  • We just had a brand new 2021 Renegade X-RS dropped off at our front door featuring the new RAS X and rMotion X suspension, Rotax 850 E-TEC engine, new 7.2-inch wide digital display and new Pilot X skis. Watch as Luke gives a first look at this sled and provides a full overview, sharing some opinions and details after getting a chance to ride it last month in Montana.

    I rode a 201/2 dealer demo while riding my buddy was on his poo . Needless to say we switched off sleds , and honestly I see very little difference between my 20 XRS and the new one . The inside ski still came up in the corners . Bottom line if you aren’t in the proper position hammering through the corners the inside ski will come up . No doubt I love skidoo the faster you go the better they ride . After riding the poo I have to be honest the front end is the flattest and calmest I’ve ever ridden . I have been riding new skidoo’s since 2014 2018 2020 . So I snow checked a new vr1 850 and see how it goes . I’m keeping my 20xrs that I love .

      I hear ya I ride skidoo also a mxz etec now. But Polaris has done something nice with their handling and I love the flat foot and seating position of them also may give one a try eventually. Looking at the Indy XCr’s. But I’ll keep my mxz also anyways doesn’t hurt to have a back up sled

    I hope this suspension will become available on all models for the following season. As for the gauge, speed, RPM, fuel, temp and warmers are enough for me. I don’t want to take phone calls when I’m out, it’s my time! Great job Luke!

    I live in Florida and I'm watching this. The reason.....I saw the wildlife officers on North woods law riding them. Great video. I used to ride as a kid when I lived in upstate NY. That was 40 years ago. These sleds have come a long way. Love it.

    Good walk around, thanks. Indeed, I typically only ride with the temp gauge showing. I can pretty much guess how fast I'm going and I can hear the rpm's, so to me, the most important reading is the temp.

    It will be interesting to see if the 850 and 900T will have the same significant difference in handling, from what I have experienced, the 900T with extra weight up front was more planted and was not near as twitchy and uneasy. Now that the 850 is planted in corners, will the 900T be much different? My wife has a new one coming for next year, cant wait to compare my 20!

      When are you going to come out and say it. The quirky handling is from too much forward weight bias. Ski Doo won't admit it and they keep trying to hide it with gimmicks. They want everyone to believe you have to get farther forward when too much weight is already too far in front of the sleds balance point.

    What if you used your right hand to use the knob for the gauge cluster, most people are right handed and that's the more dominant hand to use to fine tune things, I've had issues in the past using a cross side movement with knobs, this seems ideal to me as the natural movement that your arm wants to make when it's crossing over is more angled, would seem to me it would be easier as you're riding to use then your left. that said you're also taking your thumb off the throttle so you're slowing down and might as well wait till you stop to do it 🤷‍♂️

    Thanks for the review, I have the 2019 Renegade XRS bought new non current in the fall and it's been the best sled I've owned or ridden. My only complaint on the sled is the push in the corners in some conditions, so hopefully the new adjustment can help with that. I will disagree with you on one point, I find the handling very predictable and can run one handed in most conditions, although I put 3000km's on it so maybe I got used to it, who knows. (Other non handling complaints would be oil consumption and lack of standard storage)

    Another great walk around.. I like your take on the gauges when you bring up the issue with not being able to lock the engine temp on the screen. My opinion is most people typically use MPH, TACHOMETER & ENGINE TEMP as their main 3 read outs. One more issue to bring up is you guys seem to have influence on the manufacturers, why doesn’t anyone complain about how BRP continues to reduce their fuel tank capacity? Now we’re down to 9.5 gals. Do they really need to sell that many more jerry cans for their linQ system. 🥴

    • @pavmentsurfer13
      @pavmentsurfer13 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just to clarify. There IS a temp readout on the main screen at the top on the left hand side. But its a bar graph style, not an actual numerical readout, which is what I think most of us prefer.

    • @SometimeIsNow
      @SometimeIsNow 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pavmentsurfer13 Hey Luke, Yes I fully understood that.. it only has the bar graph and not the actual numeric number you can pin to the right or left of the gauge. But like in the past the higher end models from SkiDoo has always had the numeric readout with the gauge package that actually said 110 degrees and not just 3 dots.. With a XRS package you’d expect a numeric readout with actual temp instead of guessing what 3 or 4 bars actually mean for how hot your sled is getting. No comment on the slowly shrinking fuel capacity since the XS chassis? 😊

  • @mudbrats
    @mudbrats 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think if you want to run a phone/map integration then the new gauge is worth it - Its like apple or android car play on a vehicle. If you don't like tech or plugging a phone in, a rider wouldn't be able to appreciate that new gauge. Personally I ride with my iphone and map on every ride so love the new gauge - I see what you're saying about the knob angle - Polaris is using a touch screen on their new larger screen so that may be more preferred for more riders not mapping every ride.

    I have always had a love/hate relationship when it comes to these guys, but this is a good review. I must correct Luke on the spindle. They shaved it down to remove weight not a width issue. Anyway it's a good review, I have ridden it myself. I did push myself over my riding limit to see it's capabilities and if it would make me a better rider and it did. As for the gauge I have been waiting for, I agree with everything he said. It does look nice but Poo's is way better and you can change things on the screen while riding because they put the jog dial on the bars where they belong (the BRP Spyder has it on the bar as well). Not sure why it was stated you need a communicator on your helmet, I don't see how you could make a call or listen to music on the Polaris with out one as well. Not happy with the comment at 17:07 about the front end getting over worked, thats nit picking here. We are not in a race, thats not what the sports is about and we need to keep that in mind.

    • @CDX7
      @CDX7 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      SnowTrax has a particular bias. Notice the comment about how you "need both hands on the bars while cruising"? Also using words like "nervous" "twitchy" and "heavy steering". Well, that's how I set up my sleds anyways. Confidence inspiring to me is knowing the sled is going to turn when I turn the bars; Respond quickly when I lean a certain way or position my feet differently. Ski Doo's will let you dig your own grave if you are not paying attention or lackadaisically trying to ride quick. It demands attention and rewards you with active riding. You hear stories about Doo's biting you at the limit... Yeah, It's like driving an old car with no traction control and then going to a new one with a dozen electronic nannies to save you from yourself. That's how I view Polaris these days. Confidence inspiring only because it's protecting you from yourself. They are a bit numb in comparison.

    • @pavmentsurfer13
      @pavmentsurfer13 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@CDX7 Its not a bias. Its our observations and opinions after riding all of them back to back, day in and day out, season after season. Obviously our opinions cant be EXACTLY the same as EVERYONE elses. There will always be people who disagree. Ive always said, if you like the way a skidoo handles, your not wrong. You just have a difference preference that we do. But youll never convince me that words like "nervous and twitchy" arent accurate about a G4 skidoo. Not until 2021 when those words do NOT fit any more. This new front end is so stable and predictable, confidence inspiring. I love it.

    • @CDX7
      @CDX7 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Luke Lester Thanks for the response, big fan of the show for many years. Bias carries a lot of negative connotations around these topics but not my intent. Preference, perhaps? The point remains that I intentionally set up my Axys to ride like a G4 by absolutely planting the front skis and using aggressive carbides. It’s nervous and twitchy, but it corners on rails and feels more raw, alive, and fun. SnowTrax preferences against this, that’s fine, but one can infer what type of riding you guys prefer when the Axys gets so much praise for the handling. Out of the box they are floaty and numb to me and don’t inspire confidence. Just different opinions. Curious to try this new model.

    I went to the " first peek" in NH to gain some info on why I wanted to spent and additional $750+ for the upgraded screen. At this time I still use my Garmin 650T GPS . This new screen will help do away w that. BRP is coming out w an app this fall that will be like the Polaris ride command app . But up here in the NE we have extremely limited to no cell coverage. But in told this app will activate the GPS function of our phones and will always be able to be used in and out of cell service. ( Confused because Google Maps will continue to direct me on the road as long and I don't make any changes . I'd I make a change out of cell service Google will not be able to redirect me???) So I'm told the app will BT to the sled and you will be able to see the map on the right side of the screen. We will be able to look for gas , food and such in and out of service from the app. Several other features as well .But I was also told they are looking to get maps together for this app. That kinda scares me, thinking they will be working on getting maps and info after they have this new screen, not before. So by this winter will we see the maps for all areas, will they be up to date, will that have the way points and such added . I tend to always fall into to areas less detailed . So will VT, NH and ME be included and will the closers of logging trails be updated? The two guys in NH do a great job doing the map programs , often folks get mad and nasty at these guys for not updating the maps. But I'd the state or club doesn't notify of changes ,they can update any changes. Also the new glove box extension can come w a clear touch screen door that you mount you phone into that has a charger and heater . How ever if you phone is in a case it may be harder to use the touch screen cover.

    • @pavmentsurfer13
      @pavmentsurfer13 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats a tough one. The gauge doesnt do much besides look good if you dont have your phone plugged in anyway (mapping in particular) so putting your phone in the new phone holder they have for the top of the storage bin woudl give you that anyway. But, if your going to use a headset, you wont get all those additional features. If your not going to put a headset in your helmet and your not overly concerned with GPS mapping... you simply need to decide which one you like the looks of better.

    My dealer told me the GPS navigation only works with your cell phone hooked up off the ski doo App?? I said for $800 option that navigation should be like a Polaris Dash, built into the gauge, sucks you can’t see engine temp in degrees on the dash, also that dash knob location looks like it would get easily broke off if you had and oh crap moment and knee or hand smashed it, I was planning on snow checking that sled but with this Virus going around my dealer is shut down, do you know if ski doo will extend the spring order due to the virus outbreak?? The new gauge missing constant temp readout is bad. I count on my temperature readout in NH low snow conditions. I'm seriously considering a Polaris for better handling. In 2018 the etec 850 didn't drink oil. The 2019 needs filled every 3rd tank of gas. Fuel economy averages 15 mpg. Sometimes I can get 17 but breaking powder I've gotten down near 10 mpg. How's the Polaris on fuel and oil?

    • @lyleschmidt3078
      @lyleschmidt3078 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Get the polaris! I own yamaha apex and usually get between 15 to 17 mpg. My buddy's 17 switchback uses a gallon less than i do. I just bought his sled!!

    • @pavmentsurfer13
      @pavmentsurfer13 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @pavmentsurfer13
      @pavmentsurfer13 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You wouldnt ever adjust your gauges while riding, thats not the intention with the polaris guage. The idea is that you can configure all the information you want or dont want in a way that suits you best. Maybe you want to see your trip meter in big letters all the time. or maybe you want your gas gauge front and centre... Thats what the polaris gauge gives you that this one doesnt. But I dont see why it couldnt, with a few software tweaks.
