PHILADELPHIA, USA - Today we’re going to Angelo's Pizzeria, one of the best restaurants in Philadelphia to eat pizza, cheesesteaks, and hoagies all at one place. They also have chicken parm and meatball subs, which I would have loved to try, but they didn’t have them the day we went.
Sarcone's Bakery (goo.gl/maps/jL...) - But first, we headed over to Sarcone's Bakery, one of the great bakeries in Philadelphia. They bake a variety of different daily breads and goods, and they also have pizza, which is very bread focused and delicious. JL and I started with a slice of pepperoni pizza. We also tasted their hoagie rolls.
Sarcone's Bakery is located just down the road from Angelo's Pizzeria, and they also have a family connection.
Angelo's Pizzeria (goo.gl/maps/zy...) - Angelo's Pizzeria is one of those places that no matter what they cook and serve, they perfect, and if somethings not right for the day, they don’t sell it. Today, they had the full range of pizza, hoagie sandwiches, and amazing cheesesteak, and we ordered them all. The kitchen was neatly arranged, with each station specialized in each dish. The hoagies are some of the best you’ll have in Philadelphia, the pizza is out of control delicious and some of the most bubbly puffy pizza I’ve ever tried, and the cheesesteak was among the best quality and tasting cheesesteak I had in Philly.
It was another meal of outstanding iconic Philly food!

Everytime I feel down or tired from work and college, I always watch food videos, especially yours. It encourages me to go back so I can earn more money to eat these beautiful foods.
Completely agree with your comment, this food looks so delicious that it inspires me to go to work and study to earn money, and God willing I will go to Philly and try all this food. Speaking of Mark's videos, they are very good, because each scene has that magic that makes you taste the same food, and the way it looks is appetizing. I hope you can see their Mexican Food Videos, because you will work in the third potential, and this is real because for me Mexican food is the best and it is for all tastes, apart from the fact that it is very cheap.

Angelos is like a 5 star restaurant… their food is phenomenal… their baking ability is what sets them apart… everything is just fresh and cooked to perfection

I've never been to Philly, but here in Portland, Oregon back in the 90s we had a dude from Philly who had a restaurant: Tony's Fat Pie. He introduced me to the quintessential cheesesteak. It looked just like that. The bread formed a tube filled with steak and cheese.
A couple years in, he told me: "I had to go to my bakery here and knock their heads together 'til they got the bread right." Crispy, tender crust, chewy bread that would conform its shape to the meat but not get soggy and break or leak.
He indoctrinated me into his cult of white American cheese for the cheesesteak, declaring cheese whiz to be heretical. Steak, onions, green peppers, shredded, piled, and then grilled for crispy caramelization, then coated in mayonaise and shrouded in slices of white American. Cover with the bread for a full minute on the grill, applying a pressing iron, melding bread and cheese, crisping the bread/cheese/meat-juice at the edge of the bread, then separating the entire sandwich from the grill with that long spatula at the perfect moment. Wrap with parchment and halve it, then bind tightly into a narrow tube with butcher paper.
I would buy two 14-inch cheesesteak tubes, grab a bottle of premier cru French chablis from the wine shop next door ($30), stuff tge bottle and cheesesteak tubes into my massive wool overcoat, smuggle it all into Lloyd Cinemas, watch three movies in a row and feast like a mythological king right in the theater. I'd just unwrap the sandwich right in my lap and drink straight from the bottle.

Tony: he was a 5'2", 120-lb. Italian native of Philly. If someone came into his restaurant and ordered a cheesesteak or hoagie 'wrong'--i.e. insisting on some ingredient he considered heretical--he would loudly order them to gtfo. If they became belligerent, he would grab them by the scruff and physically eject them out the door and onto their butts on the sidewalk.
I'm pretty sure he teleported 1500 square feet of Philly directly to SE 33rd and Division in Portland.

He also properly indoctrinated you into the importance of the bread. Non-Philadelphians think its all BS when we say the bread is just as important as the meat.

Saving for after work so I can give it the attention it's due! Angelo's used to be in Haddonfield NJ about 5 min from my house. My crew and I knew what we had there but the rest of Haddonfield didn't understand (or honestly, deserve) Angelo's. Danny and his whole crew is so kind and generous that he gave me an Angelo's ballcap years ago that I still wear to this day! It even had flour on it for a while! lol So happy for all the success they have found in Philly!
I live in Haddon Heights & am very bummed they moved. They got a lot of business as word spread. The problem was their landlord. Philly was supposed to be their 2nd location.
Was Angelo's in Haddonfield? For some reason I thought it was in Collingswood.

@@jasonharris996 Yeah, it used to be in Haddonfield, Collingswood is a couple towns over. I lived in Cwood for 8 years, Antoninos II was my goto spot for pizza there.

We accidently found this place while visiting Philly. We were just walking around trying to find the Italian district. We came up on to this street corner and there were all these people in the street eating pizza straight out of a box, eating pizza on top of a car hood, eating pizza out the back of their car. Honestly a bit confused and surprised, then I remember I saw this place on barstool pizza reviews. We walked up and ordered a pizza and cheese steaks, and wow. Probably some of the best I've had.

I am going out on a 'culinary term limb' here to say that Mark's reference to the "mallard effect" works by way of analogy; specifically suggesting that the food is so good, it makes one want to do a deep dive into the total flavor experience -- similar to the way in which a duck does a full-on deep head dive into the water to feed on available aquatic treats. Yep, that's the mallard effect.
Love this video as always. While I much prefer your Asian videos in terms of the complexity of flavours etc, I must admit the USA is the King for sandwiches etc. JL is a good companion and it's obvious that the two of you get along really well. Thank you Mark, Ying and JL.
