      David Aguayo Thanks for watching! Yeah, the journey is as fun as riding it someday. I got to ride this one for a year before I pulled it apart, so I know that, and it's great, and I can wait.

    My GS550 doesn’t have that bridge in the middle I am not sure if that is because it’s a different year. However the timing is at T and the 2 and 3 are pointing up and they are 20 links apart. I noticed the chain isn’t exactly tight. Should there be some slack in it?

      The cam chain tensioner should be eliminating slack. Check to see if it is worn to service limit or stuck. Perhaps tapping it loose will engage it. Thanks for watching!

      That's fantastic! Thanks. I'm close to riding mine too, but just have some other hurdles to get over (family and home ownership stuff.) I'm thrilled I could be of service.

    Hi there. I was hoping that I would find out more about chain tensioner and how to install it the right way. I did everything like you did and i can see any slack in chain, but when i start engine there is some clanking sound like chain. Any advice for me m8? 🙂

      Sorry for late reply. TH-cam didn't alert me of your comment. Had to hunt for it. The service manual details the process for "releasing" the rod inside that tensioner. Not sure if you've referenced that. Does your tensioner function properly on your workbench? Can you move the rod in and out with your thumb?

    Wouldn't the cam grind into the aluminum and make it unusable

    Hi, I'm from Argentina and I would like to know if the valves taqueria cubes, from the suzuki gs 750 1979, also go to the suzuki gs 850 1979. because they are the only ones I get here in Argentina. If anyone knows, I would appreciate your HELP. Thank you

    What would you charge to rebuild my 550 engine

      Thanks for watching! I couldn't offer to do that for you. My professional life keeps me too busy and if I charged a reasonable hourly wage you wouldn't like the total quote amount. These things can only be rebuilt with passion. Dollars don't make sense.

    Will a1979 engine work on a1980 gs550

      Great question! I would need to take some measurements of the 79 frame vs the 80 frame. They're different part numbers but that doesn't mean the mounting points have moved between years. What mostly changed was the carburetors so I question if there would be potential interferences there. So in short, my guess is yes it'll fit, but I just don't have enough information to be sure. Thanks for watching!

    I really like your videos if you could help me I have a suzuki gs 850 year 81 I changed the engine gasket and the pills that go on the valves fell out and I see that they all have a number now I don't know which one goes in which.?

      @UrbanMonkTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe you are referring to the shims. If so, you will just have to put them back in and measure the clearance you have in each and then adjust them so each is within the specs I mention in my video on the topic. The first try will be a guess, but from there you'll eventually figure out which goes where. Some (or possibly all) of them could have been out of spec to begin with so it really doesn't matter that much. You want to measure them all anyway to know for sure. You may have to order some new ones in different sizes to get them in spec. Easy to find on eBay.
