- Here it is, as promised, part 2 of my Brown Sound video, which has been my most popular video so far, thanks everyone! In this one, I'm back with the stock DiMarzio pickups and I'm using a Variac and all the pedals... Hope you enjoy, crank it loud for maximum tone!

I love the attacking twanging sound that each picking stroke makes on a dimed plexi. Something incredibly satisfying about this sound and the tone that is produced.

Amazing how well he plays certain riffs and then others are just off. That plexi head is nice.
Everyone talks about gear, settings and tone but this guy captures the feel and groove of Eddie’s playing!! You can’t teach that to anyone. This guy is playing with his heart.

Fucking incredible. The gear is fantastic, but If you handed most guitarists this rig it wouldn't sounds nearly as perfect as when you play it. Your technique and ability to play exactly like EVH is mind boggling.

Alright, I've had a night to sleep on this and now come back to it and listen again. I'm again blown away while I listen. Its even better today than yesterday. Christ!! man, is that even possible? First, really great job Jacob on all your effects settings on all of these songs. Extremely accurate. All of it is about as close to perfect as I believe is humanly possible. What struck me listening to it again today, is how incredibly perfect the first 15 seconds are. Its not possible to play that any better or more accurately. Then at the end, I realized, yet again, just how God Damn perfect the whole thing is!!
If only Eddie’s tone was still like this. I’m sorry but I can’t stand his recent buzzy/fizzy tone. You have by far the best brown sound I’ve ever heard someone attempt. Well done!

I honestly think it has to do with his hearing loss. When you get older you loose a lot of ability to hear top end, and add to that the hearing damage that Ed has no doubt had through the years. It probably sounds good to him.

Brilliant as always, JD! Your version of On Fire killed me, especially the solo with that aggressive pick attack. A handful of people can actually get the tone, the technique, and most importantly the EVH feel, the rest of us mortals are just tryin to climb that mountain. I love watching these. I’ve never heard a guitar player besides Pete Thorn nail it this close. I was impressed to find your Sultans of Swing and Journey videos too though. Great taste in music and great chops on the guitar. RIP EVH. I wish he could have met you to see the dedication you have emulating him in sound and playing. VH1 is my favorite sound he had but Mean Street and Women and Children First were also great tones. Keep rockin man. You got that special something playing. It’s the passion for the music.

Killer... every bit sounded awesome... it sounds like isolated guitar tracks from the actual albums.. that's how close it sounds... wow.
Ooh my, now you've done it!! You know, I was just thinking about this the other day. After listening to the brown sound 1 video where you introduce the variac into your system which was great by the way, and I thought, I really wish he would just try the brown sound with your EVH effects peddles, which I know you had, and the variac together and kind of like focus on playing some of Eddies stuff where he used the effects peddles for sure and see what you come up with, which you ultimately did. I'm so glad you did this because I have kind of literally been waiting for it to tell you the truth. I actually thought that maybe you had tried this set up before and it just wasn't any good for some reason or another. Because, Hey, Eddie used them you know and its not like your cheating or anything. You have kind of already proven how incredibly clean and crisp you can play plugged straight in and get amazing sound and tone also. Jacob you have always had the best brown sound around, hands down. With the variac, it was great also. But, Now? With the variac, your Germino Head and Marshall Cabinet and all the EVH effects including your guitar and especially your fingers on both hands. Its the best Van Halen 1 sound and tone you have ever come up with in my opinion. Its as good or better even, than your JMP 1H Marshall maxed out, with your 1989 Fender HM Strat from some of your earlier videos like. Eruption, I'm The One ect... So. What I'm saying here is, you have managed to do it yet again!! and improve your Van Halen sound which was already the best out there, or anywhere. Now. Finally. I just cant see how you could get any closer to Eddies sound on that first album. I believe that the Van Halen 1 album contains the best guitar sound ever produced in the history of Rock n Roll. Its so awesome Jacob that you continue to move forward and continually improve. I completely respect your drive, desire, and determination to do just that. I'm blown away yet again.

Smokin Sound and Playing. I havent heard this stuff since I last played it myself. I have to admit though. I never used a variac although I know exactly how Eddie got his sound with them, and I absolutley love your tone, and playing but kids dont think you have to go and use a variac and juice it up to get Eddies sound. I have always played Mark 2's JMP 50 watters and turned them all the way up, I converted a bass head to a lead and I had Eddies tone all day.Matter of fact Doug Blair from Wasp whom which I grew up with, loved my amps so much he used them for quite a while. Non Modded as well, just the same old 6550s, and I would variate the preamp tubes. GREAT VIdeo , and awesome playing!!!! I needed that

I stumbled across you Jacob....from one guitarist to another especially listening and watching you play reminds me of dare I say practicing these when it was new LOL....you're a pleasure to watch and listen to. I look forward to hearing more JAcob and less other guitarists....although its a a bit scary how close you get to them... and my gut says that you have a seat at the table....with JACOBS fingers :)....sincerely you're great lad....supposedly this was said but even if not...its still a true statement....When Mozart saw and listened to a young Beethoven he supposedly said

I love that Jacob uses older school gear like a Old plexi style amp(NO PEDALS) and a pretty basic guitar. 2 hums and one knob.

Your playing is incredible. I like what you do man. I like the first Brown Sound video you made. This lacks the warmth and low mids of your first Brown Sound video. The first vid sounds very rich as this sounds shrill like a solid state amp or something??? Just my opinion. Kinda like my mxr 5150 overdrive. It was kind of a let down to me and I'll probably trade or sell it. But what do I know? You are great and thank you for your awesome posts.

Totally killer! I love my Lead 55. Do you have it biased for 91 volts or biased for 120 volts and then let it rip at 91 volts?

The natural harmonics at the beginning are done using the 5th string 7th fret, 4th string 6th fret and 3rd string 6th fret with the hand barely touching the strings. I find them harder to play than a regular natural harmonic played at the 12th, 7th or 5th fret.

Fuck sake...spent a decade chasing this tone. Hundreds and hundreds of hours in the MetroAmp forum, where Mark (before he passed was the closest).
