    My aunt and mom use to make this every Thanksgiving and Christmas. We didn't know it was a Filipino dessert until long after we were making it on holidays. We love it!

    I made it and it was so good. When I added 3 tbsp sour milk I felt it still a bit too sweet because of the condensed milk so I added more (ecological) sour cream (300 gms) and it tasted extremely good. Thanks a lot for the recipe. I never used to like tinned fruits so I was a bit skeptical in the beginning but my God this tastes too good when mixed with condensed milk and sour cream.

    We have a similar dessert in Haiti, except that we put coconut milk, sour cream and vanilla and other sweet spices in it.

    i made this fruit salad and it tasted very good. my only concern is it became overly sweet. for me the amount of condenced milk should be less for one can of fruit.

    i used evaporated milk instead of sour cream and its taste nice too.. and i only used half of the condense milk for 1 tin fruit cocktail

    Never knew it had any connection to Filipino cooking. My grandmother always had a bowl of it when the family got together...and we are pure CAJUN. Doubtful she ever knew anyone from or related to Filipino folks. I actually just made a bowl of it for myself. note: we always used a 50/50 mix of condensed and evaporated milk to tone down the sweetness

    can sub the sour cream to whip cream?

    • @AnitaCooks
      @AnitaCooks  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Atalani Fuapapa Hi, sour cream is used to cut the sweetness of the condensed milk and to give it tang. Whipped cream wouldn't give it the same taste. You can use very soft whipped cream cheese:)

    How come u never said sour cream in the beginning and u never used the sugar?

    • @elizabethshaw734
      @elizabethshaw734 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      frankie chen she did say sour cream in the beginning and pointed to a small bowl with sour cream in it. she didn't use sugar because that can of sweetened condensed milk has a great deal of sugar in it. That is how it is made by boiling milk and sugar together and canning it.

    • @AnitaCooks
      @AnitaCooks  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, that would work too, I have used cream cheese. Just make sure to beat the cream cheese until it's smooth and mix with a little condensed milk first. Then add in remaining condensed milk - this avoids lumps :)

      It would be better to use thick, plain yogurt that’s not sweet since the condensed milk is very sweet 😀
