  • Hout Bay's poachers walked and talked me through how and why they poach. Starting from their fishing village and ending where they set off to fish- this was a very interesting journey and glimpse into the lives of the self proclaimed 'indigenous fishermen' of Cape Town.

Marine aquaculture on shore seems the only logical & mathematically correct proposal to alleviate thevrrason why there are anti poaching laws in the first place if not then the grand children of yhese poachers will gave no knowledge of perly except by means of stories of the grand parent's and some prison photos etc

Those people are not taking out 4 a day. They decimating the ocean. They have total disregard for nature and the future of the environment . Perlemoen play a key role in keeping the marine life stable. It’s one of the main reasons why many other species of fish are hard to find along our shores. These people are not being educated properly and taught to find other ways to fish for a living.

40-50kg at 400rand per kg wow! That’s a lot of food on the table! With that money they should be able to buy permits, bribe officials, buy a rubber duck and motor and pay someone to carry the Perly

Isn’t abalone endangered? Hence the need for a permit. I understand you need to feed your family but you’re killing the ocean. There are I’ll be no more abalone soon. What you gonna do then ? Eat humans.? Humans are over populated so you may as well
