Is the Time Team trowel guaranteed to dig up gold?
Yes, but only if there is some there to be dug up! 😂 😊

I was 20 when time team started, and 40 ish when it finished. I looked forward to the Sundays when it was on. Nothing interrupted that hour. I felt like I'd lost something important when it finished. It had, after all, been there half my life, watching these people. It was a happy time.

It was on during the week in Ireland, Wednesday and Thursday in the afternoon about 3pm. Work stopped for a hour. The advantages of being self employed. Time Team was great and exciting and educational

I always appreciate how Sir Tony on TT speaks (in my mind) something like the show viewer, asking the questions like "what's so important about X?'" or "why are you wanting to dig here rather than there?" or "are you sure these geophys results show something; I just see a few spots and wiggles?" etc. I think that helps so much, to me, to watch the show more actively, than be passively entertained. Thank you to Tony, and all the rest of the gang who makes for such an informative and engaging.

Tony was the ideal host in TOS. He had excitement, passion, inquisitiveness and gave as good as he got. Loved it when he wound the Team up in his effort to understand why they were forever NOT digging unexplored features because "digging is destruction". AND it took him several seasons to NOT get in the trench. Mick finally "learned him". 😆😂🤣 So many more reasons!

He was the everyday man’s viewpoint.
He was the curiosity of the layman who is educated during the seasons to appreciate history like an archaeologist.

I only recently discovered Time Team on TH-cam, and I love it! But what has made it extra special is Tony Robinson! Gus is a nice man, but I do miss Tony’s wit and knowledge, and his great enthusiasm. Will he be back at all in future episodes? Was it his choice not to be involved or was it forced upon him? I’ve subscribed to Time Team Official, but will not be a Patron at this time until I am sure the new episodes are just as entertaining as the old - bring back Tony!!

i think the metal detectorist finding that golden coin is my favorite episode too, just watching the guy's face that beam and how he was still holding his hand out after they took it off him, it was still shaking , i watched the searies from when it started and have enjoyed the new content but it's not the same without Tony. Time Team was my religion for its entire run in my house in Australia. No children or husband were to speak or interrupt me while I was watching it. Ended up my children became devotees as well. 😅 they used to think that you could just dig a hole anywhere in England and find something thousands of years old.
Loved time team and still watch the re-runs when I can.

Tony's transition from knowing almost nothing at all about archaeology to talking about Mycaenaen culture is huge.
I've been rewatching old episodes and the really early ones are lessons for Tony on archaeology, archaeological terminology, geophysics, dendrochronology. The various specialist departments such as archaeobiology, pottery specialists, brick work, Roman jewellery etc were all as fascinating to him as they were to me, and Us.
    Geez I loved Time Team.

What Tony brought to the show was representing us, the average person. He asked the questions that we might ask and got the answers from the experts. This is what the American version lacked and the newer versions lack. I want someone like me there not just a bunch of archeologists talking patronizingly to me. Phil also brought that average guy aspect, who obviously knows his stuff, but not posh. That is what made Time Team different and special.

And much later I saw a couple of his TV specials, e.g. his special about Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code. It wasn't until Time Team started showing up on YT that I discovered that show and his extensive, wonderful relationship with that incredible series. I'm so happy to see he is back in the fold now.
