I am grateful for this video. My mother grew up in Berlin during WWII and even though I have been there several times in my life, the last time was about 35 years ago (I was 15 years old.) As you can imagine, it was a very different place back then. It is good to see that city (and country) united again and healing. And I am also grateful that you and others were able to experience the in-person event, and that you were able to document the experience meaningfully. But, with that being said...it doesn't change the fact the vast majority of the people that play this game cannot and probably will not ever be able to afford and travel to an in-person event like this one. It also doesn't change the fact that the global event was a complete disaster for the majority of people who paid for it. It's hard to be grateful for a game that saves the best for the people who have the most resources and money, and for a company that won't even say that they are sorry to the majority of the people that play this game for the one event that most of us could play being such a disaster.

Niantic stated that the low shiny rate during global Go Fest was because too many shiny pokemon degrade the game and they talk about keeping a level playing field then I watch a dozen videos from Berlin where people playing casually get more shiny snorlax that I was able to get total shiny pokemon from two days of hard grinding. I am not knocking Berlin or the people attending, I wish I could have been there with you, it looked amazing, but only a small % of the player base are able to attend these things and I don't understand why we couldn't all have had such an amazing experience on a global scale followed by these extra special events for the people able to get there.

Thank you Nick, for your cognitive adversarial relations concerning our worlds history. The way you promote reality in your adventures is absolutely admirable. Keep exploring my guy. Much respect.
I feel more and more lately Niantic becoming more selfish as a company, focusing on mainly content creators and city based player where as more and more now rural players getting left behind. I understand that in gofest would have better spawns, but again more then 60% of players most likely can’t just leave everything behind for a game. I live in Sydney, Australia where my regional Pokémon has been featured around the world multiple times and yet we’ll most likely never get a in person gofest ever. Lately Niantic have upped the price of remote raid passes, decreased the incense ability, decreased the items in the 1 pokecoin bundle, increased most rare Pokémon behind a paywall that without the free remote raid now, most of us rural players will never be able to get. I understand content creators vs city players vs rural was never going to be even, but it feels like more and more lately Niantic are forcing the rest of the player base to look at what the more privileged are able to obtain and are like ‘deal with it’.
Remember, Niantic sells players' locational data. In-person events are very valuable to them because they can sell it to tourism bureaus. If they can't sell your data, they don't need you to play. Who would buy locational data from a rural area? Sorry to say -- nobody. The dataset is too small.
I lived in Germany as a kid from 1983-1989. The wall was still up when my dad got stationed to Ft. Knox and we left Germany. It is, indeed, surreal that you can just cross over where the wall once stood.
Beatiful video Nick, one of your best yet imo. Really moving stuff and beautiful camerawork. Incredibly inspiring and made me really re-evaluate things for a bit. It's important to focus on what unites us and brings us together, not what divides us. And to stay humble and thankful for the time we have to enjoy experiences like pokemon go and the cool places it can take you.
I actually enjoy that you enjoy the history of places more than the rest of the crew. When I go to different places I’ve never been to big giant thing of what I like to do is doing the history of the area. Pretty much what I did the five years I lived in Los Angeles.
I am watching this video from Berlin. I live not far away from that Checkpoint Charly. I am really moved by your words from your experience in Berlin. I did see you during the Go Fest on Friday like 5 meters apart. It makes me really happy because of how and what you felt during Go Fest and being around in the city of Berlin.
you really highlighted what the game is actually about. going outside and exploring the world TOGETHER. I'm in awe how you let sink in everything the world has gone through, and in some parts even is still going through, has lead to everything we can now enjoy together. which, imo, is the true purpose of the game.
Good video, I may never make it over there and it was nice to see the scenery. It is awesome to be somewhere with such history and enjoying it with friends. You are the first content maker I ever watched regarding Pokémon, appreciate your insights and just being a decent person

Great video 👍 I had the same reaction when I visited Berlin for a run a few years back - so grateful for the freedoms we get to enjoy,, freedoms denied to so many
I lived in Berlin from 1976 to 1980, I traveled through Checkpoint Charlie and Bravo numerous times into Eastern Berlin. I stood on many observation decks and towers along that wall looking over at 'the other side' for hours. To see the color, growth, change of that place filled me with a lot of emotion and memories. I can appreciate the quiet respect needed to visit and observe what once stood as a barrier between those two worlds. To see that it look 'bright' and 'normal' fills me with joy for the German people...whom I always found were a wonderful people. Ich bien ein Berliner!
"To even have the opportunity to play the game is a privilege we can't take for granted." Yes absolutely! Now if only we could say the same for disabled folks who want to play it.
I cannot agree more, with what you said about the memorial, I visited there with a local and it really opened my eyes to a lot of things, like just how lucky we are to be able to go freely and live freely, I felt a sense of gratefulness and just being thankful for how certain things unfolded. Never take anything for granted
Thanks for this awesome video man! I understand the hate of the bad shiny rates at global Go Fest but this video is a wonderful reminder that no matter how many shinies you get, Pokemon Go is all about having a good time together. Which is why i love this game so much
This video made me tear up. Such a powerful presence coming through just the video, I couldn’t imagine what it was like being there. May my trip to Germany come soon. Awesome video Nick 👍
Incredibly done. A perfect encapsulation of using a game to make a deep connection to people and places. So nice to see you happy and back in your element of travel, discovery, and community. Thanks for all that you do to take us with you in these amazing journeys.
Thank you for talking about Berlin as a city! Really enjoyed hearing a little about your experience and learning a bit about our history, very much appreciated to not only focus on PoGo
awesome to see all the Pogo Tubers back out adventuring around the world again. Makes me more excited to play. I will be playing for the first time out of the country next month and will be in London on Community Day.
I don't understand why the shiny rate is bad in global go fests 😂 why can't we have community day odds which the in person go fests like this one has apparently this is my main issue here you get me?
community day odds would be terrible, I don't know why the in person fests are like that. The whole point of shinies is being rare, making them 1/25 completely gets rid of that. 1/64 is much better
@@MrZorx75 so you don't like community day shiny odds huh? 🤣 also they're still quite hard to find anyways even on community days nothing is guaranteed there
@@maganhassan2627 I really don't, like I don't need to get 50 shinies in one day, they're annoying to transfer and it gets rid of excitement unless one has good IV
This would be awful. You must not understand how the “wow” factor works. The shiny rate in global go fest is not bad. It’s actually boosted to around 1/75. I still got over 40 shinies that weekend. How many did you get?
Particularly horrifying to me was that the division was put into place almost overnight. They tore up streets and erected barbed wire from midnight until early morning, leaving people to wake up and find they could no longer visit their families or go to work.
Hey Nick, Chris from Germany here. Follower since your first video. Love your content. You know the sad thing in Germany is, even after 30 years without the Wall, lots of people are still divided in their heads. Still a lot of differences in east and west. But anyway, we live now, love to see the go fest, as i had Not participated myself.
It was nice meeting you and end up in your video (the one with the London Pikachu blue t-shirt). I visited the same location Checkpoint Charlie, the Wall and the Brandenburg Gate at night straight after Saturday go fest. After learning it at school and actually seeing the locations, it made going to Berlin worth the trip. If it wasnt for Pokemon Go Festive, i probably wouldnt have gone. Go out and explore.
I love your content! As a german it feel a bit overwhealming seeing you guys silent and being just respectful, open minded, appreciating history, just breathing und in the importance of those places and realizing that nothing is for granted. Especially in these scary days. All this combined with this friendly, bringing people together, having fun together game. Please don't stop. You make me want to explore so much more. All the best for you!
I do understand that in person should be a different experience but it goes what they said about making Pokémon shinies not valuable, anything you pay for like an event you should be boosted
Also one of niantic’s biggest things is inclusiveness, allowing more people to participate in the Pokémon go experience. Yet they do so many things that go against it.
@@maganhassan2627 oh they said in an article that they nerfed the rates for shiny Pokémon on gobal gofest saying it ruins the value of shiny Pokémon , but yet In person gofest they aren’t nerfed idk If that’s more clear
My mother was born in Berlin in 1936, so she went through all the atrocities of war. At one point she was visiting a little friend in her apartment building who was Jewish when Hitler’s goon squad came for that little girl’s family. Only my grandmother’s screaming and providing papers stopped them from taking my mom along with the family. It still haunts her wondering about her friend. (Mom has been a US citizen since 1973.) We went to Berlin in 2011 to celebrate her 75th birthday and meet cousins she hadn’t seen since that wall went up. We stood at that same piece of wall where you were, Nick. I remember completely breaking down at that moment. Watching your video evoked those same intense emotions. I’m glad you took the time to experience the city, and gave it the respect it deserves. ❤️ Thank you for all you do!
Can't wait to see you all in Seattle. Amen to the communities built through this game. Regardless of frustrations with Niantic, it's a pretty sweet community. And specifically the community you have developed because of the quality human you are.

This is, hands down, the best video you’ve ever shot, at least for me. The history in that city. It’s a great reminder that division never solves anything. ❤️❤️❤️
Tom being quiet must've been an out of this world experience 😯 I was at the Berlin GO Fest, I swear I could hear the man scream and shout throughout the whole park 😂
The in person GoFest already had the advantage of being able to stay in specific biomes or areas to hunt specific shinies. The fact that they also seemed to have totally different (better) shiny rates in addition to that is absolute bs. Niantic doesn't want spoofing, but wants to heavily promote regional events that are inaccessible to the majority of the player base. Makes sense. 🙄🙄
@@lopoa126 Lmao entitlement, right... Here's the deal, no one is "entitled" to anything in this game. But Niantic has set a precedent with past ticketed events, including the global GoFest from the past couple years. Once you set the standard for what to expect from a paid event, and that event falls WAY short of expectations (as stated by a vast majority of the people who played it), you have a problem. That's why Fyre Fest never happened a second time lol. Entitlement would be people suggesting that only those with the means to go to these remote GoFests deserve the coolest sh**. And for the record, at least one prominent TH-camr (not Nick) has essentially hinted at that.
They just needed more pokemon that could be shiny at the global. 20+ speices couldn't be shiny at this years global they were all over the place. Not to mention the spawn bug where the pokemon would stay on screen even after they despawned. of course they fixed that bug in time for this one lol could not imagine how this event would have been with that bug.
Shinies are supposed to be extremely rare. Niantic must keep the game in line with other Pokémon games. The chance for getting shinies in Go has been way higher than any other game to the point they’re meaningless. I’m glad to see them reel it in a bit.
I was in Berlin last summer and it is truly surreal walking around the monuments. The contrast between that history and the event must have been quite striking. Thanks for taking us along, as always =)

@@Iamonepercent It is sadly true. Mostly because Niantic generally doesn't care about anyone outside the big first world cities

What a wonderful video, Nick. And honestly, you should consider working in film in some capacity. Your cinematography and imagery is always so breathtakingly striking!
This was far more wholesome than I expected. Loved it!
They definitely should have mentioned that the m in-person Go Fest will have the normal shiny rates while global will have horrible shiny rates. Them hiding this fact until after the event is shady af and left most us feeling scammed.
@@MetalHeadWorshipLeader Second This!
i played 14 hours in global gofest and got 2 shinies.. it checked over 1800 pokemons
@@MetalHeadWorshipLeader i couldnt believe that Mystic7 got like 30 something shinies, i was so jealous 😂 at least i got a random shiny numel with pvp IVs 3 days ago 😏
I got 39 shinies during this year's global go fest: 26 day 1 and 13 day 2. I thought I did bad cos i got more last year but apparently i was luckier than most people this year

I really like watching your travel vlogs because you show so much appreciation for the culture and the history of the places you visit. Thank you for sharing it with us.
This video inspires me to travel more and experience the great places and people around the world! It's always a joy to watch your videos! Keep it up:)
This was amazing. Thanks for taking the time to slow pan over some of the info panels, it was so interesting to see the images and read the information.
Great video. I really appreciate that you take the time to really explore the places you visit. And share with everyone. It’s not just about the game. And pretty cool to see my photo in the montage at the end!
Woah, total honesty, I haven't finished you video yet. I had to stop at your Berlin wall crossing at the ~5min mark to stop and comment. Thank you for respecting and honoring the change in times. Thank you Nick, for your cognitive adversarial relations concerning our worlds history. The way you promote reality in your adventures is absolutely admirable. Keep exploring my guy. Much respect.
This is a very heartfelt video. The whole walk through the wall and memorial gave me goosebumps. Thank you for sharing the moment Nick
😘💞💕
Love this n I agree 2000% 😆 🤣 👍
Couldnt have made it more clear
Uhh lately?
Remember, Niantic sells players' locational data. In-person events are very valuable to them because they can sell it to tourism bureaus. If they can't sell your data, they don't need you to play. Who would buy locational data from a rural area? Sorry to say -- nobody. The dataset is too small.
Nick you been killin it recently, so consistent man. keep it up for real brother
Awesome video man... didn't even know that happened
Videos from this trip have been some of your best ever!
Yep, 100%
Totally agree. He takes time to enjoy and learn something about the places he goes to.
Such a great message in this video. Thank you for sharing your experience, Nick!
Absolutely wonderful video Nick. It’s nice to see genuine emotions, especially regarding the topic ❤️ much love
Your video editing and commenting all about this was super moving. Specially coming from a period of mandatory lockdowns.
you really highlighted what the game is actually about. going outside and exploring the world TOGETHER.
Great, a bit moving video!
Likeable, honest, humble guy - this was not the last video i watch for sure!
Love this video and shows what it's all about chur, the ppl you meet IS and the places are the real meaning of in person pogo chur, thank you for the excitement and fun you bring on your adventures. Keep up the great and amazing adventures
one of the best Pokemon go videos I've seen very moving and inspirational look forward to the next and I hope to meet you at a meet and greet one day x
This might be your best video yet, it was an awesome watch especially with the historic part!
Really love seeing your growth as a content creator. From the days of Hawaii with the family to now exploring the world by yourself, it is amazing. I hope other content creators and people can grow and produce such inspiring content. You have gone from wanting to be the voice for others to being a voice for yourself.
Thank you so much for honouring the historic events that happened here, it means a lot
I have been watching you for years and this is my favorite video from you yet!
Wow, this really is one of the best Videos you shared with us, thank you so much! Sending you Lots of love and appreciation ❤️
What an incredible video, thank you for sharing your experience walking through such emotional history with us.
This video touched me again. You make the Best videos.
definitely got chills watching your experience at the former site of the Berlin wall. amazing!
Great video 👍 I had the same reaction when I visited Berlin for a run a few years back - so grateful for the freedoms we get to enjoy,, freedoms denied to so many
While I agree in person events are a great a lot of us don’t have the resources to jet set around the globe 🌎
"To even have the opportunity to play the game is a privilege we can't take for granted."
Yes absolutely!
I have missed going on these virtual adventures with you. This was awesome!!! 🎉
@@comoplaysdestiny5106 it's a paid event where they said the shiny odds were supposed to be good you both sound like clowns.
You never fail to show authenticity in your work. You are an inspiration to so many! :)
You have such a good energy, and it's always inspiring to see you travelling and giving us your positive perspective ❤
Particularly horrifying to me was that the division was put into place almost overnight. They tore up streets and erected barbed wire from midnight until early morning, leaving people to wake up and find they could no longer visit their families or go to work.
Niantic did us dirty with global Go fest..🥴
I definitely feel like this is one of my favorites of all of nick’s videos. Good job nick!
Me 2, first time in Berlin. First pokemon go fest in a new city. Loved every moment
Cant wait to see each other again in Seattle! I’m so glad you’re had a great time
Hey Nick, Chris from Germany here. Follower since your first video. Love your content. You know the sad thing in Germany is, even after 30 years without the Wall, lots of people are still divided in their heads. Still a lot of differences in east and west. But anyway, we live now, love to see the go fest, as i had Not participated myself.
Fantastic montage of the city, great commentary on the history. You are ao much more than just a PoGo content creator
I think you forgot the word "against".
@@PSYCHOV3N0M my bad 😭
Also one of niantic’s biggest things is inclusiveness, allowing more people to participate in the Pokémon go experience. Yet they do so many things that go against it.
I don't understand what you're on about 😂
@@maganhassan2627 oh they said in an article that they nerfed the rates for shiny Pokémon on gobal gofest saying it ruins the value of shiny Pokémon , but yet In person gofest they aren’t nerfed idk If that’s more clear
Thank you for this. Loved seeing how you explored Berlin.
I want to make a PokemonGo related video here in Zaragoza where I live, it has the best place to farm. I'll let you know haha I'm so grateful for your amazing content and you inspire me to travel and film. And I'm grateful that I got the opportunity to see you again, Nick, and that I got to be in your video. Wish you all the best for your new adventures!! Hope to see you again soon! 🥰💜
This is, hands down, the best video you’ve ever shot, at least for me. The history in that city. It’s a great reminder that division never solves anything. ❤️❤️❤️
Honestly…the like nick Pogo Videos to heart but when he does the more historical videos are always best showing the historical aspect of the country
Tom being quiet must've been an out of this world experience 😯
I was at the Berlin GO Fest, I swear I could hear the man scream and shout throughout the whole park 😂
Glad you enjoyed your time in our capital Berlin AND got to learn and appreciate it's historical background and value.
amazing video Nick! this content is another level.
People with your entitlement are the problem
Thank you for always making your videos about more than just Pokemon GO, while still focusing on Pokemon GO (if that makes any sense). 💖
They just needed more pokemon that could be shiny at the global.
20+ speices couldn't be shiny at this years global they were all over the place.
Not to mention the spawn bug where the pokemon would stay on screen even after they despawned.
of course they fixed that bug in time for this one lol
could not imagine how this event would have been with that bug.
Evolved forms definitely but I think the bad shiny rate & incense bug were the main problems to this global go fest
Shinies are supposed to be extremely rare. Niantic must keep the game in line with other Pokémon games. The chance for getting shinies in Go has been way higher than any other game to the point they’re meaningless. I’m glad to see them reel it in a bit.
Lol the main games don’t sell shinies to the person who pays the most. That argument flew out the window awhile back.
@@brandonaston2261 you're acting as if the shinies are guaranteed if you buy the ticket or pay more money on something 🤣
@@maganhassan2627 just watched a video demonstrating better rates.
HuR dUr DuR
Damn you brought a tear to my eye with the tribute shots and music good job
Great video and a powerful message. Well done Nick, hope to get an opportunity to say hello in Seattle.
If niantic just says “shiny rates won’t be as boosted” boom problem solved anyone who does participate knows what they’re getting in to
I was in Berlin last summer and it is truly surreal walking around the monuments. The contrast between that history and the event must have been quite striking. Thanks for taking us along, as always =)
I so appreciate your perspective on travel, history and gratitude 🥰
Beautiful video nick! I really thought you weren’t going to finish that research 🤣
