How do i ask coach Rip a question? I want to know what the work:rest ratio is for starting strength. I'm sure it has been stated. I have not read the book and i'm sure its in there. I have listened to almost all of the youtube videos and I don't recall hearing the rest period between sets. Thank you coach Rip. I'm getting stronger since doing your program minus the squat. I cannot get my shoulder under the bar. To remedy this I bought a ss yoke bar(safety squat bar) Wondering your thoughts on that type of squat bar also? Please don't kick my ass too hard.haha. or do. I'll use it for motivation.
I disagree with the "no technique steroids" bit. Being strong enough in specific positions is a big part of proper weightlifting technique. If your legs or back arent strong enough to lift properly, you will start committing technique errors in order to compensate. Steroids, by increasing strength, can indeed improve technqiue.
If your legs and back aren't strong enough to lift the weight, the weight is too heavy. If your form breaks down, the weight is too heavy. Therefore you should back the weight off and fix the form and build up. Because form and diet are the main reasons you can't get stronger. You should really read starting stength fully and understand it before you criticise this podcast
You are misintrepretting my message. All I said was that steroids can improve technique by increasing strength in certain postures and movements. I never said they were the only way to get better, or neccesary to get better, nor did I say steroids are more important than diet and training. If you want to claim steroids arent useful and arent used by elite weightlifters than thats a different debate.
the observation of what strength is in a linear line lifting such as powerlifting is not the most complete way to describe strength, it is a very useful way but not absolute. joint preparation is one of the key ingredients to gain strength, a fine example of this would be gymnastics using the gymnastic rings , they rely heavily on joint preparation to move in different angles, another fine example would be eddy hall ankle injury, that might be prevented with more flexibility/mobility in his ankle, again i say might. if strength would rely solely on linear movements such as in powerlifting, we might be very stable and balance moving in straight lines, but as soon as we break the line, we might get broken ourselves, not all people that moving in different ways are "monkeying around", some explore the true body abilities which remain unknown. some do monkey around, or clowning, or just being complete idiots. anyhow im a great fan, i bought the starting strengh book and it helped me tremendously. thanks for the insights !!!
How does barbell training transfer to movement in all three planes? It doesn’t ! A lack of ROM in the transverse plane which is caused by axial loaded exercises performed in the frontal plane which are the movements you preach. You are a relic of your time and people are starting to question this limited way of thinking, and those who still listen are asking themselves why are they injured all the time.
Ivan Sunara movement specific to a sport or activity should be practiced in the field, not in the weight room where the goal is to gain more force production across the whole body in its natural movement patterns and thus uses all muscles appropriately.
Alex Minor how does overloading muscles in a limited ROM thru the frontal plane transfer to a sport that isn't mostly about being heavier then the other guy? Let's take it to the extreme, have you ever seen a powerlifter or a strongman run? Do you know why they run like they s#!+ their pants? Its because they are lacking rotation in the t-spine and their sling systems are all screwed up causing them to rotate from joints that aren't ment for rotation hence the ACL tears and such
Patrick Connolly do you believe in evolution? How do you adopt to run? You don’t need to adopt to run you can only degenerate your body so you can’t run anymore. Every child can run so why do we need to “adopt” to it again? Building muscle is ok but in what context? How is prioritizing the barbell lifts thru the frontal plane good for any sport that’s played in all 3 planes (almost all of them). Try to connect the dots...
Ivan Sunara Practice running. And they’ll get more efficient at running. You have to adapt to the stress of running. Your motor pathways become more efficient.
As always learning from Rip .
Don’t know what happened with barbel medicine, but am staying with starting strength. Period.
Wreak havock Listen to both and let science point you to the truth.
Preach, pastor Rip!!
Bless you Rip!

because their body weight is high to lift more weight. i think you will shit your paint if you at theirs bodyweight
