    Thank you so much for picking my video! (I'm the first one btw 😅). Since then I have tried to reduce the amount of deception at the front court as well but I did not notice myself playing too many cross court shots from the rear court when under pressure. Thanks again! 😁

    i only can praise both of you again and again... super, amazing, fantastic,awesome video... these mistakes are GEMS. because, if we knw our mistakes and weaknesses, we will be able to recognize them and correct them by changing styles and techniques. and we surely be able to improve more and more... im an advanced badminton player and i have also participated few tournaments. according to me, still i m having some of these mistakes. especially when im under pressure on my rear backhand corner, i play lot of cross court slices.. also they looks slow and opponent can play a tight spinning net shots or make deceptions so easily. here after i ll be able to change it and follow your ideas like having morevariety on my strokes.. thank you so much..

    I'll keep in mind the obvious advantages of having a backhand grip while defending. Thanks guys for this great video.

    Hi both. I am from India and I have been playing badminton for the past 5 years but going on a professional coaching only for the past 1 and half year. My weakness which so far i have seen myself or heard from my friends/coach are below.
    1. After putting a long serve in singles and waiting in the middle, i am not able to move to front from the middle both on the forehand and backhand side if the opponent puts a drop. This is the same case even if the opponent chooses to do an attacking toss. Simply my legs freeze and I know i can move well but i am freezing and move to the shuttle late which forces me to make a short lift.
    2. A lot of times i end up in a confusion to choose what shots should i play.
    3. I need to improve my speed on court.
    4. Also my recovery seems to ne veru slow after heavy fitness exercises for eg. We do steps in the early morning and evening when i go for regular class, i feel like my calfs are paining too much including my knees when i lunge for multi shuttle sessions.
    4. What is your advice for a good recovery. Any diet suggestions please.
    5. I really need to improve on my defence as well.
    Sorry for making this long. Your inputs would mean a lot.

      Hey, I just saw your comment!
      1) I had the same problem for quite some time. What really helped me was focusing on my split step as this really initiates a quick movement and you activate your feet like this.
      2) I do not know how you play and also on which level you play, but on my level (ambitious recreational player), people tend to play way too less drops, although they often put you in a very good position, when they are played well.
      3) Similar to no.1, I had the same problem too. Jenny and Greg have great "4 corner footwork" tutorial on their channel. I watched this many times and practiced simply running around the court with the correct technique while not playing any shots. When you nail the basics of the footwork, you are immediately a lot quicker and less exhausted.
      5) Stand on the front foot as this will help getting forward quicker and really focus on using the right grip as mentioned in the video. The rest is simply practicing (as far as I know)
      Hope this helps at least a little bit!

    Grt888 Analysis.. will try to hit the shuttle at net height, not to smash everything , play more straight shots rather than cross court shots...and play matches with trying to focus on max 2 playing styles

    I know that players should use a backhand grip when defending in doubles as a backhand grip can cover more spaces on the court. Is it also the same for singles?

    • @BadmintonInsight
      @BadmintonInsight  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Singles is a little different, you want to be in a bit more of a neutral grip!

    I always thought less full strength smashes was a weakness, I feel better now

  • @Koozwad

    It sounds like a great idea to make it a point not doing any clears OR smashes(not doing both seems a bit too much) during a play session to really learn to use other shots.

    • @BadmintonInsight
      @BadmintonInsight  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Clears are ok! It all depends what position you are on the court though really!

    • @Koozwad
      @Koozwad ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BadmintonInsight Oh yeah probably should have specified that with clears I was referring to doubles. I mean unless your opponents are forward enough past midcourt, there doesn't seem much reason to clear and give away the attack.

    hello guys ,,when you travel what do you use to carry your rackets coz most airlines don't allow sports equipment to be on the plane as a hand carry...is there any hard cases for rackets so it won't be damaged...

    I think lifting a lot on purpose can be an excellent strategy to exhaust your opponents, as used by Chia/Soh against Setia/Ahsan in BWF World Championship 2022 Men’s Double’s Final.

    • @BadmintonInsight
      @BadmintonInsight  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Definitely! They did it really well - but watch how their lifts were always right to the back and often flat to make Ahsan and Setiawan move a lot!

    • @streetninja23
      @streetninja23 ปีที่แล้ว

      Consistent long lifts don't come easy.
      And both the partners need to be quick on feet to cover the drops and also defend smashes.

    After playing 5+ years of badminton, my new coach told me that my game would improve if I would play more slow shots in the middle of the court when I am in trouble. Like dropshots or low push shots. Those shots are not that difficult to play, add a lot of variety, save energy and confuses opponents, especially in doubles. Because my smash is quite strong he also told me, just like you said in your vid, to try to force the opponent to play shots that allow me to smash. Playing more drops and building up for smashes improved my game drastically. 5 years wasted with trying to end each rally as quickly as possible 😂

    You said that we could try hitting a slow midcourt return.
    I do feel many a times as an amateur, even if we can send a slow shot to midcourt, we are not able to, due to the fear of counter return from net. Guess thats also due to the fact that us amateurs miss hitting it at appropriate height and rather take it from the low, which sends the shuttle high enuf to warrant an apt return.
    Timing and swiftness really needs to be worked on by us amateurs.

    @7:15, Ginting smashes 3 out of 11 overheads, Lee Zii Jia smashes 4 out of 11 overheads, and if you saw Lin Dan 2008 Olympics, 6 out of 11 overheads were smashes and he smashed the most out of any pro player I've seen. You're also talking about a "You lift, you lose" type of player when looking at 2008 Olympics Lin Dan. That would be a great example to throw in there if Lee Zii Jia and Anthony Ginting's variation isnt enough.

    Late to the party here, at 2:31 to be fair on Dau, his opponent played a shot that tempted Dau's partner to go for the bird but she did not get there. That put her in "no man's land" so to speak. Trouble is, it also blocked any cross court reply that Dau could have played. He could have hit a nice centre drive but her head was in the way. Partner should have focussed more on moving forwards and covering cross-court instead of being tempted to play a shot behind her on her backhand. In mixed, the lady should be always trying to position herself diagonally opposite the opposing guy not straight on to him. Try it.
