    Oh yeah, those guys rock!!!
Three friends from Sweden, longtime friends from school as well as having studied at one of Sweden’s most highly rated music Conservatoriums. Jonah Nilsson (vocals, keyboards) comes from a classical choir background and has been singing in his parents’s choir from virtually age 1. He also studied piano, classical at first, then going into jazz, and diving into his, as well as Dirty Loops’ catalog, you’ll find many amazing displays of his keys chops.
He started singing as a lead vocalist in bands only later on in life, when he was asked to fill in for another lead singer who had to cancel for some reason. His vocal skills are to die for. Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson are some of his vocal influences, for sure.
ALL of the vocals you hear in this song, are laid down by Jonah, despite appearances. All the choirs and everything ;)
(This video was produced after recording the tracks, and they just thought they mess with us for a bit 😅)
The two other guys, Henrik Linder (bass) and Aron Mellergardh (drums) (hell, I never know whether I’m spelling his name right or not ;) are equally top level musicians.
You’ve picked the bass and his fills, but also his musicality. Henrik is one of the finest young bass players out there at the moment.
And Aron on drums?? Cmon, his chops are unbelievably good.
Yeah, they’re locked in, those two, having often stayed on at the con after hours, just practising pocket and grooves together.
This song has a funky groove to die for, I find. And the way it opens up into total happiness at the end, it’s just so good.
You’ll find many interviews with especially Henrik online, where he explains the thoughts and workings behind this song and many of their other ones.
The poppy sound of Jonah’s voice in the beginning belies all the other nuances he can produce with his voice. They often choose a very simplistic, poppy hook to arrange all the other mindblowing things around. Someone once said that Dirty Loops often come wrapped in a shiny pop packaging, but inside it are multiverses of genre-crossing musical worlds.
No wonder you were confused! 🤣
Listen to it again, alone, with headphones on, and you might hear more amazing stuff.
“Work Shit Out” is absolute fire too, and features Jonah’s skill as a pianist, as well as a ridiculous drum solo by Aron 🔥🔥🔥
    Looking forward to it! 🙏👍

Great comment, as usual! And Aron did spell his name Mellergårdh from the start, but for some reason he dropped the 'h' at the end some years ago, and now his proper/legal surname is Mellergård. And,yeah, I know, we have those pesky extra vowels - å, ä, and ö - that doesn't exist on most keyboards around the world 😅

@@fiddlestix3025Yeah, my guess is he got fed up with having more than one thing in his name that he constantly had to correct and point out to non-Swedes, and there's not much you can do about the 'å', unless you want to change the meaning of the name (into something that doesn't even have a meaning). 😅 And to be fair, the 'h' had no real function there anyways, with today's spelling, and might even have been something put in there by relatives in the past to make the name seem slightly more fancy. 🙂

They were working as session musicians and got together for relief - "to play the music that would get them fired from their jobs." So yeah, it comes from a place of love for the music and joy. They are consummate conservatory musicians despite their loose, multi-genre sound. When they decide to write a song they go into the meeting without instruments, just paper and pencils, to decide what they want to do. They structure it first, and they leave room for improv.

Good reaction! Very good description of how Dirty Loops is just too much to take in, but then you do get taken in by them! They have been known to say something like "less is more? Nooo, more is more". But they make it work, and they make space every now and then. You are perfectly correctly (as a friend of mine says, gives shivers) in that Henrik and Aron are totally locked in!
Work shit out is very interesting, but you could also try something slightly more conventional, but also very uplifting, like Follow the light (collar with Cory Wong and the Horn Heads), or something slightly older and different, like World on fire or Hit me (their original "hit"). There are also old "loopified" covers you can check out, to see their beginnings, and more. Do read the credits, look for goofy stuff.
