    This wrench came out beautiful, as always!!!
    Over the years that I have been following the channel (since 2016), you have inspired me to try my hand at renovating old tools that I either randomly find or specifically seek out to match some of the ones you have presented on the show if they are within my budget. Before that, I had no interest whatsoever in old tools or antique objects. I have gotten a lot of practical advice and have learned a lot of renovation techniques right here, by watching you. You have been a patient teacher and a role model to me. All I initially had in my tool box was some sandpaper and a screw driver. Over time I have acquired more tools to assist me with my renovation projects, but being paraplegic and having poor postural balance, I remain a little afraid of power tools, in particular, the flap sander. You make fantastic use of a flap sander but it scares me as I think I would lose balance and fall over if I ever handled one. I did acquire a low level dual sander and a drill press but mostly I try to imitate what you do using only hand tools that I feel I can more safely control. I do not have a wire brush set-up like yours but found that putting a wire brush in the drill press works well for me. Anyway, I try to adapt and have a lot of fun with this hobby. You have single handedly been responsible for instilling in me this wonderful hobby which has grown to become a passion. At this time of Thanksgiving, I want to give Thanks to you John, for the hard work you put into making all these videos for us to watch three times a week. You never fail to be entertaining and educational. Thank you!

      Teddy! I am so glad you are really enjoying this wonderful hobby. One tool that I don’t often show that really might help you is a hand held right angle pneumatic grinder and some Roloc attachments. The die grinder as it’s known isn’t expensive but you need a pretty good compressor to run it. Just throwing that out there in case you already have a compressor. 😂. Thanks so much!!! 😃👍

    Nice restoration. The railroad was the Chicago, Milwaukee, Saint Paul Railway, later called the Chicago, Milwaukee, Saint Paul and Pacific Railroad, also known as the “Milwaukee Road”. Well done!

    Happy Thanksgiving to all. One thing I'm thankful for, among many others, is the learning I've picked up from Scoutcrafter. Learning about tools and their proper use, as well as vintage tools and gadgets about which I didnt know anything, has been educational and alot of fun. Scoutcrafter videos are never too long. By the way, the B&C wrench turned out great as usual.

    That is also an old Railroad wrench. Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway. The Milwaukee Road. At one point, late 1970s-1990s I think they may have leased a former New York Central branch along Western edge of Indiana.

    Hey John, That wrench came out beautiful. You just got to love the ole tools. I wish that they made tools like this now a days. Craftsmanship has gone to shit, as far as I see it. There's not to many companies that care about their workmanship anymore, the only thing care about now is the bottom line, which (in my opinion) really sucks. Nice job buddy, and Happy Thanksgiving. - Later

    Just goes to show that we are all different. Beautiful work, impressive restoration, and looks, as several people have said, better than new. And now I wouldn't want to own it. All those marks where it had been used as a hammer, and the railway mark, and all the dings on the handle - those told the story of this tool, all the people who owned it and used (and abused!) it. And maybe I would have straightened up the handle, glued up the crack, and lightly sanded the wood and refinished it and left it just like you had it after the wire brush. I love the work you do - but for me, this one was better with less. But I know lots of people will disagree with me!

    • @ScoutCrafter
      @ScoutCrafter  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is no wrong answer in tool collecting, the one thing I don't usually do is restore collectable tools. I almost always take common tools and bring them back to new like condition. If you go to any tractor show there are thousands of tools in used condition just rusting away year after year forgotten and overlooked. When somebody sees how these beautiful tools looked when new it creates a totally new respect for how these were meant to look. Abused tools are only a testament to mistreatment. Unlike a wooden plane that has been worn in with hundreds of hours of correct use and the oils and sweat from the hands give a golden warm appearance, when mechanic tools are abused or mistreated that is shameful and like a scar on the tool. There are literally tons of tools with use and abuse out there getting thrown out every day because they are disgusting. However nobody would ever throw away a properly restored tool, even the layman who has no idea about tools would appreciate the beauty and lines of this wrench now. I do own a great deal of tools that are in beautiful original condition and will stay that way but beat up wrecked common tools come here to be restored and appreciated. =D
