    GORG JUS Spent 6 weeks in Melbourne in August with the van. Very cold and wet, one night ended up with swimming pool of water on the canopy sagging the transverse bar badly so now I have to replace. Anti flap kit is definitely top of my Christmas list. Great video again Nathan thanks and happy travels

      G'Day Peter, good to hear from you again. Ahh, not great. The AFK is a handy little piece of equipment for sure!
      Might see you around again sometime soon as we travel around too! In Adelaide, SA at the moment.

    Mate, your video and explanation are excellent quality and spot on the subject as usual. But here comes the catch why I did not buy it yet. A. Storage space in the van : My Jayco 13.43 Adventurer, No space under the bed for that sort of gear. B. The Aussie Traveller kit is bulky with the bag. C. Front box top on the van is pretty much loaded with other stuff. Assuming that you have alenghts the awning a sun shield and at least one for the front and a decent floormat that are 3 bulky packs or even a 3 side full one-suite o r a gazebo tent which need to be stowed away I run out of Ideas at the moment how to accommodate that all packed outside the van in the front boxes. Cheers

      For sure, they definitely are bulky in their design, but I can't think of another way to re-invent this type of modification in a more compact form with compromising strength.
      Luckily, it is just one of the additions that aren't necessarily 'essential', however just handy. Still plenty of other options out there.
      Appreciate your comments on the video's, very encouraging.
      Cheers, Nathan.

      Get a pod to put on the roof of your car. That is what we used to carry all that type of gear in.

    Great video explaining how these work in sufficient detail to allow viewers to make a well informed decision. Personally, not for me just yet but maybe later when we stop for long periods more frequently. For now this would just complicate setting the awning up for me and make it painful like most camper trailers. It takes me seconds to pack it away for the night or when we leave camp and same when I get back. Being a full size van, the cheaper anti flap kits bracing the canvas to the side poles stops flapping for us. The engineering is impressive though and I see the value if you want to keep your awnings set up for longer periods or just not pack it way each night or when you leave camp. Also probably a great idea if you intend to use an annexxe.

      For sure, each to their own. I can understand why some people think these are too much, but others won’t go without them 👍 great item for those wanting to setup awning walls or screens.

    More stuff to buy and store for what benefit?..Just close your awning when the winds come in and at night when you goto bed..I wish I had an awning for its easy of use, this stuff just complicates stuff. Anyway good video explaining things for those who wants this stuff.

      Cheers mate. Appreciate the comments. I completely understand where your coming from, these mod's aren't 'essential' as such, just a handy piece of equipment to have if you have the space. I probably wouldn't be able to carry one if I was living out of the van, but for weekenders and shorter trips away, I'd still recommend one.
      Cheers, Nathan.

      @@XploringOz I'm not sure if you have done a de-cluttering video, if you haven't that would be interesting..I'm going thru this now, we just carry too much crap around that we never use.Anyway keep up the good work I appreciate your efforts.

    thanks for an awesome vid! can you shed some light on the holes drilled in the barrel and rain water getting in ?

    • @XploringOz
      @XploringOz  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers mate, so I don't have this van any more, however water ingress into these holes did not seem to be an issue. If this were to occur though, I wold probably roll the barrel to have them face downwards for draining.
      Cheers, Nathan. 👍

    De Flappers are cost effective, do a similar job, and easy to store. a must have in windy conditions so you dont rip your awning to shreds.

    • @XploringOz
      @XploringOz  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For sure. They do a similar job, however they can, overtime cause a little stretch in the material at the tension isn't provided over the entire edge of the awning material like these AFK's. Further, this stretch can be exacerbated on pop-top van's where the supporting bar is a further distance from the edge of the awning material.
      Cheers, Nathan.

    Great instructions, one question, does the barrel fill up with water when it rains, with the extra holes drilled into it ?

    • @XploringOz
      @XploringOz  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've never had that issue where the barrels have filled up, they seem to either not fill up, or drain adequately 👍

    What kind of step ladder do you have and where do you store the AFK and the step ladder please :)

    • @XploringOz
      @XploringOz  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, so this is the step ladder I have been using for some time without issue now: www.bunnings.com.au/bailey-100kg-2-step-handistep-ladder_p0860224?gclid=Cj0KCQjwguGYBhDRARIsAHgRm49VTDQhhpnqLrHhD-0BHWoLH8PYeSPwWARGXS3W86p5I4CcWvWVRLQaArzPEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
      Also, the AFK is generally stored in the front boot of the van. I'll be getting my new van soon too, where it will also be kept in the same area 👍

    We got this AFK but it seems that there are screws missing to fix side panels properly. Why do you not show the 2 halves of each side clamp being put together?

    • @XploringOz
      @XploringOz  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry to hear that those parts are missing.
      The clamping is a relatively simple process, just a small black twist knob to be tightened when the two pieces are joined.

    to be 100% honest we have been motor homing for 35 years and have had awnings on every rv ,, I could count on one hand the times we have used them ,,, I find them a waist of money and they RATTLE THER SELF APART only good awning we had was a fame f65 ,, the rest were crap

    • @XploringOz
      @XploringOz  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fair enough, it's good to get the stories from those who have been using these things for long periods of time.
      For myself, I do reply on the awning, as the interior of the van is just not quite big enough to comfortably accomodate a family of 4 for long periods of time. The awning provides that extra 'room' outside for the kids.
      Thanks for your experience,
      Nathan.

    Hi, I recently got a caravan that has a roll out awning. Was very interested in the anti flap kit. I noticed my awning has eyelets running down both sides of it. Would this effect the useability of the flap kit ?

    • @XploringOz
      @XploringOz  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, this shouldn't effect this style of AFK. Just being a clamp mechanism, it should be able to clamp over the top 👍
      Cheers, Nathan.

    I clicked on the link for the bag and it comes up
    Looks like this page is missing.
    Also what ladder are you using? We have a full size van

    Why did you go river rather than screw to attach brackets? About to install mine and trying to work out which way to go.

    • @XploringOz
      @XploringOz  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I believe riverts were the recommended mounting gear, whether or not they have changed this I’m not too sure. Personally, I’d stick with riverts as they don’t have sharp edges protruding, reducing potential damage to the canvas pop-top.
