- We're currently traveling northern Italy and have the wonderful opportunity to visit and record several historic organs in the Bergamo and Milano region. In this video we are exploring the organ of Chiesa di San Bartolomeo in Bergamo - a wonderful historic church and organ from the 18-hundreds. I was very impressed by the sound of this instrument, even though it took some time to get used to it! In this video we'll also hear the famous " Jesu, Joy of Man's desiring" - but not as a perfect recording :-)
I hope you'll enjoy this video of the organ as well as the traveling-shots. Please let me know if you like this video style and I can show you more "behind the scenes" and traveling footage. It is so much fun to film, so I'd be happy to share more.

Yes, I like the "traveling" videos and the "behind the scenes" ending with a composition.
Agreed.
Dear Paul, that was interesting to see you explore that beautiful instrument. That pedalboard certainly would cause you to have to keep your mind on it! It’s so much fun to listen to these beautiful organs that craftsmen many decades ago poured their hearts into
designing and building them to fit these enormous structures. I so much love your candid,
unpretentious presentation. I find you so relatable in all that you do! Your enthusiasm ignites a love for the organ. Thank you, my friend. Royden
Thank you so much, Royden!! I‘m so glad to hear that you enjoyed the presentation - there are many more to come from this trip! 😀
Looking forward to seeing more of your Italy trip, Paul!💕. You make me smile!!
Love the sound of that instrument. It's always great to see behind the scenes, more of that please!
video fantastico, tanti complimenti!
Sehr schön anzuhören Paul Fey, Danke für den Ausflug. 👍🏻❤
Thank you Paul for bringing us such amazing instruments!
Thank you so much for watching!! 😀
Schöne Vorstellung dieser alten Orgel. Sehr interessant.
That organ is really so.. Italian! I don't have a better word to describe it!
I personally know here in Portugal a couple of modern Mascioni organs and I can see and listen to all the heritage back from this historical instrument
Another historic organ still producing beautiful sounds. Your travels and demonstrating various organs is very educational. As a young child my grandmother took me to church every Sunday. The pastor's wife was the organist on the electronic organ. I fell in love with the music it played. Now as an adult I have come to love the pipe organ which in most situations produces a clear melodious sound when the right person is at the console. Since I can't travel the world to experience these majestic instruments, I do appreciate people like Paul to bring these good experiences via videos. Thanks again Paul.
Very nice intro of the organ! And also very beautiful version of Jesu :)
Wow! The video quality looks especially good on this video *chef's kiss*
Fascinating, and beautiful. Thank you Paul, yet again! 😊😊😊
A very interesting video today of this unique Italian organ, which is very different technically from most of the German organs that we have previously seen. It must have been somewhat of a challenge to adapt quickly, especially the pedalboard, and perform the Bach piece. With this organ, i think you must always have an assistant if you are making stop changes during the performance. You must be having a wonderful there in Italy. I enjoy your presentations like this one. Very informative. Thank you, Paul !
dear friend, these 19th century Italian instruments have numerous mechanical servo controls that allow you to vary the settings without any help. It certainly takes a little time to learn.
Regards
If you want to understand better a Lombardy XIX century organ I suggest to watch these two videos

Another amazing find both church and organ. I am impressed there are craftsmen around to maintain these older instruments.
Das sind völlig neue Erfahrungen. Bravo 👌👌👌
Thank you, Paul for the wonderful video.💗💗💗💗💗
Danke Paul, tolle Arbeit an dieser interessanten Orgel
Beautiful instrument with lots of delightful colours , i hope you do a part 2 !
Chiesa stupenda, organo pure!

Vielen Dank! 😀
How interesting ... quite an impossible pedal clavier.... I smiled seeing you struggle a bit with it paul.... Keep up the amazing work for all of us... Doc.
Haha, thank you for watching!! I made peace with the pedalboard shortly after - it is fun to play once you‘ve figured it out! 😀
First organ I’ve seen with sliding stop handles instead of the usual push-pull mechanism. Pedal board also unusual, requiring more attention. Congrats Paul on navigating the additional challenges!
Ich staune und freue mich. 👍👍👍
Just what Ineed to uplift me
For me as a Dane this is quite an... um... ear-opener. Thanks...
beautiful. wonderful music
Historic and wonderful not only the organ, the sounds and the church Thank you !
Ein Erlebnis auf dieser Orgel. ❤
Thanks Paul. What a difference.
Paul, you should come and test the famous and majestic "Prestinari" organ in Lonate Pozzolo (near Milano Malpensa airport). Built in 1833, it has an outstanding Principale 32' and a refined set of stops. It is usually played by some of the greatest organists in Italy, who never cease praising the organ builder who conceived and put in place this wonderful instrument
Absolutely great video my friend!😁👍👍
I’d love to hear you play the organ at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London!!
Paul, that was amazing to hear. Unique instrument indeed. Could you please tell what was the piece you started playing at 6:05 ? It's so beautiful...
Oh it's super nice! Greetings from Prague
love when you talk about the organ
Enjoying your Italian tour! Your demonstrations of the organs' tone palettes are wonderful!! I loved the rendition of "Jesu, Joy of Man's desiring" on this organ! Small request - Where possible, could you include the name of the organ's builder on this historic organ tours?
I think many people are falling in love with you after seeing your vids.
Well done Paul.😊
Greetings from Bergamo ❤😊
Thank you so much!! 😀
Maestro! Adapting so quickly to that pedalboard just shows what a brilliant organist you are ⭐
Wonderful!! I love music for organ,Paul!
What a delightful tour of this old instument. It would be very hard to leave it. Jesus joy of man's desiring is so mellow on this instrument. Keep on exploring.
A great range of timbres - thank you for sharing.
Wow!!! Your performance is great and the instrument sounds incredible.
6:07 what is this piece, if you don't mind me asking?
Excellent! Thanks!
this organ has wonderfull sound!
Nice to hear him explain.
Vielen Dank für die Einblicke. 👌👍
This is a very different instrument with very special voices, I like it.
Fun to see you getting close with the organ over time, it certainly takes time to get used to different instruments especially if built by a different school of builders.
Good show young man--continue to pursue!
juicy video 😍
That church is the ultimate in Baroque style. It also has fine acoustics. The organ sounds mellow. (The Kami - spirits - of the organ seemed to be resisting Bach a bit. Perhaps wishing for a bit of a Vivaldi/Bach concerto)? From Chicago, U.S.A.
Schöne alte Kirche, danke👏👌
This is an interesting organ and seems to have a noisy mechanical action than the tracker organs I have heard. I wonder if this noise is distracting, or, something you get used to. The stop canceling function was very interesting, and noisy too. Thank you for sharing.
I love it😊😊😊
Amazing sound!
Sehr schöne Führung. 👌👌👌
awesome
Tolle Vorstellung der Orgel. Liebe Grüße. Gerd 👏
nice to hear you talk about organs and your opinions
Complimenti ❤
WOW.......Damn good musician BRAVO Paul De France
Oooh, thank you so much!! 😀
@@PaulFey 😁
Mr. Paul, it is so nice to hear you to play at this organ. It is a wonderful organ.
Thank you so much!! 😀
Very nice Paul, the guy in the background looks like it is 4 in the morning 😂
@@VictorFeroXFors I‘ll let him know 😂😂😂😂
I simply blame the little mistake on that ghastly pedalboard. 😀
Thanks for sharing this organ tour.
🌴☀️🌴
Haha, exactly!! Thank you so much for watching 😀
Paul Frey is so good as an organist and knowledgeable
Wunderbar Paul, Füße verkleinern lassen 🙏🙏🙏
Es würde helfen! 😀
Bravo!
Its nice to see how much you enjoy yourself 🤭
Wow
BWV 147...SO WUNDERBAR...
JESUS BLEIBET MEINE FREUDE...
Another great video! The stop knobs look unusual--do they control two stops each, or two pitches, or how do they work? haha I noticed there are two numbers on each, and it appears that they can be slid halfway or all the way across.
as My friend from the Netherlands might say it plays Heavy By the sound of the keys being pressed. MagicalPipes But Great Sounding Instrument.
A dream came true when I allowed myself to play on an organ in a small church when no one was there.
Ich werde nach Italien wechseln. Klingt besser dort 😆
Danke fürs Teilen, wunderschöner Klang 👌🏼
Hey, lieber Paul.
Thanks for the interesting demo. Who was the builder of the organ?
I like the voicing.
Great demonstration Paul. It’s a wonderful organ
Does this have a barker like mechanism for the action? It almost sounds like I hear pneumatics behind the console.
It's all tracker action 😊
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
⭐⭐⭐
Eheh 😂 the tight pedalboard of the 1800's organ is very difficult to manage, but I think that it can become a great personal challenge to play Bach pieces.
The dodgy old keyboard makes as much noise as the organ itself!
Ah yes, narrow and bright. What’s with the clip clop keys? Age? Of course being German, and a piano player, I prefer the German organs sound. I like the deeper sound and the vibrations from my feet to my head. Yes?
I can totally relate and feel similar for most of the music I‘m playing, but for Italian music this one is perfect! 😀
What is the name of the music at 8:26?
Thats J. S. Bach‘s „Jesu, Joy of Man‘s Desiring“ 😀
@@PaulFeythe one and only 'difficult' piece I can 'play' 🤭 so enjoy watching your amazing skill - thankyou 🤩
@@PaulFey thanks🫀
PSALM 147: 5 OUR LORD IS GREAT AND IS MIGHTY IN POWER; HIS UNDERSTANDING IS BEYOND MEASURE.
How would they know that?
Psalm 135: 20,21 O house of Levi, praise Jehovah. 21 May Jehovah be praised from Zion. The One residing in Jerusalem. Praise Jah!
Will you enter the next Longwood Gardens Competition for Young (30 and under) Organists? Top prize: $40,000 USD. Held every three years.
I've heard about it and have seen the 2023 finals, let's see! 😀
@@PaulFeyFelix Hell, who I’m sure you know, won several years ago.
Very annoyingly, I was nearby there in April on holiday for the week.
Nooo, I hope you enjoyed the time there! The citta alta is amazing! 😀
You didn’t introduce your friend.
"Friend" in blue shirt appeared to be bored witless and would rather have been anywhere else. Poor dear lad. 🥱
Nemške orgle ne sežejo temu instrumentu niti do kolen..!
😂😂
record the sound away from the console
No, this is a tracker action organ. The sound is part of the instrument.
In Italy "You don't have much time" to explore the organs! Because Italian priests are so "jaelous" of their instruments! I'm an italian organist and i HATE this lack of freedom! Italy is a bad place to freely play the organs!
I'm sorry, but constantly moving camera making me dizzy.
I‘ll take it into consideration! Thank you for your feedback!!
