- The Karnataka government has put on hold a bill mandating reservations for locals in the private sector after a huge backlash from the industry. The government will have a relook at the bill before it is tabled in the state Assembly.

nurses all over the country are mainly malyalis, so if the hospitals have to fire them who is going to take their place? not enough locals taking up nursing. provide more training and get the locals to be in a place to compete with the rest for the job , this should not be done through reservation.

Karnataka govt may modify but not dump the reservation bill. Local Kanadigas have suffered hugely by the huge migration to Bangalore and what have they got. Pollution, water shortage, cutting trees and making this beautiful into a concrete jungle.The retired paradise has turned into a nightmare. Price rise in real estate making it unaffordable to locals and after all that they are told not to aspire even for class 3 & 4 jobs. Surely these are not the jobs the Expats and techies aspire. They are support jobs. The scaremongering that IT firms will runs away is a bogey. They are here for the climate (or whatever remains of it)

The Constitution of India doesn't allow this. The act won't pass the legal test as it failed in the case of Haryana and AP. Instead of doing such things, govt. should train local youths from school levels so that they can get into IITs and other premier engineering colleges of the nation. Automatically they will get the chances then.
Was disappointed seeing an educated professor espouse such regressive thinking. Quota systems are the bane of progress. The world is going about breaking barriers in the age of globalization and here it seems to be going the other way around.
We don’t want any Indian companies in Karnataka. We have enough MNC’s in Karnataka. All other Indian investors please go to Bihar,UP, Rajastan,West Bengal ,Madyapradesh,Orissa and north east states. We don’t want to loose Kannada culture in Karnataka anymore.

There must be some priorities and preferences for Kannada medium students. The bitter truith is that kannadigas are not allowed to work in any surrounding state and if a tamilian or keralian joins a company, he will make sure only their language speaking people get the job

This professor doesn’t understand how hiring works. Companies always benefit from hiring locals over non locals.
Bangalore has everything that no other city and state has. Industry has so many advantages in Karnataka no where else they get. Locals should get jobs locally. Let other people or state should improve their own infrastructures so that they employ THIER own

Actually it is a very bad idea and can understand that it is just score politically. In my experience if locals are appointed in worker level completely, the domination will spoil the work efficiency. Locals don't come to job on Mondays, some distance relatives death , some functions in family etc. If you remove one person from job for bad behavior then ten people will leave the job following him. Ask for advance money and leave the job and many such things happens. In managerial level the demand for the job (qualification and experience)will not be meted out by the percentage demands. Will the govt undertake such losses mentioned above ? If answer is no the who will compensate the loss?
Why Karnataka and other few states only jobs what about other states those are floated with more population…? Why we want suffer in the name of country let other states to develop and keep there in their states and don’t worry about what would happen if other states skilled not coming to our states.
One thing is sure if other wouldn’t come to our states then in the beginning we may face some challenges but within few years we will stand on our own strength and compete with the than unnecessary competing with other states people

The assumptions seem. To be that
1. Kannadigas don't form a significant chunk Already.
2. Kannadigas are discriminated against when two candidates are found to be equal.
3. There is Enough labour force that we don't need migrants.
These should be validated. May be that the govt is fighting a phantom non real issue.
Migrant based economies will be multi lingual and multi cultural. It is a confluence.
It's going to happen in Hyderabad soon too. I don't know weather this kind of reservations stand at courts or not.
If in case courts accepted this kind of bills, it will change everything. Later all caste politics will reach to private sector for their part of reservations.

Nobody works hard in their own state and homeland. It is the same everywhere. The migrants always work harder and usually for less pay, which is why the employers (usually mostly locals?) want to hire the immigrants to extract labour for less. Then when this starts happening on a larger scale the locals start getting hit financially then they cry... when migrants face issues they keep mum. This issue has become an issue because of problems on both sides, you cannot have a scapegoat and blame only a few people or problems.

Never seen this happening to me. I'm a Kannadiga and i have had bosses from various states and also have people from different states reporting to me. Never ever felt anyone discriminated - afterall we hire people to help us accomplish company goals, not to socialize. This is pathetic thinking
