    DUDE! So glad you attempted this and recorded it! And good to see that my videos were helpful. As for putty sticking to armatures, protip is to add a thin later of putty to the wire, let that set, then sculpt on that. Also, I'm not a fan of Milliput. Much better to use Apoxie Sculpt for putty armatures. And, yes, the spoon tool is definitely the best thing since sliced bread ♥

    • @MrStatistx
      @MrStatistx 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am a total noob, but I can already agree on the milliput. The little stuff that I did was far easier with magic sculpt or greenstuff. The milliput just kinda got grainy and fell apart by the slightest wrong movement.

    • @thehobbygit281
      @thehobbygit281 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@MrStatistx With milliput you want to use plenty of water. But I tend to use it just for understructure, basically filling in the shape before details as Miniac does here (it's less hurtful on the wallet than doing the same with greenstuff or procreate). If you don't like using milliput though, try Brownstuff. It's much tougher than greenstuff as you sculpt (I use it for rocks, solid forms and understructure on occasion). It's more expensive than milliput but it's a nice medium between the milliput's strength and the greenstuff's more pliable sculpting texture. Brownstuff can be brittle when it dries though, so get some practice with it.
      With limbs and stuff, always consider armature strengthening underneath with wire or paperclips. It's all about practice! Get used to how the materials react to your sculpting, get a feel for them and sooner or later you'll be using what you need for each task more or less on instinct. Happy sculpting!

      You can mix miliput and greenstuff together to get a hybrid of both as well. Its all epoxy putty in the end

      Yeah Milliput from the little use I've had with it just doesnt compare to green stuff I need to get some apoxie to play with

    The most important thing to remember is: We were all bad at everything we are good at, when we started. Don't be afraid to be bad at something new.
    I may invest in some sculpting stuff myself to concept out referential material for my comic because your video here helped me realize that beginners shouldn't be synonymous with quitters. Thank you for that lesson, this is why I keep coming back here :)

    Working in stages, using different mixtures of Greenstuff for different stages of the modeling-process and pre-curing the Greenstuff before using it are probably the most important lessons i made when starting to sculpt / convert minis with Greenstuff.

    If you want to fix miliput to a fiddly armature you can start it with a small dab of superglue to hold it in place and then sculpt the rest to the desired shape.
    A miliput-greenstuff mix will also retain some of the stickiness of the greenstuff to adhere to fiddly armatures.
    Instead of the oven, you can hold your work in progress right up to a desk lamp to heat-cure it quickly (pliers or long tweezers recommended).

    Nice job man awesome as always. Green stuff is awesome, and here are a few tips if you wanted to keep using it in the future. (Found these out later so I can only imagine what you will create) 1 water is awesome for combating its sticky ness and just to tamper or sculpt. 2 if you can leave it on it’s armature for the full curing time (about 5 hours) this helps to avoid the green stuff from smooshing your detail work. 3 green stuff does work with jeweler wire and allows for articulation and rigging for sculpts just make sure to have enough stuff between the sculpture and wire. Can’t wait to see what you build next man... till then I’ll paint more minis.

    Honestly, I really enjoyed this video, although your comment about not wanting to make a video til you are pretty decent at something, there is a big gap in miniature videos that are exactly that, watching the process of someone learning how to do things by trying things out mini wise, and definitely making mistakes or not turning out something perfect. I for one would love to see content like this.

    @Ilidan1985 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ambitious :D I've started with super sculpey because milliput is drying to fast and I couldn't make any changes later... so I only used it for armature and then sculpey on top of that. To me best hardness is when I mix medium and soft. Sometimes it's also good to have firm version. Pro tip for finishing that I've learned recently is to use turpentine to smooth the whole figure before baking. It removes all fingerprints and stuff like that. For milliput we can use water, but it's messy... anyway GREAT JOB as for first mini!

    Really cool, the fangs are scary as hell. You could probably cast that, well minus the thin sticking out parts. As for tools - I have a whole armory of metal utencils for sculpey, but I always end up using almost 100% silicone tools. Takes longer, but is less invasive on the sculpture in the process. Or maybe I'm just scared to start using the metal ones :) Great job on the Demon, new Doom is just a beautiful mess.

    Quick tip I picked up from some mini sculptors: to avoid milliput not sticking to the armature just score the wire with a file an cover it with a base of green stuff since it's stickier than other epoxies. Also degrease the metal wire and don't touch the stuff with bare hands

    In the start of the lockdown i decided to attempt to sculpt a tyranid barbed hierodule out of wood and milliput, it's hideous and Looks pretty awful for what its meant to be (not a huge surprise, i have never tried it before and i have no tools) but for some reason i really like it, its certainly not something i would ever take to a serious 40k game but its a fun little mascot for me now, i even tied a tiny lindt rabbit bell around its neck and named it Barbara bell, also taught me a looooot about working with milliput.
    The whole thing cost me around 3 pounds to make (and a lot of time) so even if looks like trash im kinda happy with it.
    Though i just cant even make an attempt at guns, its guns are more or less just big cylinders with a hole in the middle so i need to replace them at some point.
    Anyway my point is, even if it looks bad, putting in the time to finish a project like that, learning how to work with a new medium, it feels good and i dont think ill get rid of it for a long long time.
