    Well, I definitely won't be wearing over sized jeans! They make people look sloppy whether it's a trend or not. I do, however, like the darker blue color of jeans and will be looking forward to getting some. Just wish the distressed jeans would go away for good! The cable knit and fair isle sweaters look so cozy and warm and love that look as well.

    Looks like the 80s are back!? And 80s version of the 20s? What do you recommend for wearing vintage in a way that it looks like a costume? Wait, do those jackets have shoulder pads? For larger jeans, how do you keep them up without a bunchy look at the waist when you add a belt? Time to see what's stored in my mom's closet😊 Love the Brigerton effect- so pretty and feminine. Thanks, Audrey , lots to talk about here. What makes a trend and how is it determined ? Of course, high fashion floats down to retailers, but what determines a zeitgeist? Would be interesting to analyze this Fall's message. What do you think?

    • @heidilarson5109
      @heidilarson5109 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      "What makes a trend and how is it determined ?" Justine Leconte on TH-cam talks about trends. Good designers look at bigger themes in the world and design to address them. Things like lockdowns and uncertainty leading people to crave comfort (neutral colors, athleisure.) Then, people get bored of casual clothes and swing the other way for formal clothes and brighter colors.
      Think even bigger than the TV shows and fashion houses. How are people feeling and how will they express that with clothes? Popular trends catch on in part because the subconsciously speak to people. Of course there's also industry changes with new fabric technology (think how DVF used knit cotton to make a wrap dress, or how cotton had a bad year, and synthetic blends surged.)

    • @berliozchick
      @berliozchick 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@heidilarson5109 Sure, but that's a general view (and with many exceptions: some dressed up more during lockdown, wore more makeup and even had cosmetic enhancements all to look good on Zoom). In these generalized terms, the trend can be dependent on the buyer, who buys what and what become popular with the consumer, or with the subculture. One can also pick and choose particular similarities across designers, such as recurring colours or shapes each season. Definitely a topic for a thesis, sort of like how Economics runs on emotion, haha. But I'm more curious about the specifics of zeitgeist: as in why such an 80s focus? We are not in a similar time, world theme, nor political circumstances. I can interpret what I think, though I'd be interested in Audrey's perception.

    Maybe it's a silly question, but I never understood how trends form... Like I suppose all the designers are not out here copying each other until there's a proper and cohesive trend appearing for the season... Does anyone have an explanation? I know there's a whole thing around pantone for colors, but otherwise...

      @@heidilarson5109 an interesting explanation, thank you :) ! I didn't think before that designers were trying to "express the world as it is", I thought that big designers were mostly trying to express their own opinions, style etc as an individual, I didn't see the global aspect of it!

    Hi Audrey. My name is Michelle and I live in Canada. I have watched a few of your videos and I love your soft spoken voice. I'm over 60 and it is so nice to know that others follow slow fashion. I have been wearing clothes that I love ever since I was a teenager. My mom taught my sister and I all about our colours and helped us discover our own style. I have always worn black, grey, navy, pink and purple when no one else was. People would say I wasn't wearing what was in fashion at the time. I would smile and say 'Thank you'. I think each of us are unique no better than anyone else, but also no less. Thank you for the content of your videos. I will be watching more.

    About 6 years ago, I switched to only wearing indigo/dark wash jeans. They are ALWAYS chic and I'm so excited that they will be easier to find! I have to really dig through stores to find a pair that (a) fits me properly and (b) is free of rips and fading. Pair these with a tailored blouse or blazer and it's a perfect outfit for work environments with a more casual vibe, or just going out and about!

    I have bought two vintage fitted button up vests and love the over shirts and thinner sweaters.I cannot wear oversize bec I a figure 8 with hip flared out hip and 38D at 5ft 4in..I look like a walking truck in oversize anything. On tall skinny girls it is an interesting style. Bootcut I can wear and have in dark denim. I wear only dark denim anyway and save jeans for decades...I rotate them to be somewhat not out of style. I know the shades and tints of colors that look best on me and stick with those...I stay away from unflattering colors when they are in style. Easier now that neutrals are so popular. My body is too curvy for 20s styles. nOt a problem there is always something appealing for sale to add to my wardrobe. I do buy mostly vintage or end of season to buy hugher quality fabrics. Love that cropped blazer and will be looking for some in my colors.

    Literally went out and bought a second hand 1920s inspired beaded mini dress after you posted this! The drop waist is a silhouette I wasn’t able to figure out when it was popular in the mid-2000s/early 2010s, but I’m hoping I’ll have more luck this time around!

    I’ve been looking forward to your video on fall trends..I am very excited to get my fall/Winter clothing I’ve packed away...sort through looking for in trend pieces. It all looks a bit 1970 with what we call tank tops and waistcoats and trouser suits. I’m really looking forward to wearing these. My mother in law knitted in 2 100% arran wool natural colour in 1984 and they are so beautifully knitted I packed them away - so I’m looking forward to getting these out! I love the 1920 vibe, I’ve got some cloche felt hats I bought 10 years ago, so I’ll be getting those out. The Regency vibe is lovely, I’ve got Beaded bags and beaded jewellery. I like the new LBD - I have some white collars I can attach. I’m going to fit my LBD a bit closer. I’m also excited about the indigo - that’s what I’m going to buy! Also I think I’ll be buying Lavender colour something. Loving it all. Thanks Audrey. ...think I’ll watch your video again😊

    I would never do the over sized denim jean trend. I'm 5ft 1 inch, and it would completely swamp me!! I think you have to be tall to carry that one off. I agree about cropped jumpers, I too have a short torso, and I found a crop jumper at H&M that fitted me so well, I bought it in every colour they had :D I've had them a few years now, and they were a great buy. I can get on board with the slight boot cut jean, I do find that style really elongates my legs.

    • @joelleaittama1416
      @joelleaittama1416 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think over sized may be fine for a thin person, but can be taken as sloppy on someone that carries any extra weight. Two sizes bigger?

    • @Fiobo823
      @Fiobo823 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@joelleaittama1416 If you have long legs you can pull it off, maybe. But two sizes bigger on me would look ridiculous! Especially when you think that denim is a thicker material, so too much of it makes it bulky.

    Great tips Audrey! With the dark denim again just go with what you feel fits with your wardrobe and your own preferences. While it’s flattering on most people, sadly it just makes me look matronly and I have not tried any dark blue wash jeans that I like so I’m going to stick with the washes I already have.

    I’m so about the burgundy coming back in. I am cooled toned but loooove reds of any tone. I also am here for the Bridgerton effect. Probably not going to do the crop jackets but will be doing the tailoring. And I already have my eye on some chunky 1980’s or older styled sweaters.

It just adds a timelessness that the otherwise short-lived, newly made trend pieces don’t have. I am very excited for fall as it is my favorite season and I have revamped my wardrobe and found some really awesome pieces secondhand! I’m really excited to see how you style some of these trends in a timeless, classic fashion!

    I scored a like-new lavender cashmere sweater from ThredUp earlier this year for about $20. That's a good place to look for sweaters. Be sure to look at the chest width and length dimensions though. Wish they would do that for jackets & coats too. I have been finding some folks re-sell on these sites when they have shrunk something in the wash.
