  • This happens to be a 1977 6329 engine. The JD254A timing tool and locking pin fit many engines.

You are great.. very detailed and directly to the point..! I have worked on diesel engines for 20 years and couldn't have explained it better

The way you're doing it is easy as hell you don't even need a PIN

And all the 4045 engines, fuel pumps are timed with a key, so no matter the position of the engine, when the pump is installed, it ONLY GOES IN ONE WAY !

Do you know anything about the 6059 fuel pump timing? I put the engine on tdc put the pin in and couldn’t find the timing line on the stanadyne fuel pump then I did more research and asking around and I thought that since it had the key way I was good and didn’t need to worry since it can only go in one way and then you just advance or retard it if needed. Since I had it rebuilt it’s smoking like a train so I’ve tried to advance it and retard it and nothing has worked.

@@marktrauth1315 I can see from numerous different video,s, the early engines used NO key, so you need to time the pump and engine. You will need the JD repair manual for your engine, which may be free pdf online.

Quick question for ya: i am replacing oil pump on jonh deere 4045T. By removing that oil pump i am also interfere the larger gear that connected to the oil pump which I believe balancing gear. The question is do i need to do the timing for that 2 gear mentioned?
Reason i ask is if that required i will have to remove radiators, fan, and some more stuff in the chassis.
    Thank you.

on a 1969 JD 350 Dozer the manual says to rotate the engine by hand to get it in timing before removing injection pump, where in the world is there a place to try and rotate it by hand ? Roosa Master CBC-331 Pump

Would the key way on the crank shaft on a 4045DF150B be at the 12 o’clock position? When it’s on #1 TDC? It’s a 4cylinder

I just pulled the injection pump on that same 6cyl engine. I locked the flywheel on TDC which brought the two lines in view on pump. When I pulled the pump off the shaft the shaft/gear flopped around a bit. I'm surprised they use the pump housing to support the shaft and gear with no bearing or bushing to support the shaft? Or is this abnormal ??
Great video and (thankfully) I'm only doing the pump, not engine overhaul.

I don’t believe it will jump time. It’s loose, but not enough to jump out if I am not mistaken.

I just did a major overhaul on one of these engines and I did what you said marks the gears because I didn’t have John Deere tool. Same thing with pump. It seems as if fuel injectors aren’t spraying. Any thoughts on what to check? Thanks

    • @LakelandAutoMarine
      @LakelandAutoMarine  2 ปีที่แล้ว

You should still have fuel coming out of the pump irregardless if it’s in or out of time. I’d make sure you have fuel going to the pump while cranking and make sure the shutoff solenoid is working.

Hi, My timing window is on the opposite side of my pump so not visible without a mirror, should you align the marks the same way?

@@LakelandAutoMarine Hi, it’s a JD3029 3 litre natural aspirated engine with a Standyne injection pump. Marinised by Beta Marine and named JD3 Tug. The window for the timing marks is away from me next to the engine block. I have removed the access plate and with a mirror I can see a long scratch timing mark but no mark is visible on the other corresponding half closest to the input drive shaft end.

Hello La&m, I have a question. Why would the timing slip? Tractor would not start, everything seemed fine, fuel ect., so I advanced and retard the injector pump and it started.
