Didn't know of this and will be thinking about making one at work for next season, thanks for the idea on how to do this. With the big pin you can also use a trailer hitch tightener, I use this when towing my kayak on the trailer and cuts down on the noise.

Lol, I put one of these together and welded it up, my kid got in it to test it and it broke right away. Where the threads are cut in the end of the pipe must be weakened, that's where it broke. I was thinking if I weld a large bolt or smaller pipe into the base and then slide the longer pieces over, it might work.
I agree Mine broke twice at the "T" hitch Mount. I use all 1" pipe and fittings. The exception was the 1" to 3/4" T to fit the hitch hole. I used a 1" bolt rather than the hitch ball in this video. But the actual fitting snapped off. I may have had my angle a bit to far out. I am 210 Lb and would not hold me so beware. That said the idea is brilliant. If I can get a solid mounting point to the hitch I'd be ok.
Im sure if you were to weld the bottom fittings properly with great penetration (not the arms) it wouldnt twist on the threads with weight It would be good for 300 lbs maaaaaybe more
I've slept overnight on it three times now and it seems to be holding up fine. I'm not that big so not putting too much weight on it. But I'll keep an eye on it going forward to be safe
@@BabystepstoBushcraft I trad in the long pull as Mach as I could and I’m not big or heavy I seat to test and it broke where the trad are so I flip it around because mine was 5f with trad both side now I’m going to weld it and see what will happen.
@@liorelbaz definitely do a few spot welds. hope it works out for you. There also may be different grades of the metal fittings, so maybe see if you can find a stronger one (im not a metal expert so may not exist)
@@lowkey1969 Threaded pipe will spin and send you for a ride, screwing the ball into NPT threads on the T, 3/4 iron pipe isnt very strong etc. Would you like me to go on?

Brilliant idea. Unfortunately for me being a much heavier guy, I wouldn't trust this set up for myself. Maybe stronger poles.

Cool if your light. Imma weld up a rig out of pipe, but it will be stronger joints. rated for 450-500 lbs.

this won't work for anyone over 150 lbs
Yeah, thats what people are telling me. I'm under 150 and have slept on it many times without issue.
