As a younger kid, our parents didn't have a ton of money. So we had older consoles growing up, and by far my two favorites were the GBA and the GameCube
How old were you to have your parents consider the GBA and GameCube older consoles? If you were like one generation behind, then that’s not considered and older console. That’s like calling the 3ds and Wii U older consoles. Older consoles and last generation consoles are two different things.
I was born in '07 in didnt get a wii until '09. The GC and the GBA came out like 6 years prior to when i was born so yk they werent 'old' but they were old enough to where newer consoles were already coming out (for example the wii had came out in '06).
But you already could for years, with NSO. You could play the best versions of these games by playing the SNES games Super Mario All Stars, Super Mario World and Yoshi’s Island. Back in 2001-2003 it was great that we could play SNES games on the go, but these ports aren’t exactly the best versions of the games. Slowdown occured more often and the smaller resolution meant you could see less of the level in one image.
I was surprised to see the rest of the Mario Advance series come so soon. I really loved Mario Advanced 4, so I can't wait to try the rest of the advanced games for the first time.

not to disregard your sentimentality, but no, you really don't need this. you can literally already play these games but with slightly better visuals and sound on SNES online. don't waste your money, unless you intend to play the other GBA and N64 games too.
There are people who would rather play the GBA versions of the games for nostalgia purposes plus an all around better feel. I understand why you state that, but not everyone feels the same
@@Aeduo With all due respect, I'm gonna politely present my view. First, the music is still good and unique. For color palette, alright, but that's not gonna made me stop enjoying it. @@Aeduo Yeah the sound quality is one of the downsides to these versions, but I think the washed-out pallete was because the GBA didn't have a backlight, so the colors had to be brightened in order for them to be visible on the original console.

@@thinkhector I think you misunderstand me, I care not for the online service or "lobbies", I care about accessibility, being able to play whatever classic game while spending my money how I choose. These versions are REALLY cool and differ from other release. They have more voice work, Yoshi and Mario 3 Advance have extras levels. Mario 2 Advanced makes a TON of changes. And Super Mario World Advance let's you take an extra "hit" making it a little more forgiving for new players.
@@thinkhector Awesome! You know I've been wanting to play these games again too, so that'll be a nice change of pace from TOTK.
Though I wish we'd get another classic NES or N64 drop again!
I still see no Pokemon
This is the only thing I expect from my subscription 😶
Seriously where is red, blue, green, ruby, sapphire, and emerald at like come on nintendo why no mons
@@kariqdatmenace6642 ask the Pokemon Company or Game Freak why not. Nintendo doesn't own Pokemon.
@@jenerossitea9247 Oh yeah well then gamefreak stop holding ya old pokemon games hostage from us
One Pokemon just came a month ago. Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team
Ridiculous how they give the advance versions of Mario games but can't give the 3DS versions of Orcarina and Majora's mask
YESSS THE ADVANCE VERSIONS ARE WHAT I GREW UP WITH
oh it’s only for the expansion pass subscription….
I’d say honestly the expansion pass is worth it now with all these additions. And with more bang to its buck
SNES versions are available for the normal subscription and those are better anyways.
Emulate it bro.
That noise Yoshi makes when hovering on the gba version is what makes it iconic for me. Thank you Nintendo for this
I remember when I had Game Boy Advance SP, I played Yoshi Island!
They're really Advancing the Game Boy lineup well.
Except still no Pokémon...
I'd say they are taking a lot of time for the price that they charge us for, but I guess we just need to accept what we have ...
@@Jude1180 I feel like getting the Pokémon games here is not something that's going to happen (soon) since Nintendo doesn't really own Pokémon
@@Enmaphy True, true. Still disappointing though.
Thank you, Nintendo! I've been super stressed with school lately, and this made my day! :)
Super Mario Advance 2 is an absolute classic. I drained so many hours into that game. Excited to jump back in!
Give us Mother 3 already! I already played 1 & 2! They’re such amazing games! Worth the hype!
System is rated E 10 so I doubt it’s coming
@@Kourumeme So what if it's rated E-10? Any game is coming to Nintendo Switch Online, including the Japanese only games, and some Japanese games are not exactly rated E for Everyone.
@@o.h.x-9062 true. Still. I doubt mother 3 is coming
Nintendo already looked into bringing "Mother 3" out. But they can't because it is filled with tons of copyrighted music.
@@thinkhector And? What’s the big deal about the Mother 3 music? Every Nintendo music from every Nintendo game is copyrighted, yet it’s still uploaded right here on TH-cam. You need to come up with a better evidence than that.
Yoshi's Island was the first Mario game I ever played when I was like 7, and the ending always made me cry 😭
GBA version of SMB2 USA is the best one! It really feels like a true Mario game with the improvements to gameplay and sound. Looking forward to that
Even added a skid animation (when characters change directions while running) and score feature, making it feel more Mario like.
Glad to see multiple drops at once. I'd love to see the Super Peach game get dropped eventually too. I didn't get to play that when it came out because it looks girly, but in hindsight the videos of it look really fun and it is reviewed well from what I've seen.
Super Princess Peach was a DS game though, so that's probably not coming.
@@legoboy7107 It’ll probably be on the next system because I don’t see them adding any more platforms on the Switch this late in its lifespan.
@@tolstartheking Nah, with Nintendo's track record for re-release windows, we won't even have SNES games on the next console until 2034.
@@legoboy7107 you're right. I remembered wrong. For some reason I remembered that as a GBA game.
@@JudeMichaelPeterson Well, it does LOOK like a GBA game, and its art style is very strongly derived from Yoshi's Island, so I can't blame you.
The Mario Advance series was my first exposure to the Mario franchise. Glad to see these make it to the Switch!
Jesus loves you
You're part of the problem
We literally already have these available just give us Golden Sun already PLEASE
And mother 3
@@manupm9161 For real
The GBA version of Super Mario World was one of my first Mario games, and holds a ton of sentimental value to me. I've been holding off on getting the expansion pack for NSO for a while now, but honestly these new additions have convinced me. I guess you could say they're just what I needed.
not to disregard your sentimentality, but no, you really don't need this. you can literally already play these games but with slightly better visuals and sound on SNES online. don't waste your money, unless you intend to play the other GBA and N64 games too.
@@jclkaytwo do you mean emulation or snes online.
@@rickymcgruder4868 I straight up used the words "SNES online" so...
Very cool. Hopefully we get A Link to the Past & Four Swords in the future.
Yeah
Wow I can't wait to play three games that I already have available in SNES app 😱😱
Seriously, this update is basically non existent
There are people who would rather play the GBA versions of the games for nostalgia purposes plus an all around better feel. I understand why you state that, but not everyone feels the same
Great update. More updates frequently for all consoles, please. 1 weekly would be great.
Most Definitely
That's a little over optimistic but they've been doing monthly updates (for different consoles, but still)
I know it's gonna be unpopular, but it's the best version of these games!
Can't wait to replay them!
The sound quality is pretty miserable. it's even audible in this official video. also blown out color palette and zoomed in screen.
I played Super Mario Advanced 1 and 4, and yeah, surprisingly those are the best ways to play Super Mario Bros 2 and 3 imo.
@@Aeduo With all due respect, I'm gonna politely present my view. First, the music is still good and unique. For color palette, alright, but that's not gonna made me stop enjoying it. And for the crunch, this isn't Sonic Game Gear. Only noticible in Birdo fights, but it gives more challenge. So I'm not gonna change what I said, since those are minors "problems".
@@Aeduo Yeah the sound quality is one of the downsides to these versions, but I think the washed-out pallete was because the GBA didn't have a backlight, so the colors had to be brightened in order for them to be visible on the original console.
@@Aeduo still good games
Seriously Nintendo you add all 3 of these at once but make us wait for the 3rd Mario Party
They better bring out fire red
bruh
Yeah
We can already play ALL THREE of these games on normal switch online
Needs Wario Land 4 - best Mario Like game of all time!
Yeah as well as Metroid Zero Mission
I hope there will be more regular monthly gba updates. I’d like to play the GBA fire emblems and Kirby’s before my subscription runs out
I’m refusing to buy a subscription until one of those games pops up lol. They’re the only things I’m looking forward to in this expansion pack
@@YukiHitayame Well, in point of that fact, I still want Nintendo Switch to make a 25th Anniversary Mario Party game this year, so we can have the “I’m the Superstar!” voice clips from Mario Party 6, 7, 9, and 10 to come back, along with the Mic, Boss, and 8-Player minigames, and new playable characters such as Kirby, King Dedede, Meta Knight, and Bandana Waddle Dee, wouldn’t that be really nice?!
While I enjoy that they gave us these so fast….you can kinda just play the originals with no issue. And the all star versions.
But the value of NSO is definitely met with all these releases.
Fast? It's been two months Metroid Fusion was added ain't nothing fast about this
SMA1 has a ton of level redesigns and Robirdo while SMA4 has the e-Reader levels carried over from the Virtual Console version.
Cool, a bunch of games that were anyway available on other platforms on NSO
YES, these are some of my childhood favorites! I loved playing these on road trips as a kid and I would often play these on the way to school. I especially played a lot of Super Mario Advance when I first got my GBA SP. So many good memories and I can't wait to relive them on Switch!
Damn that's crazy. Anyway can we have something people are actually asking for, like Mother 3?

Yooooo let’s gooo Nintendo!
Give me fart bass or give me death!
The GBA titles were my first few games. I love them with a burning passion! Who could forget the added charm, voice lines, and added content from them?
Oh, sure. That's fine. It's not like these games were already playable on Switch with less screen crunch or anything. So what's in your next batch of GBA games? "Donkey Kong Country?" "A Link to the Past?" "Classic NES Series: Super Mario Bros?" XP
This comment may as well be a prophecy, cause that's exactly what they're gonna do 💀
Stop you'll give them ideas
I cannot wait for the eventual release is Kirby & the amazing mirror!!!!!! That's the drop I'm waiting for
Me too
Don't understand why it takes so long to put more games on these and why we don't have an option to buy individual games outright to keep forever.
The service makes A LOT sense especially for the online.
We are nearing 200 games on the service.
Now imagine if each INDIVIDUAL game had its own lobby. You would never find anyone to play with.
Look at what happened to Pac-Man 99.
@@thinkhector I think you misunderstand me, I care not for the online service or "lobbies", I care about accessibility, being able to play whatever classic game while spending my money how I choose. It's honestly stupid how Nintendo is only going down the subscription path, for Wii and Wii U, people were able to buy whatever they wished for individual prices, and still so far, both the Wii Shop and Wii U eShop always had more games than Switch Online and they added them far more frequently than they do now, getting three or more games per week as opposed to getting three new ones per 3-6 months!
Also, I do not know what Pac-Man 99 has anything to do with what I'm talking about nor do I think it is related to what I'm talking about.
Glad to see these games are coming to switch online, can't wait!
I'd really like if we had a variety of filters for these older games. Some filters on emulators can make these games look really good
Smooth pixels are ugly.
@@tolstartheking sweet...
We should not be paying a monthly cost for an expansion pack😂 nintendo, you really be robbing everyone for things that should already be free to play. Let this be free for EVERYONE.
Totally agree
Mario Mania on GBA haha. All advance games at the same time is so cool
Why would you want to play GBA ports of SNES games?
Agreed
To be fair, Yoshi's Island GBA has 6 more levels than the SNES version.
Because they have added some extra stuff to them
Okay now where's Galaxy 2 port for the switch?
Thank you Nintendo.First the super Mario bros movie then Tears of the kingdom, now this.Your so good to us.❤
Ok? 3 games that are already on this service? Twice in the case Mario 2 and World both of which are better versions. Like Mario 3 I understood because that has new levels but these are just the same games with worse resolution, sound and colours. You really couldn't have given us Golden Sun instead?
