When did the new one come out?

ok, that's a cool video. thanks.
does ID stay locked even if tension on the rope is lost?
i mean GriGri unlocks itself if tension is lost... how about ID?
i got grigri, never owned or used ID before and i was wondering.

I do not think it will, but I am going to test this and get back to you. You can always tie the device off like on a bar rack to "lock" it off while not under tension. Thanks for watching!

@@bedwards330 the id and pro rig are locked if in the locked position, no matter the tension of the rope. although you can always pull the rope through the other way if you need to ascend up your rope. even in the locked position.

if i understand correctly ID autolocks and stay locked even if tension on rope is lost.
if you will do the same with grigri and you let go of the rope you will fall.

ID lets you position yourself along a length of rope and locks so you have your hands free to actually do some work while on a rope.

@@Dirtos. The Petzl instructions say you mustn’t let go of the rope. A simple knot in the rope is acceptable when you have to work hands-free.

@@stephengrimes257 The I’D and Rig are _certified_ for regular hands-free use in a professional setting. Putting a knot in the rope with a Grigri serves as a _backup;_ it’s a _workaround_ that can often jam up the device if it’s unexpectedly weighted, and which requires time to tie and untie when ascending and descending.
It _can_ do it, but it’s _far_ from it’s designed for, and sure as heck isn’t appropriate in a professional environment or emergency/rescue situation. With the I’D and rig, you can quickly ascend and descend, and still establish a workstation by just releasing the handle.
