Thanks for your views. As a former road/motocross/desert racer and road race instructor I so much appreciate this bike. I purchased mine in September 2022 and will be writing an owner's review of my experience and impressions for Web Bike World. My editor gets bothered by some of the titles I use for my reviews. I'm hoping he approves "The Best Motorcycle for Full-Figured Senior Citizens" so cross your fingers for me. 😄 It really is just the right bike for me.
Tried one, loved it but it’s too expensive and too thirsty, so I tried the V2S. It’s lower, lighter, cheaper and handles just as well if not better, so I ordered one to replace a GSA. You do not need 170hp for the road and even though it’s ‘only’ got 113hp, with the flat torque curve the V2S is plenty fast enough for 95% of us.
Went for a test on a v2s yesterday after reading your comment, other vlogger Mancave moto likes it too. Not for me though too cramped, lots of noise off the screen and it felt quite breathless down low
You know what, last week my bike was in for a service and I got to ride a loaner bike that had normal Cruise control. Before that day I would've said that you do not need cruise control, but after using it on the loaner bike through a lot of road works for 10+ miles that had speed cameras everywhere, it was a revelation. It is definitely needed for motorway work, and wouldn't be without it for touring now.
I think this is one of the best demos of the radar that I've seen. Well done, Richy. This is my unrealistic dream bike. I've only been riding 6 months, so I have plenty of time to save up and enjoy my current ride in the meantime.
I’m a few weeks into ownership of mine, took a massive leap of faith let alone investment in my first bike in 15 years but I absolutely love it, need to get some more miles in to bring myself up to it’s mighty capabilities which I’m looking forward to doing once it’s had it’s running in service on Tuesday. If you can stomach the price it’ll blow your mind, I literally bought mine off TH-cam reviews, it’s looks and the fact it’s a Ducati!
I was in the UK back in 1979 and traveled from London to York, to Billingham/Newcastle to Edinburgh. It looks more like the US than it did then. Such a beautiful country. I remember seeing the contrast from huts with thatched roofs to towering apartment buildings and council houses. The countryside looks a lot modern now.
Cracking review, I love mine. The only negatives are its thirsty compared to the rivals (can't say I care about that), oh and its the most expensive. Everything else is as per what Richy says in the review, bang on.
New price is quite steep, but 2 years on & a low mileage 22 model is more afforable, still have 2 years warranty left and is an absolute pleasure to ride, it morphs into a very capable comfy superbike when you are in the mood & the conditions suit 🤣
Thats it! I have been looking at one of these for a few months now. Was waiting on your review. Always trust your reviews and you have made my mind up to go test ride one of these beauties. 4 year warranty on these also. There aint no pockets in shrouds Live your dreams. *UPDATE* Deposit paid, just got to wait 3 months for delivery.. 😁
Had mine for just over a year now…love it….bonkers fast when you want….comfy….handles like a sports bike….very stable…only downside is she likes to drink otherwise just about perfect
1:15 that “flaps open” is the V4 going in & out of cylinder deactivation mode, once the clutch is letting out & gear engages. Once at temp around 160F +, 2 rear cylinders shut off at light to cool bike & rider. You’re hearing 2 cylinders back to 4
Your review has really sold it for me, wanting another adv tourer, for comfort etc. I've been looking at all sorts, but the gravitational pull to the multi is strong, very very strong. Thanks for awesome vids.
So good mate- you can really, really tell when you are digging a bike; and when you are not.. its all in your voce brother. LOVED my 2010 Multi and I can only imagine now 12 yrs on, what they have made this bike into..
Agree it’s an epic Machine , had so much fun on mine in northern Spain in June scraping the pegs and popping wheelies everywhere! Fuel range is the only bummer . Ps the flaps is cylinder deactivation to reduce temps on your legs , the wings do nothing aerodynamically and the hill hold works with front & rear brake and only stays on for 10 secs , I particularly like how you can lower the rear suspension when coming to halt to make flat footing it even easier . Best bike I’ve ever had .
Hi Mark, I panicked when I read your comment that the hill hold (called Vehicle Hold Control) only lasts for 10 seconds! I use that feature all of the time and worried that on a steep hill here in San Francisco I'd find myself suddenly going backward or forwards. I checked my owner's manual and on page 310 under VHC it states that the rear brake remains active for 180 seconds, NOT 10. And when the VHC begins to release it indicates on the dash it is disengaging by flashing and GRADUALLY releases the brake. WHEW, glad I checked my manual. "The system can be activated at all ABS levels (including ABS OFF) and its activation is indicated by the warning light (Fig 301) turning on. The same warning light will start blinking when the system is about to release the rear brake pressure and thus to stop keeping the vehicle at standstill: pressure will be decreased gradually."
years ago i took up riding. My first bike: the S1000XR, very comparable to this 'thing'. I have 54000 kms on it now. So i basically learned to ride with a quickshifter this good. Difficult to ride other bikes with lesser quickshifters!!
Great review. Some fantastic gadgets with the blind spot sensors . Stunning looking bike to but I would thing the price would put 95% of people off . Maybe a secondhand one in a couple of years . Great review Richy
A pleasure to watch this, I can tell you love it, great bike and tech, will always be too tall for my 5'3 frame, and priced out my play zone... However, love the blindspot tech, heated seat, your camera looking at your good self has amazing quality... Er and what good would be loosing your keys and not being able to fill up... Amazing big girl/boy bike... Well done Richy.. Be safe.. Oh and I'd love to see you have another daft tour with teapot and the gang on a daft bike... 🏍️💯👌 Love this bike
I have a 2020 950s Multistrada, changed the fuel filler for a keyless version that Ducati sell. Looks the same style as the V4s so should be able to change that if you wanted 👍👍
I haven't even rode it.. But what an amazing bike with amazing technology on it.. Absolutely epic.. Great review highly doubt there's any better 1 out there than this.
If money wasn't an issue I think your review would have sold this bike better than any salesman, my ATAS ES plus was on the limit of what I would pay for a new beasty. Any plans to give the Desert X a go looks another iconic machine, Ducati seem to have really upped their game. Great review as always thanks Richy
Brave man trusting the cruise radar... I know my car has collision detection and there's been a few times when the car itself has slammed on the brakes with nothing around... let's hope the bikes are a little better,
@@RichyVida it did especially with it full of kids in the car moaning about why did I just do that and people nearly rear ending me 🤦🏻♂️ hopefully bike tech is better. 👍🏻
Enjoyed the review Richy, you certainly don't spare the horses, yes mate when I brought my third GSA last November I was seriously thinking of this bike, it was a fine balance for me, I love the blind spot monitoring and the radar cruise, but I love a shaft drive, so with that in mind, and the 4k less cost I had the GSA. but I must admit it's an awesome bit of kit, thank you...
Amazing video/ review and an amazing bike, I have the 2017 Multistrada enduro and love it to bits- the only way I’d part company with it is to swap it with the v4 but cannot justify at the moment as have other bikes - TL1000R etc and currently looking at buying an old school RD350lc. Keep the excellent videos coming 🏍 all the best John G🏍
I demo’d the v2 loved it almost bought one then I demo’d the v4s and just loved the power on tap. Of course it’s hard to use it but on those rare occasions you can it’s amazing. Its just ‘more’ ! It’s ducatis best bike. That and the pikes peak. I sold my Gs recently. Love that bike too tbh. Can’t say a bad word about the gs even though I sold it. Just wanted something different and a bit more fun. I think the plastic front parts are more for airflow to keep the rider cooler. And the side fins are to move heat away from the engine. It’s quite thirsty but it’s a fast v4. If that’s an issue I’d agree don’t buy it. Doesn’t bother me love it.
Absolutely fantastic review Richy and a sublime demonstration of a very capable machine... Loving my V4S Multi and I have upgraded the fuel cap as Ducati do a keyless for a good few quid... The top box also sits on a movable mount for stability, and yes it's no GS in the fuel economy stakes but ill take that over fit and finish and that great feeling of being onboard a very premium product 😀 some big miles planned...
That’s a very clever bike Rich, but 24k? Ouch! But horses for courses as they say. Still prefer your test on the KTM SA R. Now THAT was a test!!!! Thank you👍
Common mistake: the wings are not made for extra downforce. They just move cool air to your legs and move hot air away from your legs. Also you do NOT need the key to open the fuel tank.
Have to agree with the Pirelli scorpion trail 2 tyres, have them on my SAS, I’ve used the full tyre and they inspire confidence on the road for something considered a “trail” tyre. The only bike I’d want to swap the ktm for is the strada but a bit too expensive for me at the minute. Top video 👌
Great review thanks for sharing that one. Love the extended service interval, compared to the gs and other bikes. Yup cruise control a must. 😎🏍💨💨💨💨👍🏻🇨🇦🥂
Great review, as a Multistrada owner (1200 Enduro) I'd be interested to know how you think the V4S compares to the KTM 1290 Super Adventure R you recently tested ?
Although they’re in the same genre, they’re quite different. The SAr is aggressive and shouty, where the V4s is refined and elegant. Oh, and way faster top end. I’d be worried about taking the Multi off-road, and as such probably shy away from doing so. Whereas the KTM I’d happily chuck that around off-road - as I did in the review vid 👍👍
@@RichyVida I enjoyed my test on the V4S, it was beautifully built and performed like an upright sports bike, however two things put me off , the price 25K and the lack of touring range (about 150 miles), these two negatives lead me to try the 1290 Super Adventure which was an awesome ride , it has similar performance to the V4S but was the best part of 10K cheaper and had a 250 mile touring range.
It really is. I mean traction control is just bonkers clever stuff, really! Tyre monitors, elec suspension, self levelling suspension, radar, cruise.. list goes on. They’ll be self-cleaning before we know it!
Top review mate. And an Impressive bike for sure, but is it an Africa Twin beater? I do (still) worry about Italian electronics too in anything but glorious sunshine - and that bike has a LOT of electrical gizmo’s!

I thought the Multi was my new favourite bike til I rode the Super Adventure R. The Multi is refined, elegant and beautiful. The SAr is stupid, shouty and crackers. Both bikers are incredible. Depends what you want out of it, I suppose! Sod it, just buy both!
It look awesome, shame a lottery win is needed. Would love on but having read other Ducati threads I would forever be waiting for a warning light to come on and render the bike useless. Great review though.
Great video. Looks like a great bike. A question. Was the fuel used E10 crap or E5 ? Have that radar gadget in my truck. Great device. Was wondering how it would be on a bike. And you’ve fit in with it straight away.. So great.. would be good to see more manufacturers incorporate it ? 👍
@@RichyVida yes that could do a great video. Test out first in case I’m talking out of my arse. But for example the Tesco garage in settle. If I fuel up with E10 from Stalybridge. I Have to top up there. And that’s only doing 60mph on motorway. However the other day I set off from SB, but with V-power from Shell. And I seemed to have a lot more fuel left, rode around settle single track lanes and back to SB without topping up ??? I suppose to properly test it out. Would have to do the exact same route at the exact speeds etc 😂 Actually yes. That would be a great video to watch 👍
By all accounts it is an impressive machine, by a lot. By not knowing anything about Ducati, I have heard of reliability issues. Any thoughts concerning these problems?
With radar on and a car ahead slowing unexpectedly will the bike actually BRAKE rather than just engine braking, ie going down the gears? Would it do an emergency stop in that situation?!
As well as braking and accelerating for you, the rider can go up and down the gearbox without canceling it - very useful when following variable-speed traffic. It's one of the very best features of the bike.
@@RichyVida yeas and big issue was the range, especially touring Scotland during the fuel crisis got very nerve racking at time. But your review was ace especially the detail about the radar features . I’m looking forward to the radar cruise and safety systems coming mainstream on this kind of bikes. I understand it’s a Bosch system so should be as good across all the manufacturers.
I took a V4s multistrada out for a test ride with the intention of buying one. I tested the GS on the same day as I couldn’t make my mind up between the two of them. I ended up buying a fully specked GS. For me it was the better bike.

Great review, interested to get your thoughts on this V4S vs 1290 Super Adventure R in terms of character and grin factor?
I thought the Multi was my new favourite bike til I rode the Super Adventure R. The Multi is refined, elegant and beautiful. The SAr is stupid, shouty and crackers. Both bikers are incredible. Depends what you want out of it, I suppose! Sod it, just buy both!
I know they are different bikes Richi but how does it compare the ktm gt?
KTM GT?
@@RichyVida 1290
So this or the KTM Adventure R??
It look awesome, shame a lottery win is needed. Would love on but having read other Ducati threads I would forever be waiting for a warning light to come on and render the bike useless. Great review though.
Great video. Looks like a great bike.
A question. Was the fuel used E10 crap or E5 ?
Have that radar gadget in my truck. Great device. Was wondering how it would be on a bike.
And you’ve fit in with it straight away..
So great.. would be good to see more manufacturers incorporate it ? 👍
E10. Not many places using E5 anymore? Yep, the radar is mega.
@@RichyVida That is correct. But everyone I see it I put it in.
My AT also drinks the E10 as I’m sure you may notice on yours ?
Don’t notice any less mileage? Or not that I’ve paid attn to, anyway? Maybe That’ll make a good comparison video.
Would have to do the exact same route at the exact speeds etc 😂
Actually yes. That would be a great video to watch 👍
By all accounts it is an impressive machine, by a lot. By not knowing anything about Ducati, I have heard of reliability issues. Any thoughts concerning these problems?
Not heard of any at all?
Well, the first batch of these needed new engines due to valve guide issues, I wouldn’t say that was a good start for reliability 😳
I bought a V2 S after three GSs, no issues but that can’t be said for my GSs, build quality better too…
So you can have this or the new KTM 1290 ….which one you taking home ?
Well if they’re giving them away, I’ll take both. I’m not greedy or anything!
Hi rich do you think all this technology is taking away the fun of actually riding it.
Defo not taking away any fun. It’s just adding to safety and functionality 👍
Rich, purely fun ... grin factor, thus Multi or the KTM 1290 ....
Purely for grin factor? SAr.
With radar on and a car ahead slowing unexpectedly will the bike actually BRAKE rather than just engine braking, ie going down the gears? Would it do an emergency stop in that situation?!
no, it will brake down to about 15 mph, it won't downshift, that was Richie
Exactly as David said below. The bike will actually brake, and brake hard if needs be. I was the one dropping the gears.
@@RichyVida 👍
As well as braking and accelerating for you, the rider can go up and down the gearbox without canceling it - very useful when following variable-speed traffic. It's one of the very best features of the bike.
They are lovely bikes mate your riding the 1260s wish you could come ride mine give me your opinion my is only the 1200s mate
I’m sure it’s just as much of a weapon as this!
I want to do a testride 🤩
Does it need a Denali sound bomb ?
All bikes do! Haha
Richy, you didn't mention the range, it was really poor when we went touring
I did mention how thirsty it was, so kinda covered that. Having a few msgs off owners saying the same. She’s a thirsty girl, for sure!
Great review, but would you trade the African twin in for one Richie?????🤔
AT is going nowhere 👍
What do you use to clean you visor Rich?
I use a wax cleaner. Called DioWax from a local company called DioMyx. Great stuff!
@@RichyVida Great results. Nice one Richy
Strange seeing Woodhus from a bikers perspective…even stranger seeing my car on TH-cam
Haha really? Nice surprise for ya.. “hey, hang on a minute!” Haha
I took a V4s multistrada out for a test ride with the intention of buying one. I tested the GS on the same day as I couldn’t make my mind up between the two of them. I ended up buying a fully specked GS. For me it was the better bike.
