The Best Bait To Catch BIG FISH During Spring! (MULTI-SPECIES DAY)

Spring is almost here and many freshwater species are getting more active as they prepare for their spawn. One bait is superior to all and that is live minnows. Even on days when fish wont hit lures, minnows seem to get the job done. On this trip, Brady and I head out to a lake that has a lot of big fish. The conditions weren't ideal and the bite was slow until we started dropping down minnows. Bass, crappie, and even a catfish started biting our lines which turned a slow day into steady action. Those were the biggest crappie I've seen anyone catch in MD. I wish the state would put a size limit on them so we would see more of those huge slabs.

I’ve caught two of my biggest crappie in Loch Raven on the same rock pile an hour apart a few years ago at springtime. The biggest was 17 7/8” and the smaller was 17.5”.
