- Got a request to check out Ren. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. After a couple minutes I didn't think it was for me but it grew on me fast. I think it's a very unique style and has a deep message. Listen with me while a do a brief breakdown.

31 million views says a lot of people no longer feel alone in their struggles. This song has saved and changed many lives. The biggest thing is that curiosity about who this man is... and then you look. .and listen...and feel who he is. I've been following for more than a year and a half. The main fan club grew from less than a thousand to 17 thousand people impressed with his genius, his lyricism, his incredible talent and the depth of his empathy. He tells stories and builds bridges between peopke on topics that peopke are afraid to talk about.

In recent years I have become a little lost on a path like Ren's and I am starting to regain the gift of the gab.
Nothing else is like another,,,, that is the only one like that. He is a bard in THE TALES OF JENNY AND SCREECH (wtfiv) full 13min version is shakespearian.
On first exposure to this particular piece, many think, "Oh he's good at his little niche - quirky, strange, different, unique ... good for him, hope he gets better." Unaware that they have actually fallen into the deadly spider's web. Or maybe The Twilight Zone. They watch The Big Push "busking" on the street with Ren doing Bob Marley, the Sweet Little Lady acoustic filmed on cramped English streets with lots of vamp... on and on through broad ranges of genres. Then they stumble on Ren's skillful hard rap, where they can't keep up with the intricate lyrics, spit with a harsh Welsh dialect that delights and antagonizes the rabid fan. The Hunger, Murderer, Losing It, all and more ... leave one in pleasurable exhaustion. Then he unexpectedly becomes vulnerable in his eclectic cover of tunes from the artist Fred Again, filmed in his Calgary apartment, enveloped by eerie, directional, competing red and blue lights. This unique human refines lyrics from the originals and converts the inspiring words into a unified, soulful lament. It just doesn't stop. The various types of music he can do really well is part of why he blew up. He had the #1 album in the UK last year and he does not tour, do concerts or perform on TV shows. His illness has limited him, but yet, also propelled him into creative compulsion to express and spread his artistic, savant talent. Oh, you have to check out The Tale of Jenny and Screech, if you like bard, Shakespearean musical tales with heart-pounding gut punches, or the Money Game Series if you dare enter into the breach of tune warfare, examining societal misfires. His collaborations with Chinchilla, Sam Tompkins, Eden, Prof and others excel at obnoxiously rubbing your nose in things you did not know you like.
He is doing a concert a week Saturday, at Secret Garden Party. I'm gonna be there and I'm really looking forward to it.
He hardly has a "harsh Welsh dialect" lol. He doesn't sound Welsh at all, tbh. He has a very English accent. Generic Southern English, with some London and Mancunian inflections.
I'm guessing it's because, although he grew up in N. Wales, his parents are English, most of his friends have been English and he's lived in England for his entire adult life, bar the last 18 months in Canada. Plus large parts of coastal N. Wales have accents that sound pretty English, compared to the rest of Wales. :)
@@Codex7777 There's still an element of North Welsh accent there. I was born about 90 miles away, and actually lived about 5 miles away from where he's from for a couple of years so I'm used to the accent. You can still detect it, although as you say there is a fair bit of Brighton accent there as well. It's an interesting mix.
I wouldn't call Anglesey accent harsh myself, but maybe that's because I'm so used to it. There's a little hint of Scouse in the Anglesey accent which isn't surprising because they're not that far apart.

Since it seems like this may have been one of your earliest "reaction" style video, I don't know how you schedule anything yet with your channel, but I HIGHLY recommend bumping this amazing kid up to the front of the line, and show us your journey down the hold as quickly as possible, pretty positive we would all love it and show you the love in return.
Side note for you, I'm not sure if you can see this on your side of things or not, but I am commenting here on a channel I don't usually watch things on, so if you see that I just wanted you to know I comment on a computer account because of real keyboard, but watch on firestick thingy that is under my wife's account, so I try not to do specific things on hers, however I have gotten her to join the Renegades and now she's rocking Ren every time she is on the road. Speaking of that, you are going to be introduced to a few very "theatrical" type "songs" that are definitely not something you put on your radio in the car, but he has a lot of banging good radio type songs as well, though sometimes it is still better to be able to watch the video (he's amazing with the way he creates "lyric" videos as well of the one-take theatrical ones).

Subbed in hopes of following you down the Ren rabbit hole. It’s a journey I have enjoyed going on with many reactors.
He spans genres and even mashes them together in unique and beautiful ways.
He’s a self-taught multi-instrumentalist, who writes, performs, produces, and engineers almost all of his music. Many of his videos, like Hi Ren, are shot live and in a single take.
He is independent, without the studio backing, using friends to make his own videos. He release an album in 2023, which rose to number 1 on the UK charts, thanks to his devoted fans (Renegades), like myself.
I suggest starting with on of The Big Push’s busking videos, such as I Shot The Sheriff. Then bounce around songs like Chalk Outlines (live), Fred Again mash up, Illest of Our Time, Bittersweet Symphony (Verve retake), Murderer (official video AND live performance), and on and on. Huge catalog of songs. Oh, and definitely check out the Money Game trilogy and the Tales of Jenny & Screech + Violet (all 3 in one sitting is HIGHLY recommended)

He was bitten by a tick and had lymes disease but got misdiagnosed for years and given all the wrong medication which fucked with his body and mind even more. He's recently been having treatment in Canada and whilst inbetween being attached to a drip, he still continued to make amazing music.

This is basically a common reaction to people’s first time watching hi ren. Kinda like WTF?
Then you go down the rabbit hole and see how versatile he is while still maintaining the dramatic elements and the connection to people ‘s struggles.

Sorry but Ren has a huge TH-cam following of 99% really passionate and supportive awesome folks and me (yes I make up all the 1% lol). I'll think you'll find all your Ren reactions will get "shocking" viewer counts and comments as all us renegades want to see reactors spread Ren as far and wide as possible as well as to see your actual reaction to his music.
If you aren't a "RAP" fan like i'm not then Ren is certainly the Rap Musician you are looking for cos I don't like Rap music either but haven't heard a rap song by Ren that I didn't like if not love in most cases. Ren draws his Hiphop inspiration from early to mid 90's hiphop culture and music, and has an extremely wide knowledge of that era. so I don't think you'll ever be disappointed in any track where Ren raps.
But Ren is a genre bender from street performance to classic blues, rap, metal and his own defined genre of "Bardcore" and has a definite reggae twist to a lot of his songs, he also often produces "acoustic" versions of his own songs that are often (IMO) better than the studio/video versions.
There maybe a lot of calls for you to react to the "Tales" trilogy, the "Money Game" Trilogy, and I wouldn't say STAY AWAY FROM THEM, but I would say, if you aren't confident of understanding his British accent then possibly watch a few of his other videos first before those so you can get to understand his dialect, nuance and some British slang terms....
I hope you continue down the Ren rabbit hole its a deep and dark place but there are carrots down there and you will find some real diamonds along the way....

This is great advice. I’d also like to add that you will inevitably get some gate keep-y comments from some Ren fans that claim you’re doing something wrong (pausing too much, not pausing at all, laughing wrong, missing a lyric, etc.) ignore them, like you this comment said, 99% of us just want to experience the introduction to Rens music again and there’s no wrong way to receive it!
It is an absolute privilege to be alive to witness REN’s musical genius! He will absolutely take you on a journey if you stick with him. You definitely have to be musically diverse to actually appreciate it. I hope I see more reactions from you on REN.

I've got to say, that's exactly what it was too. At first I was so skeptical because it was such an odd beginning. As the song went on, I really got sucked in! And the end just clubbed me upside the head.

This is art of transcendent beauty and an *important* song.
Artists often struggle with imposter syndrome. There’s a movie starring Olivia Munn called “Violet” that rings of this and was a transformative experience for me-much the same as this song resonates.
As a person who’s never been able to escape negative self-talk and imposter syndrome, *realizing* that I can exert the strength that destructive voice questions-strength that already resides within me-was sooo important.
It takes time to push past the negativity-to make your own voice stronger, but if anyone out there is struggling with this, please please please *know* that you can do it.
*Know* that I believe in you… but you don’t need me to-just like you don’t need the shroud of doubt that feels first of protection and then as a prison.
You are *stronger* than that voice.
You are stronger than you can *possibly* know…

Ren's library is deep and spans far too many genre's to put him in a single category. You won't regret exploring his catalogue.
Ren tells stories in his music. Videos like 'Hi Ren' are obvious stories. Most everything else is pure rap and regular songs/covers. As an accompinament to 'Hi Ren' you should check out 'Sick Boi' next. The latter is pure hard driving rap and a phenomenal song. Ren lived in extreme pain for many years of his life. He describes that pain in 'Seven Sins' which is also phenomenal rap. Ren's rap songs are not your traditional contemporary rap beat or music. There are a few exceptions such as 'Halftime (Nas Retake)' but for the most part it is very unique driving beats.
He is a rapper and a Bard. He's Bardcore. He is a Lyricist. He also produces most of his own stuff.

Ren went years misdiagnosed with bi polar chronic fatigue syndrome they had him on meds that caused him to have Psychosis he had a recording deal with Sony why working on his album he got sick and couldn't finish it so they parted ways he move back to Wales he would become bedridden for up 23 hours a day this went out for years before he got the right diagnosis he Lyme disease he went so long misdiagnosed that he has Brain damage Organ damage Joint damage he also has Mast cell activation syndrome he can only eat like few things because his body has allergic reaction to just about everything he eats he has had 2 stem cell transplants done he been in Canada for 2 years getting treatment he had to have IV 5 days a week they put this thing on his head that help open path ways in his brain he take hand full meds 2 times a day he has ADHD too he play guitar bass drum piano produces his own music mixes his own beats beatboxes sings and can rap he can do any Gener of music and yes he music genius
Ja need to give him time.. to go full range. His top level productions are epic but often heavy. His busking is Glorious, Seriously... any time you spend on Ren is worth it. He goes from the heavy we do not want to face to the light and bright love of life and living. Back on 74. The lyrics make pretty clear and Ren himself has said, that it's not specifically about chronic illness or mental illness. It's about the human condition generally. Those things are referenced as he's telling it from his perspective and those things have dominated his life, alongside music. Lots of other things are referenced too, music and tge creative process are referenced most of all but ,interestingly, most peple don't tend to think it's about that. :)
It's about the human condition generally and also about accepting that darkness is just part of life, part of existence, part of us. It's not something that can be banished and it's a frustrating, stress inducing, waste of time to attempt to do so. Once this simple, if unpalatable, truth is accepted, life becomes that little bit easier and the darkness a little easier to deal with and to mitigate, generally speaking. Besides which 'shit', internal and external helps to make us who we are and can often lead to surprisingly positive outcomes. Though this is not something you want to hear when you're in the 'shit'. :) Every cloud really does have a silver lining, whether large or small, but it can only be reached by going through the cloud. :)
Btw, this is only one small facet of Ren. He does every style and genre and does so brilliantly! :)
ren has incredible vocals, capable of multiple voices, styles and tones. He raps like a rap god, scats and beatboxes brilliantly! He plays about a dozen instruments well. Half of them RIDICULOUSLY well! All self-taught! He does his own audio engineering and production. He's a top-notch producer in fact! He directs most of his own videos and many, like 'Hi Ren', are recorded live, in a single take! In fact he's known for his live, single take videos and for his live performance skills generally. His songwriting is world-class! Especially his lyricism. He's a poet really and a bloody great poet at that! :)
Last year he made history, by becoming the first fully independent artist to achieve a number 1 UK album! Knocking Drake off the top spot, in the process! He wasn't even in the country at the time it happened. He was in Canada, in the middle of 18 months of intensive, experimental medical treatments! It also went top 10 in several other countries, topped the US hip-hop album chart and topped the iTunes worldwide chart! He remains determinedly independent. No label, no financial backing, no PR machine, no management company. Every label under the Sun has tried to sign Ren. He's turned them all down! With Ren it really is all about the music! :)
Not bad for a chronically ill, independent artist, who's been unable to tour, or to promote his work properly! :)
Just briefly, on his health, just know that Ren has suffered horrendously and although no longer bedridden, he remains chronically ill, with several chronic illnesses and a whole host of associated conditions and remains in constant pain but he's a stubborn little bugger and doesn't use it for an excuse, never gives up and has even emphasised the positives of enduring years of pain and suffering, often alongside a wicked sense of humour, which sometimes goes over people's heads. Even in a track like Hi Ren there's a lot of humour. Much of it aimed at himself. :)
Ren's a unique artist. A musical genius! A once in a generation talent! Definitely react to more Ren! You won't be disappointed. You WILL be surprised... constantly! :)
It's funny - I IMMEDIATELY knew that it was about the struggle of creativity - no schizophrenia or DID bc I have that asshole voice in my own head (I'm MOSTLY sane lol 😂). The light/dark/human bit I found liberating bc I literally needed this kid to remind me that I'm human. I once had a good friend tell me, "You know, the last perfect person died on the cross." Recognizing and REMEMBERING that I'm human? Feel like I was dropped from Mars sometimes but so glad I'm here in the same lifetime as him.

@@HZSoGoodMusic I grew up in MN and I absolutely love the lakes, and nature and the people for sure. I had always took for granted the people in this area. After I had moved to San Bernardino CA for a few years I realized just how caring and nice people in my area are. When I moved back I moved right across the river lol. So it feels the exact same as Moorhead lol. I do love the seasons change fall is my favorite but I did not miss the -20 degree f. Also the music scene around here is getting better but it is definitely lacking. ❤️
