What these compilations don't show you is the HUGE contrast between Adam's performances and the others competing. He was and IS in another league. Loved him then and love him now!
What I always found funny was how quite a few of us followed him prior to American Idol and when hearing Simon call him theatrical we just couldn't stop laughing. Anyone who ever saw the Ten Commandments musical with Val Kilmer and Adam would easily realize that the word theatrical wasn't an insult when used for Adam. He embraced theatrical and it's what helped him win so many fans over.
He can sing anything. I never get tired of his version of "Ring of Fiire." He was SOOOOOO much better than any previous contestant. Nobody ever took over the stage like he did. Such a natural.
Haha! I remember I really liked him on idol but never voted until he did Ring of Fire because I thought “that was amazing” AND “wtf has he done, he’s pissed off so many people now…I have to VOTE!” 😂
Same! By the time, RoF was done, I was standing in front of the tv and a full on Adam Lambert super fan. When Simon said people were going to throw their tvs out the window, I wanted to throw my tv at Simon. It was perfection!
17 years ago. This was 2008, and Adam was 27 he’s 42 now. It was country themed week, and since he’s not a country performer he chose Ring of Fire off the list they were given and went about finding a version he liked online.
Adam was such a star from the start! He has said that he selected his wardrobe for these performances, and how he put together his outfit for the finale performance with KISS is hilarious, his own platform shoes and the shoulder cages from from a local drag store. He was and still is the complete package.
You should react to Adam covering Believe by Cher at the Kennedy Center Honors, honoring Cher and some other people. My favorite performance of his and I've been watching him since American Idol
Yes, this is Adam, huge vocal range, full stage performance, can change his look very often - hairstyle, makeup, clothes, mostly he does everything himself. Even changes to song arrangements are his ideas. Thank you so much for your great reaction!! Can't wait for the second part of it!
Ooooh….I’m in heaven🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰Yeah you guys need to go to season 8 of American Idol and watch all his performances. He changed up every song and was miles ahead of the others. He ENTERTAINED. He was the first contestant on idol that got clearance from Led Zeppelin to cover one of their songs. You haven’t seen anything yet. Thoroughly enjoyed this one guys. Can’t wait for part 2🤗
Each week the contestants are required to sing from a theme like country, Motown, pop, and have to pick from choices of songs available to them. Adam was truly an amazing talent and did better coming in second. He was picked up immediately without the rules set upon the winner. He continues to entertain us today.
@tundiel Now THAT's how you make a cover your own. We are impressed and you certainly know us two, it takes lot to impress us two with covers.😂😂 Plus he has my wardrobe sense, so he must be good
Adam has proven that he can sing any genre of music. His goal on the show was to total contrast the performance from the previous week. The staging, wardrobe and hair styles are Adam providing a complete image for each show. I love when Adam sings Rock, but I thought Tracks of my Tears was brilliant. The breathe control needed for that was extraordinary! Thanks Madison. Can’t wait for part two!!
Back to Adam's Idol performances, really going down a rabbit hole. LOL They are in order by the way. But he changed it up every week, including his looks. It was an amazing journey.
I love watching your reactions to Adam! 🤗 I feel very strongly that he could sing Born to be Wild even better now. He sang Ring of Fire in some shows in 2021 and he can still hit the high notes, but his lower register is more full so it makes the high notes seem even more impressive. And the low notes make it feel almost like a spiritual experience. His 2021 Ring of Fire is the peak of perfection. My dad's first album was Ring of Fire and when I showed him Adam's 2021 version he was not on board at first, but after a few days he texted me and said, "It's growing on me." Same thing happened when he heard Whole Lotta Love. 😄
@einnanoslen Thank you for the lovely comment and the story about your Dad too. Adam is certain growing on us two as well. We were not sure when we started off with this solo song "Velvet", but it didn't take us long to realise Adam is a great singer and he also showed a great sense of humour in the video for "Velvet". We were on board after that and have been very impressed with all the songs we have since heard. More from Adam coming soon. All the best. BPR
I must have voted for Adam a hundred times (we did it by phone back then). Although I watched American Idol for years, Adam was the only person I ever voted for. He's got it all: amazing vocal ability, a unique treatment of each song, creativity, looks, moves, confidence, energy and stage presence. Can't ask for more.
HEY GUYS❤❤ You guys need to watch “The Show Must Go On: The Queen + Adam Lambert Story”. It’s how they came together and I think one of the best documentary I’ve ever seen.
How he did not win this competition is beyond me. He was by far astronomically than anyone else. I love Adam's grin at the end of born to be wild. He is just having fun it seems.
Homophobia most likely. I'm pretty sure they didn't want a gay guy to win 2009 American Idol. There's no other explanation for it because he was better than the other contestants by a long shot and wildly better than the guy who actually won.
Kelly Clarkson is really successful too. It's fitting because I would say they are the two best singers that were ever on that show. Two of the most talented singers I've ever heard, actually.
I think Adam was a force that some ppl watching the show back then weren't ready for! It all worked out well for him ending up touring with one of the best bands of all times~Queen, as well as producing his own music. He's super nice guy also. One of the most polite, down to earth ppl when interviewed. Happy for his success!
I remember being so excited and looking forward every week to see what Adam was going to do next. Voted as much as I could for him. Stopped watching Idol when he didn’t win. I’m over it now though. I think Adam’s success makes up for it.
The Ring of Fire performance was during country week and he was definitely not a country guy, hence the different version of the song. I loved it, but it was very controversial. He got VERY HARSH criticism, to the point Simon called it "absolutely indulget rubbish". But Adam being Adam... guess which were the only two songs from his Idol days that he kept performing during his Glam Nation tour? Yep, Whole Lotta love (you'll see why) and Ring of Fire! 😂
Adam was on another level of talent compared to everyone he was up against that year. It is very interesting how many of those people who were on American Idol and did not win went on to have great careers and how few of the winners did.
Just to add a bit more context for these performances: Part of the Idol process is to give the contestants as much input as they feel comfortable with in terms of their performances. That can range from choosing their song to costuming to musical arrangement decisions, lighting, and what's on that video screen behind them. Adam was the first contestant to embrace the production aspect. As others have noted, he put a lot of thought, and even his own funds into his outfits. But he also worked with the musical director to get the arrangements together, and with production to get what he wanted in the set and lighting. His performances always popped because of that. But I think he was able to raise the game of the other contestants as well, since they could see what was possible -- if they only asked for it.
I have watched Adam since AMERICAN Idol and there is no way he shouldn’t have won. He has gotten better! He is a great entertainer and person. I’m 80years old and love him to death!!
Ahhh, the memories. 🤗😄🤗😄 Great request Madison. He truly can slay any genre. I forgot how much I loved his Idol performances. What an amazing talent. Thanks guys, great reaction, as always. ✌🤗
Honestly, Adam ruined American Idol for me. When he came out the first night and said he was going to sing "Satisfaction" I was like, oh no... there's no way... and then he slayed it... and I was like this guy can not just sing, he has music in his soul.
When he did the audition singing Bohemian Rhapsody, I thought “he should be auditioning to front Queen.” I guess he was. LOL. By the way, you cut it off at the point Simon was going to tell Adam that he was “very dramatic.” As if that’s a bad thing. 😂😂 Do I remember right that he actually took second in this competition (I kind of remember some controversy since some thought that the fact he was openly gay skewed the results)? Despite that, I think that was probably the best possible thing since it freed him up to work with Queen. If he’d gone on solo I’m not sure he’d have gained the audience he has today. It’s fun to watch this old stuff-he’s matured so much as a singer and performer since then. Great reaction!
That's not strictly accurate. He was FIRST Idol to sing Led Zeppelin (and they reportedly did give their permission because they were impressed by Adam's performances). However, that opened the door for future contestants and I know of at least one who sang Zeppelin on the Idol stage.
In country style songs week, when he refused to sing country song and change "ring of fire" into complete different rythmn!!! I mean!!!! Ya... I just fell for him even more! And I'm his fan since then.
I remember being so excited before he took the stage each week! He was a master at making a song his own so you never knew how it would sound…other than amazing, because it always did! I never thought I’d hear a sitar used when listening to “Ring of Fire” ha!
The performances are in chronological order. 5:41 You look like a cross between Alistair Griffin and Judd Trump ... with a touch of Russell Brand. 😄 Adam Lambert was the first on any of these shows to change songs himself. Many of his takes on songs were subsequently performed by others on The X Factor and other such shows, most notably Ella Henderson's version of Believe in The X Factor 2012. 8:54 😁 Spot on! Many said Elvis but my mum, as soon as she saw him that evening said "Tony Hadley!".
He said I ain't afraid of no brothers, I ain't afraid of no shes.... To answer some of your questions, the Ring of Fire production was Adam's version, as well as all the takes and outfits he wears throughout the competition, the only thing is getting his song choices approved by the artist or American Idol as the case may be. There is only a couple of times during the competition that it was the producer's choice but that was closer to the finale.
Where's the satisfaction performance?! WHERE IS SATISFACTIOOOOON?!?! Literally the ice breaker! 😂 Anyway... big thanks to Madison and to you guys. This video brings back a flood of fond memories. I'm really digging the depth of your knowledge and the way you effortlessly weave through references, songs, and songwriters. It's clear you guys know your stuff, and it adds so much more to the discussion. Thanks for sharing your insights, this was truly amazing!
@AP-uq8dj Hello and thank you for the lovely comment and we are now huge fans of Adam's thanks to the lovely Madison. Madison put the compilations together, so we had no idea there was a "Satisfaction" performance missing, that would have been good to see. Madison has provided a Part2 and that is coming out very soon. All the best
@@MadishapesF Haha, Madison, no need to apologize at all! It was just some enthusiastic fan banter, really! In fact, I, along with many of Adam's fans, am incredibly grateful for this brilliant compilation. Thank you.
@@BritPopsReact Great to hear guys, and indeed, a special thanks to Madison. His rendition of the Stones' 'Satisfaction' holds particular significance. It was iconic and pivotal. His technique, range, musicality, phrasing, and overall rendition left the judges, fellow competitors, and audience alike utterly gobsmacked. Looking forward to part 2 and other reactions from you. Thanks again.
Glad you're reacting to these performances, they're still so amazing even so many years later... Simon Cowell loved Adam, thought he was the best performer ever on that show, and the only performer on American Idol he ever gave a standing ovation to. All the judges loved him. It was a travesty that he didn't win cause he was miles ahead and above everyone else on that show, but I guess America wasn't ready for his brand of different. Still, he got hundreds of thousands if not millions of fans out of this show. Not a bad way to launch your career! Even great voices and performers struggle to make it in the music industry, which is probably more about who you know & who you've got pushing you than about talent (there may be exceptions, but just in general)
Ahhh Madi another nice choice! I had heard of Adam Lambert but hadn't paid attention to him before recently. He truly is a very diverse singer and an electric performer. Someone who can successfully cover Queen, George Michael, Michael Jackson, and Johnny Cash and the others who knew? BP1, I'm gonna take a leap and say you weren't keen on having your photo taken in the moment back then. 😂😅
@firefighterchick Both of us had no idea either, we thought he was just the new front man for Queen. How wrong were we. Im gonna take a leap and say the camera was not keen on taking his photo 😂
th-cam.com/video/BEbt6xa7Ny0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=wH1-KxEHE78TTuvj - It's funny that Simon compared "Born To Be Wild" to the musical "Rocky Horror", and years later Adam played there. I remenber critics writing that Lambert is dаmn good and has an innate comedic talant
Saldly, they cut off his performance of "I Can't Get No Satisfaction", by the Rolling Stones. That one was a BANGER too. He blew everyone out of the water. Every performance he did on idol was a banger, I don't remember a single bad one (although Ring of Fire was controversial because of all the changes). Maybe you guys could continue this journey checking out a video with all of his performances (they are short anyway) and not just the "best ones". You may fall victim of a personal choice from who selected the clips and miss super incredible performances! I swear all of them are worthy!
Deserved to be there. Picked perfect song for the first big stage. Next song I didn't really care for (ring of fire). Changed look for nest song but seemed too proper for today. Ended with another great song.
I’m so glad that Adam didn’t “win” Idol. He would have been made to do what the producers wanted instead of the success he’d had and continues to have. Does anyone even know the name of the winner?
This is the audition where Queen saw him and wanted him. Simon was still going thru his homophobic stage sadly. Some country singer no one remembers beat Adam out for first place.
BPs, loving the reaction so far! Re a couple of your comments 😁 BP1, I love the emo hair. Adam’s and your’s Adam’s biggest fan - not nearly! It’s truly amazing how passionate Adam’s fan base is. I am constantly astonished by the love for him and vice versa. I think it speaks to what an amazing human being Adam is 😊 Ring of fire - the Johnny Cash museum in Nashville includes Adam’s version among their top 30 covers - so, Cash approved? 😅 Adam styled all his own looks Yes, performances in chronological order except for moving “Mad World” from part 1 to part 2. I wanted to end on a signature Adam high 😉 Only 8 of 13 performances here. They’re all fantastic but these are my personal favorites Black or White - it’s “shes” not cheese lol Can part 2 live up to this- HA!😄 you still doubt when it comes to Adam?
@MadishapesF Hey Madison, thank you so much for putting the 2 parts together for us. We have really been very impressed with Adam and his performances, he really can sing every style effortlessly We are becoming huge "Glamberts" So thank you very much. Part 2 coming soon. Are you certain it's not "Cheese" 😂
Still think that Adam coming in second was due to his personal life being outed the week? of the final and it was ‘controversial’ 🙃 a lot of homophobic backlash. Worked out amazing in the end with him not being tied by the winner’s contract
What these compilations don't show you is the HUGE contrast between Adam's performances and the others competing. He was and IS in another league. Loved him then and love him now!

Someone who can successfully cover Queen, George Michael, Michael Jackson, and Johnny Cash and the others who knew?
BP1, I'm gonna take a leap and say you weren't keen on having your photo taken in the moment back then. 😂😅
Yes but still be uniquely himself 😊
@firefighterchick
Both of us had no idea either, we thought he was just the new front man for Queen.
How wrong were we.
Im gonna take a leap and say the camera was not keen on taking his photo 😂
@@BritPopsReact 🤣😂
th-cam.com/video/BEbt6xa7Ny0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=wH1-KxEHE78TTuvj - It's funny that Simon compared "Born To Be Wild" to the musical "Rocky Horror", and years later Adam played there.
Agree they’re all fantastic! Sorry for dropping satisfaction!😊
Hello! Nice to see you 😁
Deserved to be there. Picked perfect song for the first big stage. Next song I didn't really care for (ring of fire). Changed look for nest song but seemed too proper for today. Ended with another great song.
You guys should react to Gabriel Henrique. He was on America’s got talent and got the golden buzzer. Prepare yourselves cause he’s out of this world.
I’m so glad that Adam didn’t “win” Idol. He would have been made to do what the producers wanted instead of the success he’d had and continues to have. Does anyone even know the name of the winner?
Nice picture ❤️❤️❤️🤣😂😂🔥
6:30 Pete Wentz with it!
Owww
This is the audition where Queen saw him and wanted him.
Simon was still going thru his homophobic stage sadly. Some country singer no one remembers beat Adam out for first place.
I voted for Adam every time and he came in 2nd. He lost to a very nice man, but I think he should have won
Luckily he didn ‘t win. He would be “owned” by Cowell forever and a day.
Adam is a great singer. 2 others I"d like you to react to are John Farnham-Your the Voice & The Seekers- I"m Australian. Non offical Ozzie Anthums.
@viviennerodgers5351
Hello to you and thank for the comment.
We have reactions to both of your suggestion on the channel.
All the best
Love Adam, but could you react please to Gabriel Henrique new sensation on the moment, He was Golden Buzzer in the AGT.
heads up ... he's singing "I ain't scared of no shes" not cheese 🤣
@celtcwrtr
😂😆 Must be my age
Thanks for the comment
BPs, loving the reaction so far!
Re a couple of your comments 😁
BP1, I love the emo hair. Adam’s and your’s
Adam’s biggest fan - not nearly! It’s truly amazing how passionate Adam’s fan base is. I am constantly astonished by the love for him and vice versa. I think it speaks to what an amazing human being Adam is 😊
Ring of fire - the Johnny Cash museum in Nashville includes Adam’s version among their top 30 covers - so, Cash approved? 😅
Adam styled all his own looks
Yes, performances in chronological order except for moving “Mad World” from part 1 to part 2. I wanted to end on a signature Adam high 😉
Only 8 of 13 performances here. They’re all fantastic but these are my personal favorites
Black or White - it’s “shes” not cheese lol
Can part 2 live up to this- HA!😄 you still doubt when it comes to Adam?
@MadishapesF
Hey Madison, thank you so much for putting the 2 parts together for us.
We have really been very impressed with Adam and his performances, he really can sing every style effortlessly
We are becoming huge "Glamberts"
So thank you very much.
Part 2 coming soon.
Are you certain it's not "Cheese" 😂
Still think that Adam coming in second was due to his personal life being outed the week? of the final and it was ‘controversial’ 🙃 a lot of homophobic backlash. Worked out amazing in the end with him not being tied by the winner’s contract
the lyric is "sheets" most likely a reference to the KKK.
Adam did a lot of unforgettable performances on Idol but Creep wasn’t one of them. Vincint did a memorable version of it though.
Nope. And he changed his own appearance up. And Simon Cowell wasn’t crazy about that performance.
Creep???
He's a greater performer than a singer.
His voice has no range!
That's some transition from "Tracks Of My Tears" to "Born To be Wild" !!!!!!!!!!!! Love it !!!!!!!!!!
