Me (Josh Gallagher, 18) covering Van Halen's mighty "Girl Gone Bad" from their 1984 release "1984".
This cover features the absolutely awesome and talented guitarist from Quebec Canada, Jacob Deraps (17)! Jacob did a freaking SPECTACULAR MINDBLOWING job replicating Eddie's parts on this cover as well as nailing all the bass parts, I'm so thrilled and happy with how both of our performances turned out here!

imo girl gone bad is the greatest vh song of all time
It has an odd vibe I can't quite describe. Especially the ending. I think for me it's the breakdown after the solo ,Dave's vocals in the background. It's probably since this is after the breakup now. It's like a farewell to the classic van Halen sound. Sorry I probably overthink it . But anyway. You guys fucking killed this.

Drums are great,but the guitar is unbelievable, to this day,i have never heard anyone play that accurate to one of Eddie's solo's, its almost as if it was the actual track,even the tone,and sound is so close, NUTS!!!!!.

Jacob Deraps is the best Van Halen, Eddie cover guitarist in the world. Period. This is fact not fiction!!! Don't even bother trying to find someone better. Its not just a waste of time my friend, but that person does not exist here on this planet. Jacobs covers are the gospel.
I swear if you close your eyes and listen, it sounds like edward and alex jamming together. Fricking amazing. Brings me back to my younger days when I first found Van Halen.
Alex VH is one of the most underrated drummers EVER. He is AMAZING!!!!
I personally think his drumming on 1984 was some of his best work. Almost all of the songs have some great drum fills and playing. He also has more double bass drums on this release than previous ones. Really good stuff!!
No doubt an awesome job on drums… the guitar tho, next level attention to detail, it’s unreal how Deraps nails every single nuance of Eddie’s guitar playing, and for those of us that notice those things, it’s pure heaven to our ears!

Just did an interesting experiment. I opened a second tab with Van Halen's studio original and tried to hit "play" on each at the same time. They fit RIGHT over each other! It's unbelievable!
What's more amazing is how you hit play on each at the same time.
dsvet I opened two tabs, hit play on one and then the other, then tapped "pause" on the first one so the second one could make the millisecond catch-up.
The Drums are absolutely FANTASTIC.... the guitars and bass are simply MINDBLOWING.

My name is Jay Jay, the self proclaimed number 1 Jacob Deraps fan on planet earth, hands down. No disrespect intended but my pride and admiration could actually rival that of your own fathers!!! As I work my way through each and every video very carefully and trust me, I make sure to watch each one at least 3 times in a row. I am so completely mind blown that I fear my head might actually friggen explode!!!! with each video you have somehow managed to continue to impress me to a point that is reaching unfathomable proportions. Like I mentioned in a few of my previous posts yesterday I am an old man of 52 who's first ever album was van halens first album. I began to play guitar immediately after listening to that album!! I stumbled and bumbled my way through trying to learn these same songs for years!!!! Those were the days of no computers! No cell phones!! No U Tube videos!! No videos on T.V.. No concert videos!!! No sheet music to look at!! There was nothing to go on!!! nobody to give me a hint!!! or even a buddy that was better than me that I could watch and steal from!!! But. as luck would have it I heard about a dude giving lessons at Ace Music in Santa Monica that was suppose to be the man with all the secrets!!! Guess who was giving lessons back then at Ace music? None other than Randy Rhodes himself!!!! Obviously this was before his major stardom as an incredible innovative young master of the axe!!! With his guidance and expertise and understanding of what Eddie was doing at that time was able to open up all these doors for me that nobody at that time had a clue about. Such as rolling the scales, hammering on, tremolo bar, and stretching from the 5th to the 12f frets as well as the right kind of effects such as the reel to reel analog delay and so forth. You bring back so many memories for me of playing in my room or garage for 9 to 12 hours at a time everyday. Back then I was miles and miles ahead of every kid around because of Randy. I went on to fall in love and get married and have children and leave my dreams of being a rock god behind me. No regrets there. By the way, I suffered from a unique inability to be able to pick the notes that a could play with my scale fingers!!! MY left hand had a mind of its own and was capable of absolute mind bending speed and accuracy but was always waiting for the right to catch up!!!! At some point although incredibly frustrating, I realized I could rarely play what I had the ability to play because of that. I never met anybody who was waiting on there picking to get faster!! they were waiting for there scale fingers to speed up!!! Anyway enough about me. I was extremely happy to come across this video with you and this young talented drummer!!!! I'm not surprised though that you would have to literally search the globe for someone in you age group worthy enough to keep up with you. You have both given me new found hope that the resurrection of rock music and more importantly rock guitar is alive and well. You are the future of what can be the new rock guitarist of the millennium!! Ill stop there so as to not wear out my welcome cause I will probably find it quite hard not to make more gratuitous comments about your incredible abilities as I continue to work my way through everything I can find of you playing. Thank you Jacob for the incredible adrenalin surge you have provided me. I have thoroughly enjoyed every single note!!! Later Bro!!!

Diggin your story tooo, JayJay...mine similar with a few more years tacked on....I saw this kid awhile back and saw myself at 15 in my garage with Jeff Pilson...no where NEAR the talent as Jacob, but I too have a renewd interest in playing...went and bought a LP and Marshall 1/2 stack...I admit to frustration, but TH-cam is a priceless tool for us old hackers ya..? I have already been through the "what if"..thing obviously, since Jeff proved that there WAS something in that garage....keep it up Jacob....you, Josh, Avery and so many more have nothing but bright futures ahead....

We need to get you guys together. The 11,000 mile difference from each other poses a problem though. Any producer's out there that want to get richer should see this and step up to the plate as this is too good to pass up! Josh is a super drummer as Jacob is one of the best guitarist's TH-cam has ever posted. These young men together, could get us back to real Rock & Roll.

you cant get signed or produced doing covers. they could do ok as a tribute band, but they gotta play the hot circuits. means alot of traveling around unless they just want to hole up in LA and play clubs and parties. otherwise, they gotta come up with something original.
Need to do a Steel Panther/original songs thing and come to the States. If you are as good as your videos say you could make a lot of money doing something that you love.

There is no possible way that you could cover this song any more accurately than this. Impossible. Nobody, and I mean , nobody, could even get remotely close to how good this is. This is not only played expertly but, it has been produced expertly as well . Mind Blown.

The drums were fantastic. First rate in every detail. But, this is my first hearing of Jacob Deraps. Unbelievable copy of EVH. Unbelievable. I was around learning all of Eddie's stuff back in the 70's and 80's and I was pretty good too. But this guy......geez!! Congrats young man!!!!

I've done a few radio performances lately as well! Regarding hi hat slant, under the bottom hi hat cymbal is a little screw which you can turn and it pushes the felt up on one side, I swivel it around to whatever side is off balance and adjust it until it is level with the other.

that kicked major @$$!! One of my favourite Van Halen songs of all time, you even matched the tone of Alex's drums. Too me that album is where Alex separated himself from the rest of the pack as he got something that was truly his own sound. Although I remember reading a Modern Drummer issue and he said when people congratulate him on that sound from 1984 he's embarrassed to admit that wasn't what he was going for. But if other people like it who is he to disagree....great chops mate. You're a legend Josh.
