That’s a beautiful old General. My uncle had one it was painted up like the one on Smokey and the Bandit. Loved that truck. He paid 35,000 for it in 1979. lol!!!
Drove a General back in the 80's for a few days, it had a 3406A and a 13 speed, nice enough truck but the steering wheel must have had 35 revolutions to go from lock to lock and the service air tank was under the passenger seat so all day long you listened to it moaning and groaning as the air pressure rose and fell. Nice videos Red, keep up the good work!
You offered that the tractor was not originally a 250” wheelbase. I wonder about the factory setup, there HAD to be something unsatisfactory about it for it to sit 2 YEARS on a dealer lot. Beautiful rig as it sits today, many thanks for featuring it!
Trucks like this are the real work horses of our way of life. They keep things moving. The things they carry are like the blood and nutrients the body needs to keep functioning.
Being of the younger generation I never got to see these GMC's on the road, but I sure do recognize that interior! Same wood dash that was in our old chevy camper van. So funny to recognize the interior but see it in a class 8 truck instead of the famliy camper van 🤣🤣
Just…AWESOME!! I always loved the look of The GMC GENERAL!! What would power it but a Detroit Diesel!! PLEASE do ANY videos of a Chevy Titan v12 or a Mack Liberty Edition! 😎🔥👍🏾🚛😆
That's one sweet Genaral! Have you ever done a video on this Tackaberry collection? Just curious how many trucks they have and if they are all show trucks or do they work some of them?
There’s a playlist of videos of their trucks on my channel. The collection is private, so I only share videos of trucks that are at shows, and only after discussing with the family.
I drove a general back in 1999 one of her older trucks but let me tell you the truck could pull ran over 100 miles an hour had a 13 speed in it with a Detroit engine in it nobody like driving that truck but I did awesome trucks these generals in their time
I drove those in the mid 70s but they were bare bones short wheelbase day cabs. Spring suspension no air ride anything except for the drivers seat. On rough roads these rigs beat you too death.
@@MissFlatbedRed just My luck I remember that there was a Local company hauling Gasoline when they traded the truck there was three people wanting it, never hit the sales lot. LOL
0:18 Hello miss Red, I have some Question for you and it make me real Curious😂😂hehehe.... Are the GMC General truck' doors really made of Fiberglass??🤔 (I'm From Indonesia By the way, so I'm Interesting to a American Classic Semi-Truck😂. Cause in my country The Truck like that isn't Exist) thank you for Attention😊
I drove 3 different Generals in 45 years of trucking all company trucks,,Because I would never own one myself,,the dash on these trucks just riddle from day one and the mirrors you could never fine pinch anything in them special if you had a big Detroit in it,,
Would have loved to be able to enjoy those times from the drivers seat but atleast I got to shift through the gears from the passenger seat with my uncles every weekend they taught me how to drive a truck and shift the gears and take off from a stop by saying ok now get ready ok shift it up let it go and send it home or I’m going to jump in the sleeper for a nap when the trucks move up u know what to do just wake me when we’re next to scale. Man I miss them days now nobody even uses there cbs and the interior of trucks is just mediocre no more custom centerion wood trim like this general just black grey or sometimes tan no red or blue or any that sort anymore sux really
Very nice truck, Morons and GMC and Star Rio use to make very very nice trucks, the price was high for these trucks, no wonder the truck did sit unsold, the problem was service and warranty and the trucks were made in limited numbers, so this would end in GAME OVER for these companies, another problem with these trucks was they are very nice but not reliable, and as we all truckers know the reliability is #1 as truck go, a truck that is in a shop that is a bad news !!!. TH

Those wooden cabinets are really beautiful someone did some really nice work
Classic. Really love the truck. When the door opened in this, music came into mind. Really
That old girl brings back a lot of memories,
The real feeling To drive à truck came with these beautys

Given that the sleeper is aftermarket, and so is the wheelbase, I wonder if it was a super short day cab that didn't garner much interest?
Now that’s a cool truck
Fantastic looking ride
My favorite truck of this era. I would love to own one.

My first job was driving (Learning) with my step-father in his 1978 GMC General pulling Flat-bed B-trains for Cougar Freight Systems.
Beautiful i wish I owned this beautiful classic truck 😊

Wow, that is an amazing to find a truck like that in that condition. Real large car too. That's some big HP.
I have a whole playlist of trucks from their collection. All in excellent condition.
@@MissFlatbedRed when are they giving you the Brougham?
I blindly replied to that not realizing it was you 😆 and I’ll take a giant red bow this year and see how it goes 😂

love it.
A family friend ran several Generals in his Fleet. I never drove one though. Dad being a KW, Autocar and Peterbilt fleet..
The dash looks kinda like what you’d find in my grandpa’s old pick up.
What a cool General.

Best truck I ever drove. Mine had a 36 in sleeper
Me and this truck are both 42 years old
nice!! no wood corners!
Love me a General, especially Jimmy powered examples.
Exquisite 👌, but needs a 2nd air cleaner👍✌️
Very nice. How many trucks did he bring to the show?
Given its right down the road from them, a lot. You can see many of them on my playlist specifically of their trucks.
That GMC General is a first for me. Beautiful condition. Was it restored ? Thanks MFR
It’s as it always has been.
@@MissFlatbedRed I love restored but original is special too
I owne 8 generals show and work some every day pulling 3 and 4 axle trailer's Cummins Detroit and cat power
Looks like a mack superliner
I own 3 Generals.
I think this is the only one in the Tackaberry’s 250+ truck collection.
Is this Truck up for Sale I would Love to purchase this unit
Nope, it’s part of a private collection.

Can you please spell the sleeper name? It was hard to hear. Shawnaback?
Shawnabec :)
@@MissFlatbedRed thank you!
that 70's - 80's style interior reminds me of the days when most drivers hoped in the cab with a large mug of beer & lit up a cigarette
Use to work on thoughs old girl 400 big cam Cummins.
Sweet looks great
I’m getting so many Smokey and the bandit 2 vibes
Um sonho , quem me dera trabalhar com essa máquina 😢, aqui no Brasil só tem carroça tecnológica feita de plástico 😅
Used to haul logs with a General with the old screamin jimmy in it
