Do you know why most reviews are around 10 minutes? For youtube monetization and ad revenue. However, TH-cam has lowered that time to 8 minutes, so reviews don't have to be so drawn out.

Dan is the most articulate car reviewer on the net. He has the sensibility to know what's happening on the car and the sense to explain it to the viewers in rich, easy to understand language.
About the car, if I had the money's a M3 xdrive would be mine already. So in love with these cars

Late to this comment and while I don’t think this will be able to push anywhere near the power some gtrs are at 2000+hp this car will 100% be much much much cheaper to get to around 1000hp than a gtr
Exactly my thoughts too, it ticks all the boxes that Skyline GTR had.
This was exactly my experience with the g80 m3 (rwd) model when it came out. Harsh low speed ride that settles down at speed, and auto gearbox that is great until high rpm full throttle shifts where you can tell it isn’t as fast as a DCT.
Dan is one of the best car reviewers out there. Guy always hits the 🎯

@@TML34 the 6-speed is crap in these cars, feels plasticky with long throws. I’m a manual enthusiast but even I prefer the DCT in these new M3/M4’s

As a current owner of an F80 M3 Comp your comments about it trying to kill you in slippery conditions made me chuckle as it’s spot on! (Even worse with a stage 1 Evolve tune 🤪)
Great review, Dan (as if he is going to read this lol). So much content focuses on the stuff that is obvious and usually subjective; the way a car looks, how it sounds, and how quick it is. It is refreshing to watch a review where the commentary highlights the things you could only learn from driving it properly on challenging roads.
The Touring M4x4 just became even more of a must-have. Deposit time...

Can't believe how heavy the D segment cars have become!
It's been a while since the introduction of the G8X and realise I'm still not used to the looks of the M4, not only because of the grill, but also the lack of a strong shoulder line and the Hofmeister kink.
I just got my M4 Competition Xdrive and have driven it for almost 2000 kms. Your comments are so good that I have nothing to add except that I'm madly in love with this exceptional car.
EU curb weight included 70kg for a driver and 90% of a full tank. It's 1775kg curb.
75kg added for driver and luggage.
Great review Dan. As an earlier M3 owner (e92) I know all about those cold winter moments. It's 4 wheel drive for me, there's fun and the there is trying to kill you.

agreed. did not like my f80 cs - it was just so frustrating most of the time, never could put the power down when you wanted it to... they really figured it out with these new g8x, especially the xdrive versions.
great synopsis of the xdrive characteristics... best way I can add to it is that it doesn't really take away from the RWD experience but its there when you need it/want it (ie when you would have been just been spinning your wheels or fishtailing losing speed in the RWD version). You can take corners faster and get on the gas sooner than in the RWD version and you can still have some play. Its a great system.
I am in the US so we are blessed with the manual trans. I wish we had a AWD manual car. But I am so pleased to at least have a manual at all! Wish you guys in the UK had the option!
I saw the M4 today in the same colour. Pretty badass in the flesh. Very wide!
I am starting to really like the styling of the car and the front end! It’s not a bad looking car. I think it will grow on people.
The M4 grow on me within days. It had to be different and it did it’s job. Can’t say the same thing about the m3. lol The side kills it for me with the lines going everywhere.
I think it's ugly but in 40 years people will see how unique it is. It's got character in a sea of lifeless ugly SUVs and cars.
It's basically a German Skyline, I'm in love.

100% agree with the PS4S tyre recommendation. Nobody needs Cup 2 tyres on public roads.
Great review as always. I do like the look of that with AWD. Currently have the F82 M4 Competition and I love it. Owned it just over 6 months now and it’s an unbelievable car. I think my car looks better than the new M4 too, but maybe I’m being biased.
I think BMW did the XDrive version just to prove they can make the fastest cars in straight line performance vs audi and merc if they want too. Yea its not as fun taking corners as a RWD but bmw also has 2 modes XDrive and RWD which makes it even more phenomenal
So to sum it up
The tyres are incorrect
The suspension is too hard like the old m sport on the e92
The engine is laggy
It's 78k
And the front end looks like a wrorus
Plus can you please tell me where you have to live for roads where there are no cars on them

The M3/M4 has to be the ultimate sports family saloon car, if fuel economy is the least of your priorities and you are not rich enough to afford an S class or a Panamera.
I sold my m4 because you put your foot down and the wheels just spin,wet or dry,it was pointless to have that power so after 10 months sold it,now with xdrive it's perfect.
I can imagine. I drove one as my daily car for a week and I live in California. Still wheelspun constantly. The only car that I've driven that has less grip to torque would be a narrow body dodge hellcat.

Small clarification - this is 2022 model, not 2021 as xDrive was not available for 2021 model.
I might jut get used to the looks, I might like the sound from the outside and I like the performance but the one think I cannot live with is the obvious fake sound played through the speakers. Its not even a nice sound, if you have to have to do this, why not pump run the sound from an E92 M3 or something similar that sounded awesome. If I could run it off.....I could cope with the rest perhaps

I would never buy a car in Canada without 4x4 or AWD. It is not practical. This opens up a whole new world of buyers for BMW. I am ordering an M4 with X-drive.
Old gen car just needed better tyres than the standard Michelin PSS. Coding newest software for DSC and rear diff from the later models also helps a lot. God forbid a 420+bhp front-engined RWD turbo car doesn't have traction at all times in the winter, though...

The only thing I’m not keen on is the weight, why is it soo much heavier than the outgoing car? The rear wheel drive one is almost as heavy. Is it the ZF Auto box?

The only thing here is: Mr. Prosser is telling quite boring bullshit, because he adds his own weight to weight of the car, which is totally idiotic.
Of course the M4 has 90 kilograms more weight with the driver sitting in the car. Surprise suprise...
PS: this is an "issue" in any other sports car too. Really! You can trust me...😂😂
Despite being such an effective AWD system, which of course means more weight, the xDrive adds only a few kilograms more to this car.
The only thing which matters here is EFFICIENCY of the AWD package.
And now we all know how much better the M4 with xDrive is in daily driving situations, especially at winter conditions.
There are NO downsides of this new BMW M4 AWD version at all, period!
Just forget about this stupid "weight" bullshit, because no single modern car which was peppered with additional tons of options, is a "light" car any more.

Can someone please explain to me the benefit of the Auto box over Dual clutch ?
The lack of Dual clutch is why I’ll most likely go new RS3 over M4
to first sell you the crappy auto box and then they will release a facelift with a dual clutch and pretend its something revolutionary and make double money on that "upgrade"

Even though it's been out a while now, I still can't get over that front end. The rest of it is a reasonably handsome car..... but that front..... it still hasn't got any less ugly.
I notice the grill less and less but I still find this 4 series rather ungainly still. There’s far too much metal above the rear wheels making the wheels look too small. Viewed side on I think think it looks slab sided and heavy (which it is). They’re bloody massive too.

@@DanLMH - my sister lives down at the bottom of the valley, so it’s always an extra pleasure to go visit her. Plus there’s a spectacular hair pin at the other end of the stretch seen on the video.
There’s so many great driving roads in Wales, and that’s without even venturing near the ‘evo triangle’.
@@eddie275a oh that is mega haha, what a great place to live, but I bet those roads get icy & snowy in the worst of the winter months! Yes the Evo triangle is also now full of speed cameras iirc (which obviously you wouldn't be speeding) but if you're enjoying yourself you might slip up a little (even as seen in this video DP was doing 70 in a 60😂)

I’ve done lots of roadtrips with friends into Wales and have a whole map of all the twisties (basically just all the wriggly white lines you see on maps) - but the B4560 is still a favourite as it’s literally 2mins away from my sister.
Wow this car is as heavy as the M5 CS.
Added weight and complication. Awd is used as a crux for awful drivers

My rear wheel drive f30 tried to kill me, but killed itself in the process. I miss my baby. Now I’m awaiting delivery of a 4 series xdrive.

All you need is a lighter (1400 kg max), naturally aspirated, rear wheel drive car. You certainly don't want more weight, a turbo, more electronics and a torque converter transmission. Well assuming you want to have fun of course.

Indeed what a road - I think the west coast Scotland is maybe more beautiful, but for the combination view and road Wales has it, my favourite combo of the moment ( I change my mind alot, & there's so may quality quiet roads in Wales) is B4501/B5105.

M3 comp xdrive 6mt would be the best of all worlds, but they only offer the 6mt in the "pure" non competition model which is RWD only (and not in all markets). Here in the US we have it thankfully! Next year it's on for me.
