  • In this video you car hear the REAL SOUND of a restored T-34 tank. Both inside and outside, it sounds amazing! This model became the standard Soviet medium tank, with an uninterrupted production run until the end of the war. This is a restored version of the Polish Rudy 102, which was made famous in a Polish TV series.

    It is a Polish T-34/85 (built between 1952-1956). Actually this particular tank is a mixture of two tanks. During the restoration (it took 6 months) we used T-34/85M1 hull and T-34/85M2 turret.

    • @LeningradetZ

      @@matthewpham9525 T-34/85M1 differs from the usual T-34/85 in that the radio operator was removed and his machine gun was placed under the control of the tank driver. Plus some improvements to the engine, radio and observation devices.
      T-34/85M2 was the M1 version, which added the ability to install equipment for underwater driving.

    Fun fact, the distinctive Clatter of a T-34 comes from the tracks rubbing against a specially placed bump on the lower side amour, the T-34's only had one set of track pins to save cost, so the tracks would slide towards the chassis constantly, instead of installing more track pins, this ridge was installed to constantly push the tracks back into place, this is why it constantly chatters as it's driving along.
    may have used some slightly incorrect vernacular but whatevs, basically they put a metal bump in place so the drive system could remain as simple as possible.

    • @leeharveyoslik
      @leeharveyoslik 5 ปีที่แล้ว +61

      it's not the number of track pins that matters (you can't use more or less track pins than a number of actual tracks you have) but rather the absence track pin retaining device for each individual pin.

      Only if you take the approach that sophisticated has to mean complicated. Indeed, the fact that the T34 used relatively basic (and therefore easy to produce and maintain) technology to provide such effective solutions to issues of the time makes it even more effective, and if that's how you define sophistication then...

      Here is the "thing" to keep in mind - T-34 start(been designed) as sophisticated as it gets, but it went through a process of simplification and manufacturing streamlining, so price of manufacturing one decrease, as well as time to make one, German tanks did the same to some extend, but it was never a mass production conveyor build tank as was T-34 and Shermans.

      The Soviet Red Army improved their training regimen, and utilized more advanced technology to outmatch the Germans. The Soviet Union's emergency war economy produced armaments for the army, and the United States and Great Britain also provided aid to the Soviet troops, sending food, boots, telephone wire and trucks. The United States Air Force used intelligent bombing strategies against Germany and Japan, and when combined with Britain's air power, the German Air Force was no match. Germany was forced to use its air power as defense rather than offense. Many aircraft were destroyed, and the German transport of supplies was interrupted. That's why you don't speak german.

      "On 4 October 1941, the 4th Panzer Division, part of General Heinz Guderian's Panzer Group 2 suffered a severe setback at Mtsensk, near Oryol. Hence Guderian demanded an inquiry into the realities of tank warfare on the Eastern Front, suggesting that the quickest solution was to produce a direct copy of the T-34-76 (Model 1941) (26 tonnes).
      A special Panzerkommision arrived on the Eastern Front on 20 November 1941[27] to assess the T-34.[28] The Weapons Department held that Germany would have difficulty copying the T-34 as Guderian had suggested, because of the quantity of steel alloy and diesel engines required. Hence a new German medium tank was proposed, incorporating three features of the T-34: a long overhanging gun, good off-road mobility from large tracks, and sloped glacis armour to give greater protection with a modest thickness of armour.
      Daimler-Benz and MAN were asked to develop a 30-tonne tank, the VK30.02, incorporating a new Rheinmetall turret. Hitler preferred the Daimler-Benz, but the Weapons Department preferred the MAN, which was more like earlier German tanks. Originally, the VK20, a new 20-tonne tank, had been proposed in 1938 as the next German tank, but this project was clearly inadequate now. In May 1942, MAN was contracted to produce pre-production prototypes, although the Panther tank did not enter production until 1943, and the Model D Panther with increased thickness of armour now weighed 44.8 tonnes. Their combat deployment in June 1943 for Operation Citadel was a debacle. The larger Tiger I heavy tank was also in use by this time.

    Wow, it actually sounds like regular car. Well, maybe not modern cars, but older ones, think like soviet zhiguli. Imagine hearing your regular 1980's car while walking in the forest AND BAM THERE IS A TANK

    Fun fact about this thing.
    That ratchety noise you hear is caused by the track pins only being locked on the side facing the hull, there is a piece of metal that makes the track pins go back in place.
    Yes this is how scuffed this thing is.
