He said chances are more realistic, not that wasn't even realistic. Besides that, Karjakin and Caruana were super equal, only in blitz Magnus could beat them, and back then Magnus was way better than now. Magnus said that he reached his peak a long time ago. So, I think he wanted to retire as a champion and play rapids and blitz, than lose for age reasons. I remember when he beat Anand in the WC he said that in deep calculations he beat Anand because he was older and the brain doesn't work the same as a 20 year old. I think that he is kind of smafraid of that, true or not.
@@cuhhhhhhhhhhh Magnus talked a lot about it. It is not worth it to spend months preparing. It is silly to think that Magnus doesn't prepare, he is the most prepared player, he had a whole team working on his preparation, Dubov just to name one of his team.
I think Ding chose Rapport because China was the country where he played a lot of chess tournaments. I remember back in the days of Chess24 app broadcasts, around 2015 or so, many Chinese tournaments featured primarily Chinese players, with a few foreigners like Rapport. He played there so frequently that, who knows, he might even speak the language. That’s probably why Ding and Rapport worked well together, achieving great results.
For anyone reading this. I just factchecked with ChatGPT Richard Rapport has participated in several chess events in China, particularly in the mid-2010s. One notable event was the "Bai Xue Chess Institute" Cup in 2016, where he played a summit match against Wei Yi in Yancheng, China. In 2019, he also competed in the Danzhou Super Grandmaster Tournament, where he secured first place with a score of 4.5/7, finishing ahead of top players like Wei Yi and Yu Yangyi. These experiences likely contributed to his familiarity with Chinese chess circles, which may have facilitated his partnership with Ding Liren later in his career.
Yes a lot of these young Indian chess players are competitors but what you fail to understand is that they have been playing & training together for a very long time since they were kids. It is almost like a family. WACA, The Westbridge Academy has played a very important role in bringing them all together. I am pretty sure others would be happy to help Gukesh if needed.
@@MadaraUchiha-iu3ldthe direct competitors do help in WCC. Ian helped Magnus, Dubov has worked with Pragg and as we heard yesterday Anish wanted to be Vidit's second and vice versa in Candidates and they are all close in ratings. @@MadaraUchiha-iu3ldThe young Indian players especially all came up together and are pretty close. Plus Vishy, as they all studied under him. So it's certainly not unheard of.
I think people learnt it the hard way. The ckassic example is carlsen buying Nielsen, anands second and made him reveal anands prep befor the world championship
If any other of the indian youngsters are helping Gukesh, my guess would be Nihal as he's not at the top but he's better at the opposite things of Gukesh, like speed chess, which requires more intuition than calculation.
Nihal himself was playing in President's cup in Uzbekistan on the same dates when the world championship (first four rounds) was taking place. Nihal went on to win the title there. So one can rule out Nihal Sarin as one of the helpers of Gukesh. But I feel that Arjun (he is not playing any tournaments now a days) could be one of the secret helpers.
Welcome to the world of chess! It's about the world championship teams. Gukesh is playing the reigning world champion, Ding Liren, this coming Monday. Both players prepare for months ahead with a secret team of helpers. These helpers are mostly there to do opening analysis/preparation to give each player the best possible start to each game. If your team of helpers are known by the other camp, your opening ideas might be less effective.

Hey guys, I'm enjoying your coverage of the WCC! Just wanted to ask to check your cameras (or rather your 1st ACs 😬). They sometimes seem to focus not exactly on people's faces, but somewhere behind them. @ 01:55 the focus is very sharp in the plants behind, not so much in his face 😅. Happened today during the live broadcast as well. Other than that, keep it up and I'll watch you tomorrow
Their overall record is 2.5-0.5 for Ding, with Ding winning their last 2 game, one in 2023. and in 24. Gukesh is still a favorite IMO, but I'd say that this is not onesided as many people think.
I get what you are saying but it is important to remember that Gukesh just turned 18. He is in a period of rapid growth for chess players and he seems to be going from strength to strength. Meanwhile Ding has really been struggling to perform at anywhere close to his peak and isn't even in the top 20 players by rating at the moment. I genuinely expect it to be a slaughter unless Ding really recaptures his pre-2023 form.
Ofcourse he's getting good help from other top players. Although theyre competitors we've seen nationalism means a lot to these players and to have an indian world champion would be huge for them. You can bet Anand along with his team at WACA are doing their best getting Gukesh in top form for the event. I personally think Gukesh will destroy Ding on the board and the match won't go passed 10 rounds
Hammer, the other players in the candidates had excellent seconds too. Gukesh didnt win the candidates just because he had the right second. He won it on his own merit.
though he won the candidates, most of his matches with senior palyers were draw.. and other indian players actually unintentionally helped him.. for e.g Vidit beating Hikaru twice and draw with fabi, Prag drawing against nepo
