    Top 10 Tips to Ride a Motorcycle in a foreign country.
    To travel in different country is a bit scary, is in it? Some people are worried even to leave their hometown. To step into the unknown place sounds like a mission impossible for many of you. Actually there is nothing to be afraid as longer you respect some simple rules.
    1. Respect the religion.
    Respect the religion of others and do not flag with yours. Your God might be the best for you, but it is not the same everywhere. Some people are very sensitive on that topic and you don’t need to provoke them even more.
    2. Try to give instead of take.
    Be patient. Some people will be very curious to see you and talk with you. They will have hundreds of questions, because they don’t see riders every day. Give them some simple gifts, tell them some stories and all the doors will be open for you. Once you step into their homes it will be like one totally different world for you. For one single night you will learn more than a year of research in internet.
    3. People are the same everywhere
    Do not pretend to be different, because you are not. You are human been with head, body, arms and legs like anyone else. Try to behave like a normal, respectful person not like a king of the world. Do not try to teach or change them. Some things cannot be changed. You are not a famous guru, you are just the guy with a motorcycle. You are guest, so be the guest you would like to meet at your home. Choose your words carefully and learn how to listen. There is a famous phrase “ Silence is gold “.
    4. Don’t argue or drink with locals.
    You can do it only if you have friends there and even then it’s a risky situation. As you probably know the alcohol could make from a normal person real devil. When you mix it with some bad words it could become a real problem.
    5. Obey the law
    If you don’t know the rules or country, please do not break it! Do not argue with Police and don’t be arrogant. Believe me they have seen many like you before and this not going to help you at all. Calm down, confess your mistakes and ask for compromise. In most of the countries around the world, Police is tolerant with motorcycle riders, just be patient and you will be fine.
    6. Always carry a paper map.
    I don’t have to explain you how useful the map is. Actually I have a video about it and you can watch it here. The map will give you the chance to talk with locals, ask for directions. The can even to suggest some nice routes for you.
    7. Water & food.
    Do not drink the water from the rivers, lakes or even pipe system, before you are sure that it’s ok to do it. Again ask the locals. This could save you a lot of problems and some serious diseases. Be careful with food as well. I know that many will love to test some local drinks or meals, but keep in mind that the taste could be totally different from what you know.
    .
    8. Petrol
    In some countries the petrol stations will be different than the one you know. Be ready to have some really low quality petrol. If your bikes require only premium, make sure that you have some octan busters or additives.
    9. Always keep cash
    Always keep cash in the local currency. Credit cards mean nothing in some countries, just useless piece of plastic. Cash could save you a lot of problems. Of course never show your money on public places. Video about the money you can watch here.
    10. Always take your rubbish with you.
    I know that it is very easy to forget that when you are not at home, but this is a home for someone and you have to respect that! It will cost you nothing, but it will be a good example for many after you. Especially if you have the chance to share this with Facebook, TH-cam or whatever social network you use.

    1. Always be 100% legal.
    2.A good insurance.
    3. Respect the speed limit / drive according to the conditions (speeding was never good adviser).
    4. Never RIDE at night!
    5. Take the BRAIN on the journey (common sense).

    All excellent advice, and you make your points well as always. Your personal story illustrates firstly how easy it is to be influenced by peer pressure and secondly, how military mindsets are programmed to work without question or even reason sometimes. I imagine that in times of war, and conflict a soldier has to be ready to kill without hesitation. What shows your mettle as a thinking intelligent man is your determination to look further than earlier conditioning, and seek better answers and see the world in an intelligent, educated way. Your advice for dealing with people from different backgrounds and beliefs in a benign and open way, and being wise enough to seek this out with an open and enquiring mind is testament to your humanity. Thank you my friend for showing a better way.

    My rule: never talk about Religion or politics concerned with the country you are traveling in. Once I rode with a good friend through Anatolia (Turkey). On a campsite we met a young local guy and my friend (a very committed Christian ) started a kind of missionary talk. The guy was very polite and let him finish. Then he gave my friend a good advice that he has no problem to listen to it but it may certainly different with other people around. The rest of the tripp my riding comrade took this advice by heart and I bet this saved us a lot of trouble. On the whole trip we met nice people, were invited for a caj at gas stations or got even offered a room for free for an overnight at a cafe and enjoyed the great hospitality of the turkish people.

    I do have a four values when I deal with people, these simple values are: Respect, Kind, Responsible and Honest. I treat people with respect and dignity and I expect the same, I try to be nice and kind to all of those who are responding same way, I am always honest with people and I am responsible for all of my actions. I will respond adequately to situation and I will use my experience and knowledge to deal with different people and different circumstances. It is rare I have to defend myself, I do that as a last resource. I am Christian Catholic and I am proud of it, yet I am not a preacher so outside of church or my house I am not talking about religion or my views on it, that is saving me a lot of troubles.
    Kind Regards

    Pavlin, I don't believe Dima exists. I think he's somebody you've made up. The nicest thing you've ever said about him is that if you get into a good argument, you can forget how long you've been in the saddle and before long, you've covered lots of miles. I think you should let Dima have a video where he tells us all of the mistakes you've made :-)

    Pavlin, how about pocket knife... could this be a problem crossing borders and with local laws? Any experience with this situation?
    Also, is it better to use tires with inner tube or tubeless? There are a lot of reviews on tires but I haven't seen anything about inner tubes and ttires that require them. Your TKC 80 is with inner tube, yes?
    Thank you Pavlin.

      Personally, I keep mine anywhere but my tank bag....maybe in your puncture repair kit bag? Then, you can say it's a 'tool' to help with the repair...from my limited experience in Western Europe, if they are going to search anywhere...it's usually the tank bag....as generally they know it's a pain to get bikes through the border at the best of times with passports etc.

    Everything is true apart from one issue. I wouldn't rather took advice about quality of water from locals. Usually thay assume that if it is ok for them, it will not make problems for foreigners. The answer in most cases will be ok, so the safest way is just to stick to bottled water.

    I am open minded because I like to travel around the world and meet people...even with an islamic cross on their hands ;-).
    I personaly know muslims because I lived in french suburbs and worked with many of them for over ten years. Like I said : people are good and bad.
    Some could think it is a provocation. That would be their statement... Although my tatoo has nothing with that.
    My cross was not tatooed to provoc but if some people take this as an offense it is bad. I won't be offended if someone show his religion on body.
    My road trip will begin in april. I would be happy to meet you crossing Germany !

    I really disagree with the first half of the video. People everywhere are different, there's some evil people out there, and a heavy dose of scepticism coupled with some defensive behavior is needed. I agree that most people just want to go about their day, but there's a certain element that you have to be careful with. It's especially true outside of the first and second world countries where there's no help coming. I'd even say that almost every adventurer/backpacker/hitchhiker has had a dangerous situation where there was some physical violence, harassment and in extreme situations a threat or action of a beating or a stabbing. There are some shady countries out there, and those countries are shady because there's a large amount of bad people out there, and a traveler, especially one on a motorcycle is a prime victim.

    • @motorcycleadventures
      @motorcycleadventures  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You believe whatever want to believe, but don't try to confuse others. In every given moment, even you can count more violence and more victims in all so call civilized countries than in any of so named third world. See the country with the biggest crime problem and you will see it.

    • @motorcycleadventures
      @motorcycleadventures  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      People are the same everywhere. There are good and bad people in each country. It is not right to judge this way.

    • @JumaiPL
      @JumaiPL 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not trying to confuse anyone. I'm trying to push back on your opinion, which I believe is partly wrong. I'm not saying you didn't have great experiences, or that I didn't have great experiences, but I'm talking about statistics. I don't know what you mean by saying
      "In every given moment, even you can count more violence and more victims in all so call civilized countries than in any of so named third world. See the country with the biggest crime problem and you will see it."
      It's the third world countries that have the biggest issues. Countries like Congo, CAR, South Africa are places where there's a real risk, on scales uncomparable to Germany or Poland where I live. You can look at murders, you can look at rapes, you can look at robberies. They have multiple times higher RATES of those crimes, and as travelers we are prime victims.
      " People are the same everywhere. There are good and bad people in each country. It is not right to judge this way."
      I really disagree. People think differently, have different values and virtues, they have different ways of thinking, they have different cultures and religious prescriptions. We can't say that there are countries where there are only bad people or only good people, but we can look at hard data and decide that some places have a lot of bad people.

    • @motorcycleadventures
      @motorcycleadventures  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aaaa, statistics...you mean the news and TV? I mean that you will see more violence and crime in the civilized countries than around the countries outside from 1st and 2nd world - as you said. I hope that it's clear now. You experience is only for you. Someone might have totally different. It's really depends from your personal believes.

    Hi Pavlin, i agree with you in almost everything you said.
    But i must disagree on one thing, it is NOT the same when you have a tattoo of a cross in a muslim country, as a muslim have the symbol of islam on his hand in a non muslim country....
    And i am telling this to the guy of the cross on the hand.
    Never ever EVER go to a muslim country with that tattoo...
    I can't tell you more about it, because TH-cam would remove my account.
    This fact alone should tell you a LOT about it.

    You were soldier, not philosopher, so why are you so surprised with this brainwash? Don't you have an impression that you saved your country against "Yugoslavian solution", that you saved many people lives? Just try to imagine army full of soldiers wondering what they are doing. Nowadays I could call it rather "rainbow army". It is very truth that everyone should respect local religion, it is very very important. There is nothing funny about religion as some people think.

      Western Europe is not in Muslim hands, who told you this? I would say that Europe let a lot of Muslims to come into their country and take the low paid jobs and paid tax until the rest of their lives. Do you think that they don't know what they are doing? Do you think that they will loose from it? If yes, my friend you are in big mistake.
