    I owned a 1984 Subaru Hatchback with 1.6L engine, 4-speed manual, and FWD. Got 42 MPG highway (Los Angeles to San Francisco with 1/4 tank leftover) and it ran like a little trooper. Now own a 2022 Subaru Forester Premium, drove it around Mammoth Mountain, California in the snow with all-season tires, no problem, no sliding, ran like a champ. Love this cross-over! Liked and subscribed.

    I just bought one (2024 Sub. Forester Wilderness). My first new car..ever. My trusty old Ranger 4x4 is still with me. But I gotta say, WOW..What a GREAT car that Subaru is. I can see why all the younger folks have 'em! We'll see what the Winter brings and I plan some road-tripping too!! So far, so good...(I need to get a C.D. player for it)!

    The Forester Wilderness really seems like quite a capable vehicle. It's smaller size, and maneuverability really adds to what it can do. There are many off-road circumstances where it would probably do better than even seemingly more capable vehicles like 4Runners and 4wd trucks because of its size.

      I have one, as long as you don’t go somewhere that reaches its ground clearance limit, it is super capable. I was driving under the hot sun in Utah desert and climbing up a 20 degree with full back trunk and 4 adults on my car, it just walked onto the top of the hill🎉

    I remember Christmas of 2020 where I drove (what was supposed to be 4.5 hrs, ended up being 11 hrs because traffic and weather) home and i was in a FWD Chevy Cruze that was manual and had summer tires. There was only one lane that was shoveled so i was stuck in bumper to bumper traffic on a very steep incline. And i noticed all these Jeeps and trucks passing me on both sides of me in the un-shoveled deep snow and i was so insanely nervous that I would slide into the vehicle behind me or get stuck or burn my clutch lol. NEVER AGAIN...This is why I'm looking at one of these now. Its economic still while having tons more space and practicality and capability. I know it can be a vehicle to have fun in while in the snow, but i just wanna be safe and have the confidence and peace of mind to make that drive and occasionally be able to make it on reasonable trails to cool local places as I'm very outdoorsy. Thank you for actually showing what this car is like in the real world in a day to day scenario!

    We recently purchased our first Subaru, a 2023 Forester Premium, and I really love it. Nothing in this life is perfect, and there are a few annoying design anomalies, the worst of which is the rear center seat belt set up!!! Whoever designed that should be thrown into Mt. Fuji!!! And the driver's seat going forward as it raises higher. Other than that, I'm really happy with it My wife prefers her Nissan Rogue, so that works out well.

    I bought my 2017 Forester Limited 7+ years ago (new), and currently have 103K on the clock. It still handles perfectly, and is a total monster through the snow. I may buy a 2024 within the next year, just because the 2025 Forester will have that hideous IPad-esque center screen that controls everything. The Wilderness would likely be my choice to tackle the New England winters.

    Tires make a big difference in the winter time. I don't need to switch into four-wheel drive in my Gladiator very often because the weight and the tires get me through most anything. Especially lane changes I don't have to worry about that.

    I'l be curious if you can drive a non-Wilderness Forester soon enough to "remember" how they each drive. I drove a Limited, then a week later, spent a lot of time in a CX-5 (turbo and normally aspirated). From there, went straight to a Subaru dealer, and hopped into a Wilderness. (I was primarily wanting to see if those tires would make the vehicle noisier than the other Foresters with more highway oriented all-season tires). I'm not sure if it is because I just came from a CX-5, or if what I was feeling was the difference between the Forester Wilderness and Limited. The Wilderness immediately felt a bit more truck like, with less responsive steering. I swear it felt like I had a cross wind (but there wasn't one). The Limited (from the week old memory) felt like it steered sharper with better feedback. They shortened up the gearing in the Wilderness too, which cuts 0.8 or so off the 0-60. It didn't feel faster. Unfortunately, that same gear change, combined with the tires and slightly higher ground clearance, extract a 5 mpg penalty in the Highway rating. So, if you drive a Sport, Limited, or Touring, I'll be interested in your feedback. I'm probably going to go back and try to drive them back to back. It isn't always easy to find a Wilderness available to drive on a given day. I don't really anticipate needing the extra off-roading chops of the Wilderness, but (silly reasons) I like the seating material, the Geyser Blue, and the forward camera (the only Forester with that). Not a fan of the 17" wheels.Maybe the extra punch from the gearing would be nice, but not at a 5 mpg penalty. I was just reading the CR comparison on the Outback XT and the regular Forester and the 45-60 time is only 0.1 sec slower in the Forester (while trailing by 2.1 sec on the 0-60!). So for slicing and dicing around town, the Forester has pretty decent punch (even beat the CRV hybrid).

      Thanks for sharing your experiences with driving all of those different vehicles!
      I drove a 24 Base forester right after this, but my focus was how the tires did in the same snow, which was not as good. I have regular reviews of a Forester Touring and Limited done but I’ve not made them public yet from my membership program, just because I have a lot of videos saved up right now I shouldn’t release all at once. But those weren’t filmed back to back to give the detail you might be looking for. The Mazdas do feel sharper especially in their steering, and they also do quite well in the snow. But I’m shocked that the 45-60 acceleration time was rated the same, I have trouble imagining that lol. But results do differ and depending on a lot of variables so I appreciate you sharing that! 🙂

    • @scottanthony3426
      @scottanthony3426 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AutomotiveAnonymous208 I revisited that CR info, and it was actually 45-65 (not 45-60). Part of it must be that they manage to keep the weight down a bit on the Forester. Funny, the Mazda sales guy really tried to play up the great 6-speeed automatics (which I knew were long in the tooth in car world). CR ripped them too, for being clunky on the upshift and slow on the downshift. But the Mazda CX-5 and CX-50 are both a couple hundred lbs heavier than the Forester. (DItto the Outback, which is why I thought the 2.5 Outback had drifted into "inadequate" territory in my seat of pants road test. I drove the Outback, Outback XT, and Forester Limited back-to-back-to-back.). Feels like all of this stuff is teetering on the edge of some major drivetrain upgrades. The 2.5 Boxer with CVT is pretty much the same (I think) as what I could have gotten in late '13 when I got my '14 XT. I did learn that Subaru builds their own CVT's though, and theirs are among the best of the CVT world.

      The Brat would be good if they kept it like the original a 2 door mini-truck, and offer it with a manual transmission. Didn't really care much for the Baja, looked like the factory forgot to put the roof on the cargo area of an Outback LOL. They already have plenty of 4 door vehicles on the market, a 2 door mini-truck with AWD, and some offroad prowess goodies would be awesome.

      That would be so sweet! Honestly if Subaru produced a new Baja based off the OBW with a bed cover like that photoshop imagine a few years ago, I’d probably consider one. But for the cost of R&D on a 2 door truck and the fact that it’s still most of a regular vehicle I would imagine that would still be very expensive to be profitable. Similar to how expensive a 2 door full size truck is. I wish they were cheaper, but that’s my thought. 🤷‍♂️

    I still think the Forester Wilderness will be my choice when I can afford a new car. I think I'll end up selling my 87 Ford Ranger and just have my HD truck and a crossover...the truck and crossover (Forester Wilderness) would handle everything I need...the Forester would be able to handle my camping needs as well as other backroads excursions. Between the 3 Wilderness models with the same Geolandar tires that you have tested in blizzard conditions, which one do you find most composed in these driving conditions? By composed, I mean rear end not spinning out particularly when changing lanes or cornering, vehicle staying well behaved in its lane, that the average mom and pop driver commuting with kids will feel confident about.

    • @AutomotiveAnonymous208
      @AutomotiveAnonymous208  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      They are very similar IMO, especially since they have the same tire. A better winter tire would easily make the difference. The Outback is 1’ longer and has a 9’ wheelbase and the other two have a 8.75’ wheelbase. That minimal difference in length and then the front/rear over hangings of the Outback giving more weight distribution might give it a slight advantage. But they’re all awesome! I did a video where I got my Outback stuck in snow and it actually needed Xmode deep snow/mud to get out, granted my tires aren’t new any more, I’m unsure if I needed the turbo power to break out, or if the non turbo models would have done about the exact same. 🤷‍♂️🙂

    Excellent….it’s always worth considering cars other than Subarus if you plan to use the other awd cars with snow tires. After all, stopping and turning are are just as much a tire provision. Don’t f all into the trap of thinking a Subaru is a replacement for winter tires and that the all terrains on them are as well. In reality, even two wheel drive cars with winter tires are safer than Subarus without in most winter conditions.
