      @@NewsXAuto thank you very much for the reply! subscribed :) brother, is there any chance you could take the bike onto some fairly steep off-road paths? this is my only concern, that the bike will struggle on steep uphill dirt
      at the moment i have a DRZ400S, which is very capable off-road, but not so good for covering long distances on road. my hope is that the himalayan 450 will also be able to do the same tracks i do on the DRZ once it has some better 50/50 tires! any info/opinion you can give me would be much appreciated!

      @@pitchwife7573 thank you so much for subscribing! You'll be pleased to know that the Himi 450 doesn't struggle at all even at the steepest dirt sections even with stock rubber! 😃 The only thing you MIGHT have to watch out for is the weight, but I am guessing you are a tall person (since you ride the DRZ), so you won't really have any issues with the reach! Hope this helps! 😃 Also, which country are you from?

      Bro I watched this. I got mine delivered few days back
      I need help on two things
      Since I m running in the engine it's in mumbai road conditions where even if you don't want some lugging does happen because of people coming in between, frequent gear changes etc
      I am really struggling as this does not have anything in 1 nd 2 gears, also m facing vibration in gear 1 and 2.
      Please suggest a better way to run in and how much lugging is ok???
      Also are the vibes normal as I feel I hear constant buzzing in these gears, this maybe due to the vibes in the windscreen

    After going through all the videos on Himalayan, this was the most informative, worth anyone's time before buying (i am geeting mine next month, hopefully!). Riding bikes for more tha 15 year but did not know the bike should not be kept at a constant speed, never saw that info readers manual, and makes complete sense. Modern automotive engines break-in heavily within 1-2 hours. Even SAE tests for wear are 20-30 mins on the dyno. Mostly, the rate of frictional wear does not increase significantly after 10 hours of running. Latest CNC surface roughness tolerances are 1-3 microns, so the variations for the finished assembly are not high. Additionally, low tension compression/oil rings and lightweight pistons have lesser slap. A good way is to replace the stock engine oil/filter after 50-100 km of steady medium load riding with full synthetic. Now, if you rebuild the engine, factory tolerances are lost and a lengthy run-in is essential. The simulation image is outdated.

    • @Leon-uu4wk
      @Leon-uu4wk 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So how much speed and rpm are u suggesting for breaking in hima 450 ? Are you saying we dont need.to look at the rpm or speed ?

    • @GautamChatterji
      @GautamChatterji 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Break-in use to happen at very fast rate when plateau honing wasn’t introduced, but with that in place the breakin takes significantly longer, besides as author said, for ring compliance you need to carefully break in for recommended schedule to take care say 4th order distortions etc which is not surface quality related. Modern engines can take as long as 12k miles for it to get to optimum performance. The breakin on dyno is to achieve quick compliance so that the power figures and performance is accurate and not way off the scale. But there is no substitute for proper breakin schedule no matter what. One way to reduce bore distortion is to carry out the final machining of the bore with a deck plate that can reproduce some of the distortions that occur from the cylinder head bolts but on production engines it’s not done.

    • @drury2d8
      @drury2d8 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

       @GautamChatterji Agree 100%, it takes around 10000 km or more for a 50%+ plateau. However, I was coming to a different discussion on the break-in as the rings bed-in correctly (positive ring sealing) under gradually applied but variable HIGH loads during the initial run. Speaking from a tribological perspective, the two main reasons for improper break-ins are low power and the use of dirty lubricating oils
      . In layman's terms, why would you want particles circulating in the engine for 500 or 1000 km when we have decades of proof indicating that wear during the first hour of the engine run is the worst? I think this is really important and is not followed by manufacturers as they don't want to burden the average customer with an immediate maintenance appointment. That said, I own and work on my 2 civics and a CB500, I followed the 100 km oil change the first night from the dealership and a second at 500 km. At the 100 km change, a visual inspection alone was enough indicator to get rid of the factory oil. The 500 km change was not as dirty. The civics have ~290000 km and ~120000 km respectively, and the engines run as good as new. After that its 8000 km intervals assuming 70-80% highway use.

    • @NewsXAuto
      @NewsXAuto  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@drury2d8 you are now agreeing that break-in is essential, but you had started off by incorrectly stating that it's not required 😃 It is very much required, and that too not on a dyno but under the weight of the vehicle at varying engine speeds. And I totally agree with the first oil change between 50-100 km, and also with the fact that the manufacturers don't want to burden the customers with it for obvious reasons. Ideally, it should be the norm that the first oil and oil-filter change at 100 km would be done by the manufacturer free of charge. If wishes were horses... 😃

    Thanks for the video Shiraz, i have been running in my himmy for the past few days and i wanted to mention some things. (Please correct me if anything wrong)
    1. The bike is not great to drive below 3k rpm, so shifting to second is difficult when in city traffic. I mostlty keep it in first in crawling traffic (till 4-4.k). Revving it a little high in first over knocking it in second.
    2. In crawling traffic you cannot let go of the clutch completely. You have to begin feathering the clutch as you fall below 2.5k rpm (15km). This is not a bike you can drive around like a classic 350. This is unavoidable, am i right?
    3. I have been holding on to certain speeds for 20 to 40 seconds before varying engine speeds. Eg. Hold it at 80 in 6th for 1 min, then do the same in 5th, then in 4th. This varies the engine rpm while allowing a constant speed, i feel its safer in highway. Howver you are varying the speed very quickly which i feel is a bit unsafe. Is this correct?
    4. There is a ton of heating on the right side (alone) when crawling in traffic for long. Does this get better after 1st service?

    Great video, my one question is that people cant wait to take this bike offroad before crossing the 2k mark. This bike will go offroad after 500kms for sure. How would you recommend the running in procedure while taking this bike offroad considering the tire will break loose on dirt, the engine will be revved out more etc ?

    Sir,
    I came across this video a few months ago, and I have repeatedly watched this and the tractability video since then. In fact, the day before I brought my Himalayan 450 in the last week, I went through both videos thoroughly and followed them as a tutorial, as I want to follow all the necessary things that are good for my bike's health. Just today I was reading through all the comments when I came across one comment thread where there is a discussion about engine oil and the oil filter change to be done between 50 and 100 km. But the Himalayan 450's first service is scheduled at 500 km, or 45 days. I have already covered 150 km, mostly on the highways, with the maximum speed of 50 kmph up to 3rd gear. Could you please guide me on how to go about it? I am fairly new to this motorcycling world, and I am not sure how to ask the service center people to do it early. Could you please help me?

      You are most welcome and it's not at all a stupid question 😃 Downhill, ride it like you normally would. Does gradually take up speed to 90-95 before 500 km means to inc the speed gradually in every ride (e.g. 75 in 1st ride 85 in 2nd) or inc the speed in first ride slowly to 90 (like slowly increase the throttle instead of increasing it aggressively)?
