Excellent tutorial. I have tried different birch tree tutorials. This is by far the best. I even used this to paint birch trees on a rock as a gift for my physical therapist. She loved it. I am a beginner.
I like the 10 min. videos where you use the split screen showing your pallet and how you are dipping into it to get the various shades that you come up with. I would implore you to do this as it only enhances your ability to teach, which by the way you are very good at .. However adding the split screen would up your game to a stellar level .. :)
I had a lot of fun with this one and I believe it is my new favorite. Although every time you post, I think it's my new favorite. Thank you for such a wonderful opportunity to be creative. I enjoy your tutorials immensely.
I love watching your videos on saturday. Today at work before I got home I already hear your voice in my head. Monotone and easy to listen to. With that being said :) .............I only paint abstract, and watch the video for fun. I would like to watch you making a abstract. Or semiabstract. But perhaps it is not your thing, than not ofcourse.
Duuuude...I simply loved this video. It was so so informative. I liked the way you layered your trees w so many different layers, shades. I got more from this little ditty on the painting of the birch itself...instead of the whole picture(which was quite informative as well) It seems like most of the tutorials I viewed started the tree out in white & then scraped black on w a credit card. Anyways. You kept dropping bombs of info that just exploded in my mind w understanding the why's, how's & what for's. Thanks
Sue Chester hey. So funny. I was just looking for loon tutorial(& great blue heron) I used to summer up on Lake Winnepesaukee in Wolfsboro,N.H. & have some classical music w the call of the loon set to it that I listen to while I paint.
I see you are using different paint brushes with different colors. Wont' the brush get dry, How do you manage to keep them moist ? It has to be cool or else the brush tip becomes hard ? Loved your instructions, and the video. Thanks.
I really got a lot out of this tutorial. Could you show your palette and your paint mixing at times?? I enjoyed getting basic concepts thrown in, like shadow/highlites, using a sharpie, benies to using white and blacks in mixes for opaque qualities.
I was asked to teach painting to seniors. These videos help me a lot but wondering if the initial sharpie sketches can be downloaded somehow so I can prepare the canvases for them in advance and they can just start at the painting phase?
Unfortunately this lesson was completed before I started creating digital sketches. Most of my new lessons have the line art versions up over on my Patreon www.patreon.com/onehourpaintings
I just completed the birch trees for beginners, and I'm shocked at how good it turned out. My family and friends are surprised too. I have not artistic talent. I would like to try another painting, can you suggest another easy for beginner painting to try? thanks
@@louisab2687 there is one of an oak tree in a field in the 10 minute paintings series that I'd highly recommend. I completed it yesterday and it's one of my best paintings yet.
Awesome, just found you! Am I right to assume that the reason the paint is so see-through is because you add water or glaze? Or is it that the lines on the canvas are so dark, and are they done with a thin brush and black paint or some type of marker?
It's a combination of what you mentioned. I do use a good amount of water in my mixes which does thin the paint. However, the lines were done with a fine tipped sharpie marker. They are fantastic markers because they don't bleed/blend with the paint and you can generally see the markings through the initial painting layers which allows you to be a little bit more loose with the backgrounds. However, they can show through the back of regular canvas so I use them exclusively on these canvas boards. Hope that helps!
You could use watercolor pencils which blend right in and don't mess with the pigment of your paint. Also if you mix water with acrylic paint it will cause to craze.
I want to ask why my brushes for acrylic get dry and hard so I have to buy another after a short time of using it . thank you for your amazing videos :)
Raneem Jamal how are you cleaning them? I use mine and when I am done with a brush I immediately clean and dry it. Also what quality of brush are you using?
Dawn Koehl I use high quality brushes , but when I clean them up it get hard to remove all the painting, also when I finish cleaning them I let them without dry out thank you for answering my question
You may have grabbed the wrong kind of fiber type brushes to work with acrylic paint. There different fiber types for different types of paint like acrylic, watercolors, oils etc. Use a good brush cleaner and conditioner meant for your type of brushes liqutex make some great one.
is there a way to create mountains without a knife, but in a short time. it takes me about half an hour for me to create a single mountain, and my patience does not hold that long. I request that you do a video in which you create mountains without a knife. :)

Beautiful painting! I’m wondering if you make your various shades of gray by mixing black and white? Thank you.
I generally do for these more quick lessons. However, you can also desaturate colors by adding their complimentary color :)
good
