    You really saved me a lot of trouble and money, I had a hard time figuring out how to get a 3.38 diff in my 328i. Thx you!

    Really helpful video. In the confusing situation of having a 318ti with a medium case diff but wanting to put a small case welded back in. Right mess to figure out because the previous owner is no help so cheers for this ahaha

    This swap was done on my car by the previous owner and he had hacked up the 188 flanges to make the circlip groove line up and had no axle spacers so on the first day of having the car the left output shaft just fucking snapped.
    I replaced both output shafts with untouched ones, used axle spacers and it's been fine without modifying the output shafts in any way, but my diff is an lsd so it might be different. I think the stubs do stick out a tiny bit compared to oem but honestly I know the splines are in all the way, the surface for the seal is also far enough in there, so there's no actual reason for it to go deeper, if anything it helps with the axle length difference, and since the 168 and 188 circlip grooves don't line up anyways pushing it in more isn't gonna secure more either. It also hasn't made any noise so I think that center bar we see in your open diff must be different in an lsd.
    The spacers are definitely needed tho, because otherwise you can tell it's too short and overextending the axles, plus since I didn't weld the stubs in it would pull on them and make them pop out a little bit, here since the axles are compressed they push them the stubs into the diff.

    Has anyone done a small to medium case swap on a e36 318i? Or have any tips or parts list needed for the install. Any info helps.

    • @MaxFuller

      You will need the rear half of prop shaft, diff and driveshafts from a 323 or 328 👌🏼

      Should fit fine as they are both medium case

    Wait so why would you switch to a 3.18 diff , is it stronger ?, btw great video !

    • @MaxFuller
      @MaxFuller  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s actually weaker, but you get the better ratio (3.38) for more acceleration 👌🏼 seems to be holding up ok for now tho hah thanks ☺️🤘🏼

    Would it be possible the opposite way. Small case(318is) conversation to med case diff

    • @MaxFuller
      @MaxFuller  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah but you would need to change driveshafts and rear propshaft

    I am going to this swap from 2.91 to 3.45 diff, but not welded and only using STTrackpart axle spacer 6mm is it enough? Not welding it due to install of racingdiffs lsd conversion

    • @MaxFuller
      @MaxFuller  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would recommend 10mm spacer as that is the size difference

    I have e46 325i, can i use e36 diff since in my country there is no manual e46?
    Thanks in advance 🙏

    • @MaxFuller
      @MaxFuller  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, no, they are different casing from e46 to e36, you will have to try find a diff in another country :/

    • @MaxFuller
      @MaxFuller  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m not sure, would be better to just change your shafts to medium case shafts as they are stronger than small case shafts.

      I have never done it without welding it, it should be ok if you use the spacers, if you don’t use the spacers they will pop out
