THE MUNSTERS THEME was written by Jack Marshall, a guitarist who forever gave The Munsters a place in surf music history.
This is quite possibly one of the greatest theme songs of all time.

Many classic TV shows have lyrics for their themes. The producer received an extra cut of the profits if he contributed lyrics -- which per contract law are considered "creative content" on his part -- whether or not they were actually used. With ST: TOS and Hogan's Heroes, for instance, it's best nobody ever heard them in first run. I believe the "McHale's Navy" theme has lyrics, too.

II was born in 1978. I have watched and watch this classic television show! I love this theme song, and this is the first time I have heard the lyrics! I wish the lyrics had been included in the original series! I love it! Thank you for posting and sharing this! I love the music and the lyrics!

Herman from the series later played the judge in the movie My Cousin Vinny where he had the famous line "What's a Ute?" Which is a Youth or a Utah Ute. Never mind all that the theme song was great never knew it had words.

Great theme song. Imaginative lyrics. Perfect in everyway. Thanks 1964 tv audience for having the patience for opening theme songs. Modern folks do not realize the possible classics like this we are missing due to our limited attention span.
The original theme for the show didn't even have lyrics. It was just 44 seconds. And what are you talking about? Pretty Little Liars, Game of Thrones, The Fosters, etc. They all have theme songs around that same span of time.
+Bianca Gray A 22 minute program has no time for full-length theme songs. Many TV Themes turned into pop hits and sold millions of records. Most of them had lyrics when they were composed. I can't imagine ALL theme songs to be full-length with lyrics each time a show is broadcast on TV. Have some common sense!

Many shows, as the seasons progressed, would cut the original theme even shorter, to either sell more ads, or add more time to the actual episode. (Usually by listing the credits during the opening scene.)

The first autograph that I ever acquired was Pat Priest Marilyn Munster my mother help me write a letter to her in the fall of 1965 and she sent me a sheet sized headshot that was autographed. I was 9 years old and was thrilled to get it because I thought she was so pretty

Beverley Owen (the original actress who played Marilyn for the first 13 episodes) died 6 months ago yesterday. May she R.I.P. Now the only remaining main cast members are Pat Priest (Owen's successor) and Butch Patrick (Eddie).

Don't think I've ever heard this with vocals before. A number of of TV themes had lyrics that we never heard, like "Fishin' Hole," from The Andy Griffith Show" and the theme from Bonanza. Somewhere out there is video of the original cast from Bonanza singing the song.
Rozalin Shadowheart Yup! It is called Fishing Hole actually sung by Andy Griffith on one of his albums back in the day. I am sure it can be found on here somewhere. Another theme song that has lyrics is M*A*S*H which is called Suicide Is Painless which is actually somewhat a depressing song from Johnny Mandel

MerlinsDragon1970 I looked that up, and the Bewitched theme was an original song written for the show by Jack Keller, with lyrics by Howard Greenfield. Although the lyrics were never used in the show, IMDb says that several singers recorded the song including Steve Lawrence and Peggy Lee.
Awesome! I myself will have to check that out. Peggy Lee was a helluva singer back in the day... She was the original artist for "Why Don't You Do Right" from Who Framed Roger Rabbit" although Amy Irving (source: movies.stackexchange.com) made it famous by slowing down the beat and making it sexy sounding style. Peggy Lee's original version was very upbeat and up-tempo style. Wasn't the words to Bewitched featured in the movie? I have not seen it in years even though I own it, and seem to remember them at a casting celebration party and the words was sung by a Frank Sinatra style singer, might have been Jack Keller as you just mentioned himself.

I don't think 🤔 that I have ever heard this song with lyrics before. Eddie was always the creepiest character to me. Marilyn was supposed to be "Hot," but I liked Lily better! I think 💭 it's the eyes? Grandpa was just goofy, but the Dragula and Koach were THE CARS!! And Herman had the weirdest grin that was just strange and sinister all at once! Loved the Fire Breathing Dragon 🐉🐲 under the stairs! But the theme song was always cool 😎!!

This is the original for the TV show. Yes they has some of the lyrics on the end credits, but not all episodes just a few rare ones when the TV show like the special episodes and the single final color season.
