This series is perfect for anyone working on a GS550 cafe racer, scrambler or bobber or even GS750. Also helpful to anyone doing a restoration or rebuild on a vintage motorcycle, including CB750, CB550, or CBAnything. Or if you simply like custom vintage motorcycles and garage mechanics.

Hey Mike, so psyched that I found your channel! I am just starting a rebuild of my 1982 Suzuki GS750E into a Cafe Racer, hopefully completed by next fall. I don't intend to do any engine work, although I am enjoying watching your engine rebuild videos. Your videos have given me more confidence on my project as it is also a test of my mental abilities in taking on something without knowing everything about it. I don't have the technical skills you have but am extremely handy and creative. Great to see you've invested in a new camera and lights and as I keep watching, I'm hoping a better microphone was your next purchase. Anyway, keep up the good work!

They are quite similar. That's why they call them UJMs - Universal Japanese Motorcycle. Thanks for watching!

Thank God you've 'only' got 4 cylinders and 2 valves per cylinder.

My other bike has 2 cyl and 4 per, so I didn't improve my situation any. Well, I gained fuel injection so I guess I did some. 🙂

Going thru same shim guessing game, where did you order the shims from? Thanks for the great videos.

Thanks for watching! I got all my shims off eBay. Better prices, especially if you're not in a hurry for delivery.

Do I have to shim or can I just put it back together

That depends on what you're doing to the valves when you have the out and what your current clearances are. If you are lapping the valves then you'll need to swap and/or replace nearly every shim, most likely. I've got a video on measuring shim clearances too.
