this was recorded years before.
Funny that you mention that. I'm sure that Chris Cornell appreciated the tribute. If you ever heard limo wreck. Chris could peer into the future.
I just saw him I'm concert tonight ("the Never Say Never Tour"). Even with debilitating health issues, Frampton brings it. "Black Hole Sun" and his cover of "Georgia" were two of my favorite parts.

The thing I like most about Peter Frampton... Look at how much goddamn fun he's having!
MisterMoray this comment is old but YES I agree. I love him and Eddie Van Halen for the same reason. Saw Frampton in concert last week
I've seen Frampton probably 5 times in concert... he's a guy who feeds off the crowd's energy and gives it right back. He just loves what he's doing, period.
MisterMoray Dan Wojciechowski does not seem to be having fun at all 😂😂
I know exactly what are you saying PF in the 70s-80s was bored AF...
Lol that’d be the drugs
When Peter Frampton covers your song, you know you did something right.
R.I.P. Chris Cornell. 1964 - 2017
"Steal the warm wind, tired friend."
:'(
Evelynn WoW made my day friend
Evelynn no one sings like him anymore
Gone way too soon 😥
No one sings like Chris anymore... So, it must be Frampton who plays. Shivers all over the song.
He's one under-rated master of the guitar.
Yes, as many have said "meh" about Frampton.
@@EricssonB yeah true. he's a known god but i would agree even at that status he is underrated. the fluidity of his playing leads me to believe he invented music itself
Tribute to chris.
No no peter is not underated he is among the best ever he's only did not specialized on blues seems blues is the edge of guitarists
Who says so

Hated the first minute of it and then I got it. Frampton, you magnificent bastard. Really like this version.
First minute was unpleasant; agreed. The talk box was fantastic; wonderful cover. Great innovation to this classic.
It took him a minute to get it worked out, yeah :)
Great call it's getting good now
Yep
That intro transported me instantly
This is why Peter Frampton it´s much more that most people think he is. So underrated, like Robin Trower or Rory Gallagher
The only one I've seen live is Robin Trower. Fantastic artists all!
Agreed! Robin Trower is my #3. Way underrated. #1 Jeff Beck, #2 J Hendrix, #3 Trower, #4 Jimmy Page, #5 Duane Allman
God forgive me, I talked shit on Frampton a while back because of his age. I take it back. With this cover, he redefines "Black Hole Sun" and honors Chris Cornell (who did a few covers himself). Masterful.
WHAT ? How the hell is he making those sounds ? Why haven't I seen this man before ? So many questions. I am blown away
This cover gains new meaning because no one sings like Chris anymore.
Bro...that's a nail buried deep in a "rock"😢
someone had to have missed the like button ,because Peter Frampton is a GUITAR GOD!!!
This is easily one of the richest sounding recordings ever and the technical quality is off the charts. Why he is not in Rolling Stones 100 Best is criminal! We love you Peter!
You know your band is doing sonething right when legends from various eras before you cover your songs. Hail Soundgarden
Albert M. ............or Cash covering Rusty Cage
Pretty sure his voice box put him in the zone. That shred after the vox is stellar.
Roy Roach I totally agree with you, and he actually missed a couple notes! You can see it on his face but it didn’t matter because it was still great. That’s what happens when you’re a level 10,000 guitar wizard
Intense as fuck
You get the sense that if he'd never made a dollar in music he'd be just as happy. And that's in short supply. And I admire him greatly for it.
Just saw him play this live. Still sounds spot on to this video even with his health issues. Such a legend
I saw him performing it live right before the main concert (Steve Miller Band). Totally unexpected performance and shattered my expectations.
That SMILE, that TALK BOX, that PASSION ........ they stay the same ! OLD MASTER never die !!
No talk box though. Still awesome
omg that talk box work at the end was brilliant
You just sit and wait the whole song for him to sing the chorus with the talk-box, and BAM, he finally does and it hits you like a punch to the face... and you say "thank you, Peter, for punching me. Thank you so very much."
I've watched many of the Cornell tributes. This is the only one that feels like a celebration. And I agree, Frampton has always been an underrated guitar player.
cozyslor this performance was 6 years before Chris Cornell died.
Worked in Hollywood when Frampton comes alive was released, never got to see Chris, but this was an awesome tribute

That's one of the greatest Les Paul tones I've ever heard...
Had no idea Peter was this good. Brilliant.
Check out frampton comes alive

What???!!!!
Saw him in concert in ‘19. Outstanding, magical.
They don't make guitar players like him anymore...awesome..

Best use of the talkbox EVER!
Damn, that "and wash away the rain" at 4:15 always manages to send chills down my spine, so badass!

You know what's cool? Peter Frampton covering Soundgarden's "Blackhole Sun" on #GCSessions back in 2011. That was cool.
I saw him in Dallas in "06". Top shelf!... He played "While my guitar gently weeps" That would make Harrison cry...
Frampton has a way with the guitar sets him apart from all of his contemporaries, so lyrical. Being a singer songwriter helps your soloing big time. If you don't believe me just ask Eric Clapton, David Gilmour or Rick Medlocke, hehe.
Superbe!
You go Pete, loved it!
hehe hehe butthead, it rules, it rules!! yeah, this was cool beavis, hehe hehe
Well done you can tell Peter loves the song as much as we do
Peter always looks like he's having fun! The one thing I've always admired about him
Wow, this is every bit as eerie, menacing, expressive, and freakin' awesome as the original.
I've always admired Peter Frampton's guitar work. He really is one of the finest guitarist alive today.
There are no words. Peter Frampton is the best!
Frampton always looks like he is having the time of his life! Very inspirational!

I found this because of the comment section of the charismatic voice channel and I am very happy about it!
It's obvious that Frampton is still very passionate about his music--great performance!!

i saw frampton in 76 . and to this day , no one can beat it .
No person alive today could duplicate that performance. So intense. He's the one and only.... Thank You C. C... He was such a Blessing
Frampton rocks since the 70s. Amazing job.
A man that truly enjoys music and playing guitar. Love watching musicians that put every single emotion they have into their playing. Just awesome!
things like this makes life worth living
