That's real talk! When I came back to Birmingham in the early 2000's it seemed like EVERYBODY was "sippin on that lean". That bullshit was the thang....
Sometimes the OG's sound like they talking in circles. Dish out disciplinary actions to those who devalue and terrorize the community OR step aside, focus on building your own legacy and let nature take its natural course. DO WE REALLY GIVE A DAM OR NOT
I hear you, but I don't think so. One of the reasons I follow like I do (and I don't gang bang) is because they are honest and real. As U says, I'm not perfect. What would turn me off is if these platforms started fielding cats talking like politicians do, e.g., gang banging is wrong, lets not reward bad behavior, etc. etc.. When I hear folk talk like that I go the other way cause I know that all they are about, talk, and normally is for their own benefit too. Not saying you are, nor am I criticizing your observation, cause its a legitimate one. Dishing out disciplinary actions means, at least to me, dishing it out to myself as well, cause even though I'm not gang banging, what exactly am I doing to make a community safer? I'm a lawyer, and I see it everyday....the behavior can be the same, but depending on the economics, how it is described and how it is tolerated differs. And I mean that literally. The EXACT same behavior, from shootings, to robbing, to drugs, to whatever. If my client is wealthy and white, how the system even perceives his or her behavior is so so so so different than if that same person is poor and black. I can't even talk about it, to be honest, or I'll be ridiculed. But anybody in the system knows its really....and the kids, the younguns, they damn sure know its real, because they see themselves when they get 20 years for an offense that someone else gets 5 for. And folk can poo poo that all they want....until its them....or their son...or daughter...and then when five years is up, they are getting out, and the other cat has another 15 to do. Real talk. That's the kind of disciplinary action that gets dolled out where I'm from.
@Ahead Of The Curve I think about how different my behavior would be if I was an immigrant, whether illegal or illegal, in say Chad, or Nigeria, or any foreign country....not to mention that its in our collective DNA to be more afraid of each other than folk of different races...that comes from centuries of slavery...my own little world tends to look down on any folk of color that don't have a college degree and in fact post graduate....but I shun that elitist bullshit.....Soldier's Story (either the play or the movie) tells the story better than I....CJ (the "so-called" uncle Tom)....the person (Denzel) who murdered the person who killed CJ...and the black LT (played by Howard Rollins RIP) brought in to catch the murderer...those three people are symbolically the same person...dealing with self-hatred....
@Ahead Of The Curve I really don't disagree with you. But what I am saying to you is that if that is true about them, its true about me, even though I'm in my fifties, I don't gang bang, I have my own law practice....since 1980 I have preferred hard core hip since 1980 that won't change til I die....I hate King Von isn't with us anymore, his music was fire!!!!!...I try not to separate myself....cause if I did, I wouldn't be engaging in this interesting "convo" with you cause I would feel to do so in this sort of forum would be beneath me.....nor am I "slumming" (what a fucking pejorative that is but its a line from a movie I like and I use it even in court) to be cute....I engage cause I enjoy and believe....
How can others help with this and grow this thing worldwide? We don't need to shoot or fight we need to unite, envolve, and develop. I'm with it, lmk how I can help. Salam Ahki
Influence one of the circles in the place where u reside. Sn: use your skill set to show them what u know the ins & outs of, and become aware of where 2 direct them for things u are not as in-tune with.
Key word's "it's not happening in the pen" that's only because there's no guns. But on the streets there's plenty of them to make a person feel like he doesn't have to listen.
Very interesting point. The guns change the equation, and even if u are the type that isnt fearful of that dynamic... u don't want to have to shoot or kill some1 just to get them to pay attention or recognize u are looking to direct them (and those they influence) to a better space.
@@shamirbrown8160 I didn't mean it like that. All I'm saying is the older generation didn't lead by example because they was setting the younger up for failure , so in the pen u got these supper buff cat intimidating the younger to listen. I agree with Big U and James. If they could bring that same we have to stick together mentality out on the streets. I think that we can be able to come together as a race. And I also think that LA can set that trend. The one thing that we have to remember, realize and recognize. That them people dont want to see us coming together and getting along. They're going to do everything in their powers to distract us. So we have to stick together.
