This was the best comparison I’ve seen so far. I love the fact that BRP produces 2 very different absolutely excellent trail sleds. I love riding on the edge and doing wheelies over bumps so my choice is obvious. Also when you realize you can wheelie through corners just by moving your weight, you stop missing the coupled skid completely
Thanks for the video! Starting 22-23 season on an Xterrain, I had a really hard time choosing between that and an Assault, I hope you can do a comparison video on the Matryx Assault vs the Xterrain this season!
14:50: Nailed it. Ski LIFT vs wheel stand wheelies. but you float over stuff moguls much better. As a Assault rider --I am looking at adding the Xterrain as it's Lynx' "Assault", but same suspension as Rave.
Definitely in the snow check market. Very disappointed they didn't make the 600 a G5 where I ride it is super tight and have never really needed a 850. It would be nice when I go up North but I only do that a couple times a year. I am currently riding a G4 XRS 600. Love your videos keep up the great work 👍
Great review! I'm so torn between a '23 Rave and the' 23 Renegade XRS with smart shox, the 10" diaplay and my go-to C&A skis. I'm coming from a done up mxz 850. I Know I'd love the Rave ride but the new Gade tech has me by the 🏀🏀
Thanks man! If you've had a renegade and enjoyed it in the past id say go for the 23 G5! If you've owned or ridden one and felt its lack a little something then id say give the Rave a shot. They're very different experiences in my opinion. I think a lot of riders could make either or work for them but I feel like it comes down to what part of your day you prioritize. Max groomed trail perfomance and all out corner to corner speed then renegade. Playfulness and big bump performance, then the Rave is a great fit.
I picked up my 23 Rave 850 last week coming off of an 800 Assault and it's a night and day difference. One thing I do agree with is how wide it feels compared to my Assault. The only thing I'd disagree with is your take on turning on the trails...maybe because I'm coming off the assault, but if you use body position to turn and lean back exiting the turn, give it some gas...nothing out there feels like that....as you just haul butt and the front end sticks up in the air. This is the sled to get, imo.
The cutout on the G4 at 2:40 has never felt right to me. On my XRS its basically required to slide my knee up there, else the sled either pushes or feels like I'll get bucked off to the outside. But if I hit any bumps whatsoever my knee will slam against that corner. The inside of my knees end up black/blue after a weekend of riding. The Polaris does this so much better it is the number 1 reason I'm switching back.
So you’ve been on the assault 800, you’ve been on the assault 850 you’ve been on the riot you’ve been on the renegade and you’ve been on the Lynx now you just need to get on a matrix assault 146 and then you can compare on what would be your favorite sled for your riding. Hearing from guys that have been on the axys assault and have gone to a matrix assault they all say it is much more of a dirtbike riding feel and they definitely feel it easier to corner and handle on tight twisty trails in the woods as it feels so much more nimble on the matrix.
Great job Bobby, excellent review! I hope you get to try a matryx assault to compare to your past axys assaults very interested to hear your thoughts on that and how you like it compared to the lynx as well. I’m pretty torn this year on what to order. Either G5 renny or assault. I’m leaning toward the assault as that sleds character fits me best but I haven’t had a Polaris before so I’m a little nervous. I wish the backcountry would have been a G5 this year so I could consider that too. Not sure where you go after the lynx, maybe you keep it a bit longer then normal if you really enjoy it. Part of me misses seeing you on the assaults though. Do you think the assault is on par with the lynx on trail?
Thanks man I’m in New York and we are in Old Forge and the mountains every other weekend. Did you put that larger lug track on your lynx? It doesn’t look factory. Looks like a tough track for the hard pack.
Great job on comparing sleds having a hard time choosing.first snow check this year and never ridden a snowmobile would I have a hard time with a lynx most people go from one to another but not ever ridden one would I just get used to the links by the way 53-year-old man put $1000 on the 2023 links already good or bad move any suggestions before it’s too late?
If its your first sled id say start with the renegade. It still has a ton of groomed and bumpy trails performance and as an overall package is very manageable where as the Lynx takes a bit more rider input to really get the most out of it.
Spring ordered a G5 Renegade XRS on Wednesday, super amped for that, the look is starting to grow on me. Are you going to the skidoo spring tour in Old Forge?
Congrats man! I feel the same way looks wise especially with the trail sleds. They have grown on me a lot! Between all the tech and the ergo upgrades should be an awesome sled. Cant wait to hear some reviews on them next season!
I've rode both. Both have excellent power and handling. For me though it's the Lynx in suspension, power, and the looks. The XCR feels like mashed potatoes.
are the trails rough and thin in old forge? (assuming that's where you rode last) we are really thin here in altmar and i am looking for at least 200 more miles. i heard many trail systems were closed today.
Have you run trails with the limiter on 1 & 2 ? Is so, how did it change for you, assuming that’s the only change you made, other adjustments set in the middle.
All I've changed is I took two clicks of low speed compression out of the front shocks. Otherwise I've been very happy with it. If the season isn't over (a lot of rain around here thos week) ill try adjusting the limiter strap and see how it changes the sled next time out
@@Revrider550 I have about 435 miles on mine without changing anything yet, love the sled on smooth trails, and even better, as you pointed out when it gets rougher. The biggest reason I bought it for. 11% break in left.
I’m a little surprised that the new 2023 GEN 5 platform is only on the 850 motor. Perhaps skidoo has a 650 in the making for next year and they didn’t want to put the GEN 5 in only a 600 sled. Also it will be interesting when the Lynx end’s up getting the GEN 5 platform maybe the following year..
Tough question... I think the Lynx does it wayyy smoother but I can corner faster on the Renegade even if its choppy. With the Lynx you have to get the ski to bite then you can accelerate through the corner. The renegade is turning in as soon as you turn the bars so you can immediately start to accelerate though the corner.
it would tell a lot if you swapped the skis and rode them both. Get different Carbides for the Lynx and check ski alignment. Stud Boy Deuce Bars Carbides.

Very good review of these sleds. Helps with my decision making.

Great comparison of the two. I still think the Renegade looks the best and that's what I'd be riding as well. To each his own I guess.

Great comparison video!
Nice review Bobby! You have 2 great sleds there. Are you going to keep the Renegade?
Great video! Well done. Good information!
Are you considering the fuel caddy on the back of a non coupled sled. Handling will be affected

Go find a matryx xcr 137 to compare. Be interested to see what you think.

Must have better snow on trails Tomahawk had alot of ice couldn't get that front end lift
Which sled do you feel takes on a choppy high speed corner better?

I thought this was a great review what I've been looking for a review of a sled that somebody isn't getting paid by the manufacturers in advertising
Thanks so much man! I always do my best to share what I experience for better or for worse. Glad to hear its appreciated!!
I'll stick with my assault
All groomed trails get bumpy by the end of the day
Great reviews!! Any chance of sending me email so I can ask some questions,
