Great review, thanks! Yes, this is pretty disappointing, especially with how they're getting rid of the thigh swivel. This went from being a no-brainer to 'maybe.'
Wow... that is disappointing. This figure looks pretty good but it seems to be incredibly fiddly - and that shoulder bell is just unacceptable. You may very well have gotten a funky one. Glad I only ordered one for now. Thanks for sharing!
just for anyone watching there is a swivel just above the knee, but as it is the same light grey plastic it looks like one solid piece. It may be stiff but I found if you brace each side of the knee peg with your finger and turn it will swivel. Also while it sucks that there’s such poor quality control and you shouldn’t have to Customise a figure just for it to be playable, I Glued the shoulder pads to the arm like the 2020 clone mold and glued the effects pieces to the staff. Now they are really fun to use and not as finnicky, especially if you get lucky and pick up a droid with more balanced friction in the joints
Kind of expected some of those issues when I saw the design, but those shoulder pauldrons looks annoying. Hope it’s not a widespread issue. But Ahsoka is definitely the one I’ve been wanting to see the most to I can’t wait to see her review. She looks amazing.
Is really a shame about the magna guard. They are supposed to be an imposing and agile droid. The height and bulk just looks wrong to me next to the b1
I was gonna display mine next to Grievous anyway, so at least they can bond over how unmanageable both of those figures are. Still gonna get one given how essential they are to the separatist forces
someone in my fb group already broken the knee joint, said the plastic was too soft. also very dissapointed that its short, shouldve been at least the same height as battle droid or even taller. im fearful that the new superbattle droid will have the same issues
@@hanif-pl5hd I don't see that happening. Bandai model doesn't release many Star Wars action figure kits and the Magnaguard has not been featured in any recent media.
Noooooo! That's too bad. Also, agreed, it seems a tad short compared to Dooku and the B1. I double checked the wiki and they should all be the same height. So that's a bummer.
Recently I rewatched Clone Wars and now I want to get a Count Dooku and a couple of Magnaguards, but from seeing the video they don’t look the best without head piece, so I’ll think about it, still cool figure Edit: now that I think about it, this reminds me of the vintage series magnaguard, just slightly better
Got this figure today. Softgoods kinda feel cheap, and the joints can be stiff. The head is ridiculously hard to remove and harder to put back on. The head wrap sculpt is also insanely hard to take off and put back on, which is worrisome when the plastic feels like it can tear if you apply enough pressure. The legs are a huge problem when they come warped in two different ways, becoming hard to correct its posture. All in all, $27 before tax and shipping is too much. The shoulder pads really don’t like to stay on either, they would fall off each time I touched the figure. Should’ve been sold for half that price with all these glaring issues/flaws. That being said, after using some hot water, I was able to straighten out the legs enough to get him in relatively natural poses. Good articulation, and great mold for the figure; just REALLY needed more R&D. They had YEARS to get this right.
my main issue is how small it is, but also those feet suck as well as the pauldrons, oh and the wrist being so hard to swivel. but i think its still worth picking up like 2 or 3 they look very cool and just knowing how menacing they are in the show i love them
I’m glad I just ordered one Magnaguard to start with. I think that’s all I want. Mine had a few of the narrower parts of the limbs slightly bent. I think I’ll get it into some kind of decent pose and leave it alone. Thanks for the review.
Ahh man, while I was initially annoyed at myself for not preordering this one, I'm happy to just wait now that I've seen your review. This figure is a prime example of why hasbro should be putting stands in with these figures.
Great review - shame these have a fair amount of issues, it's such a cool design. Still gonna get a couple to flank Grievous, but I imagine I won't mess with them much and the they'll just stand there on the shelf.
Thanks for the review Luke, the Magnaguard definitely looks good but it is unfortunate to hear the issues it has, still gonna pick up two of them because I can’t go without Magnaguards on the shelf but this will definitely limit how many more I would have gotten.
Man where do I start with this figure. I got it a few weeks ago as Hasbro Pulse Malaysia was already shipping the wave out. I've been collecting Black Series for three years and this was the first figure I broke (and subsequently bought another one to replace it). It felt like they put a swivel right below the knee and due to the flexibility of the material, it felt like there was one and it was just stuck, so I ended up twisting it not realising I was tearing it off. Didn't even know there were swivels above the leg joints and in the arms because I was so scared of breaking it further, and I didn't even attempt to remove the cape and headwrap because of that. There's just something about the figure that feels fragile and uncomfortable to handle, and just like the B1 droid it has a habit of shelf diving. Usually I keep new figures at my desk for a while so I can fiddle with them between doing things, but with the magnaguard I spent most of that time just keeping it in one pose and putting it back up when it falls over. Glad you made this review as you've articulated my gripes with it better than I could so people who haven't gotten the figure yet know what to expect from it. On the bright side, the figure at least looks really good and has a shelf presence.
Oh that's a bummer. I was really excited from the promo pics making it look very posable. I'll have to get one just because I love droids, and those staffs are cool
I ended up picking this up recently from Zing (Australia) and found mine had it’s left arm rotated the wrong way (kinda looks like he’s is too tbh), it’s left leg had deformed due to how it was secured in the cardboard (it is a pretty hot Aussie summer so not too surprising), and it’s shoulder cape was rotated a but too far behind itself (was a super fiddly to rotate it the right way). Regarding the staffs; if you watch EP3 you can actually see MagnaGuards (on the Invisable Hand and on Utapu) use both kind of staffs and the electric effects trigger just before the bulbs or spikes.
The cape swap....chef's kiss. I thought this figure when I saw it first announced looked either rushed or cheaply made. Disappointing. Thanks for the review.
Ive got a pre order on this..hope its just a one off problem..we shall see..my Grevious figure was so bad that his leg snapped( but fixed )..nice to nice to know the HK will have a staff now..cheers🍺🍺🍻
The magnaguard is seen in both blue and in white in revenge of the sith. You can also see the 2005 figure comes in both white/gray and the blue version. Idk why people immediately jump to saying it’s not from revenge of the sith.
The pauldrons are a menace, I’ve already lost one of them but thankfully the cape can cover the exposed shoulder. A positive of the figure is the spare electrostaff, which fits nicely with an HK droid to stage a duel with Ahsoka.
I got the Magnaguard From GameStop and you were right the Shoulder Robot pad thingy whatever they do pop off so do you think I should hot glue it Or what Do I do?
I hate the ankles. I've been having that issue with a lot of my Black Series lately, as well as my Marvel Legends. It either locks too far forward or too far back and makes it so difficult to try and just get a normal vanilla pose.
Hopefully it isn't a super wide spread issue with the shoulder pads. The scaling does look a tad off, but then again it could be that we're dealing with a 12th of the full scale and it's just difficult to tell. I will say the plastic cape doesn't look great on the magnaguard! Not just because the design isn't on it, but it just looks off with the neck hole being too wide. Plus, soft goods are better for more posing.
@@LandspeederLuke it definetly is, though if it happens to me, I might glue them hinged outward or I might try to mod the pegs. While it is annoying for the shoulder pads to pop off, it's better than them breaking off. Also, I recommend using hot water to loosen the ankles or use some silicone shock oil.
I have a question: Would this magnaguard figure scale better with SH figuarts than with the black series line? I know it's underscaled for the black series, but the SH figuarts line and the model kits tend to be slightly smaller. This is the only magnaguard figure in the 6 inch scale and the 3d printed version is unfortunately made from the TCW animated template.
Excellent pickups of the new black series star wars figures keep collecting and may the force be with you all star wars fans the force is strong with this one landspeeder luke
Hello Luke thanks for sharing your thoughts on the new Magna Guard figure. I've got two of these figures on preorder and I had high hopes for the look and scale of these droids. These sound like a headache and a half to pose and just stand up. For myself I'll probably just glue the shoulder pads on my figures and not have to worry about it anymore. The scale definitely looks off, too short. As someone else commented they were probably scaled to stand with General Grievous or that is how they will look the best. At least I can put them next to my Walmart Clone Wars Grievous and they'll look better. Thanks again Luke for your review of this figure, I'll have to see him in person but sounds like a big disappointment. Take care my friend, Tom
Some issues but doesn’t kill it for me , I actually think there are more issues with the b1 battle droids but I still got five of those lol nice review man , jealous you got these so early
A shame it has issues posing and standing. I like the look of this droid. The soft goods cape looks pretty good. Re: the shoulder pad falling off. Does it need to articulate? If not then maybe superglue it to the ball joints. If it does need to tilt then possibly smear a fine layer of superglue onto the ball pegs to thicken them and make them tighter.
That shoulder pad issue is going to be very annoying if it’s a problem on every copy of the figure since black series are always my go to figures to leave out on my desk and pose cause of how durable they are. Honestly might just be worth it to glue it in place cause it doesn’t seem to give much more articulation when you move the shoulder up anyways since the bottom of the pad runs into the bicep.
Two of mine just came in today and yeah, same problem and same idea occured to me. As long as you glue them tilted down you won't lose any articulation that wouldn't have just popped them off anyways.
Just seeing the title and thumbnail made my heart sink. Was really looking forward to this, but it feels like it needed another pass in the design phase to iron out the kinks. The shoulders are extra annoying, because it's not like they had to go full SHF with them to get them out of the way. Other lines manage just fine. But the ankles... that's kind of inexcusable. McFarlane ankles aren't even that bad, and their ankles are kind of a meme for how awkward the indents are. It would've taken seconds to add another "position" to the ankles. The wrists just push it over the line to "wait for a sale" for me. Really disappointing.

That’s my plan too
we need Bandai to put out some model kits
