      You do know what illegal means right? That is not a journey to be legal, that's a journey to subvert our laws and cut the line in front of the people who actually respect the sovereignty of this country. Try doing what they did to ANY country but the US and you'll get a range of jail, hard labor, getting shot on sight, or thrown the fuck out immediately.
      And the majority of LEGAL immigrants would love nothing more than to slap that woman in the face and toss both her and her daughter right back out.

    Many people do wait in line to try to come here legally but the U.S. only gives out about 25,000 work visas a year. It's incredibly difficult and for those saying "well, my family came here the right way a long time ago" back then there was virtually no way to come here illegally because we had very few immigration laws. If you came from, say Holland in the 1880s, you were just accepted here.

      In their shoes, wouldn't you? Just across that border, even working in some of the worst jobs for long hours and low pay, your child has access to better education and better opportunities. Your grandchildren will be citizens, and none of them will have to worry about cartels taking over the town and killing people in the streets.

    • @MrCal2648
      @MrCal2648 8 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      We need comprehensive immigration reform to streamline the process and allow more visas among other things. Also, 70% of Americans have broken the law and a crime serious enough to land them in prison, whether it's something as common as illegally downloading a song. My point is that people shouldn't act "holier than thou" and realize not all crimes are the same. Illegally entering the country to escape drug cartels that cut off people's heads so that you can ensure your children a better life isn't the same as killing someone or committing a violent crime, etc.

    Beautiful filmmaking. It's heart-wrenching to think about the difficult journeys and lengths that some people go to escape the horrors of their countries and strive to be a part of the American dream. "I lift my lamp beside the golden door." America is the land of opportunity, and the fact that it has been that for all people, not just those lucky enough to be born here, is what has made, and does make our country strong, and great.

      You are in awe of the story involving the good ones. But you are not taking into consideration the bad ones. What don't you understand about this? I get it. We all do. You want the good ones to have their shot. But this is where logic(Republicans) and emotion(Democrat) collide. You are blinded by the uplifting and sad stories and completely disregarding the bad shit that SOME of these immigrants do. The reason is because you personally have not and never will be effected negatively by a criminal illegal. If you were a part of Kate Steinle's family though, then you would think differently, after she was raped and killed by a man who was living in SF, a sanctuary city, after being deported unsuccessfully 5 times. Wake up. Please wake up.

    People who are commenting that this ad promotes or glorifies illegal immigration missed the point of the ad. The door is there symbolically. It represents the solutions that we have yet to define for the spot we're in with immigration today whereby many people have been here working for some time or were born here, or who are escaping horrors in their home country, and we don't have a workable path to citizenship for them or their parents. The team who built the door represent the hearts and minds of people who value our immigrant heritage and want to enable immigration to continue via workable, sturdy solutions, just as a door is a workable way to pass through a wall. The people in the ad can be any of us ... those who are immigrants themselves or descendants of immigrants, like me, and also people who roll up their sleeves and build solutions, also like me. I believe this ad is intended to:
    1. get us to ask ourselves what kind of people and country we want to be ... compassionate and open to new people while also smart enough to keep people safe or people who live inside walls high enough to block out the suffering and the beautiful diversity outside those walls;
    and
    2. challenge us to think in new ways to find solutions to this complex situation. No one expected that the wall would have a door. What solutions are we not even considering because we're too busy arguing and judging and spewing uninformed views? We're America. We've long been a people of ingenuity and fortitude. If anyone can figure this out, it's us! Let's get to work on real solutions, and keep our country safely welcoming to the diversity of talent and humanity that created the audacious idea of America in the first place. I believe these truths to be self-evident.
    Thank you 84 Lumber. ☮️ ✌️️

      84 should not have used that symbolism. Too vague. Maybe if they showed her going to an immigration office and filing the required forms, after she realized there is a wall, would have been better. Also when they show the construction workers, it makes you think they're building the wall to keep her out. But at the end they actually built a door /gate to make it easy for anyone to get in illegally (that's what it seemed to me).

    • @TheWeecheng

      then why not come in legally? promote a video that shows the documenting process of a mother and daughter legally getting in through legal permits and such.
      Though we are all humans, but accepting illegal immigrants in is unjustifiable basing on that factor. Then what bout living creatures? Animals entering into a lion's den? should we stop the livelihood of the lion not eating them because cats and dogs just wants a warm cozy environment in the den? If laws are basing on feelings of compassion then what is justice different from revenge. There is a proper way for immigration laws and that was set in place for people to follow.
      I agree the problem is complex and the long term solution is not just a wall, however in short term the wall will help american economy and job stability for the citizens. I suggest you may watch this video whereby democrats agree with building the wall /watch?v=JQJlmFqUA8w

      Brandon Long I believe everyone is tired of the liberal b s referring to illegal immigrants as simply immigrants. if "they" of any nation are here illegally they are illegal immigrants. My great great grandparents came here legally from Ireland trying to make a better life. I do empathize with the Mexican people but they don't have to come here illegally. Nothing is free. Eventually the honey hole is going to dry up.

    Every year thousands of men, women and children die in the deserts of northern Mexico and the US southwest. If there were effective control of that border and all of those people who will die in the "Journey" knew it, they would not set out and would live. 84 Lumber is complicit in the deaths of those people. We cannot call ourselves compassionate if we continue to let this carnage go on. The border fence or wall or whatever you choose to call it absolutely must be built and the laws of the country must be enforced.

    This commercial undermines the process and struggles of immigrating to America legally. My grandparents and parents all went through extreme hardships to come to America. My mom was only 13 and my grandfather was in the Navy. He fought along side Americans in Vietnam with lasting bullet wounds as reminders. On their way to the US my family was forced to stop in numerous countries, faced near starvation, and fought through rough seas on cramped boats just to get here. The stories of hardship my mom has told me of her childhood are endless, but my family went through all this to come to America for a better life, and did so with respect for American laws and customs. My mom now has her Masters degree and is a school teacher. She worked hard getting her and worked hard to make a good living in America. Glorifying coming to America illegally insults both mine and any other families that have struggled through the process to come to this country legally.

      Acewingman my issue is that the commercial is promoting doing so illegally. It doesn't entail the struggles that were also the processing and work to get certified green cards into the country. Granted I didn't write out that part of story so that's my fault. Immigration itself is not bad america is melting pot and it is great because of it, but the immigrants should have enough respect for the country they are wanting to make their new home to do so in accordance to the new countries laws. Getting a visa is the hard way to do it and that's why I'm saying this commercial undermines legitimate immigration. I mean all they had to do was have a small cut in of them signing some papers and the commercial would have a different meaning, but if they did that they would have to fight the issue of being labeled racist. As an ad it a lose lose even though amazingly touching story. The girl making the American flag is adorable and heart wrenching.

    • @theflyingmario1
      @theflyingmario1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Trancedance23 I suppose that is true and I do greatly sympathize with anyone having to fight those issues. That being said is it the job of America to simply void immigration law and allow all who come? Even in spite of immigrant who are not as well mannered? Canada is doing much better then the states in term of illegal immigrants currently and that's because their immigration laws are way more rigorous. Europe is more lenient and currently having an extreme rape epidemic due to large immigration from country's in which raping women isn't demonized. So where the middle ground? Also should America for go it's own internal issues in favor of fixing others? Immigration is a hard topic but I just don't believe glorifying the act of illegally doing so is the right thing to do.

      Ok so say we have our borders open right? All the Mexicans will come here and then America will be worse than Mexico is right now, I mean we are already drowning in debt. If we built a wall however, it would create many American jobs and encourage legal immigration , plus we would become wealthier by making a tax on immigrants. It would help the U.S. as a whole and might even kick start the economy to grow and get us out of debt. But what do I know? I am just an inhumane person who needs to get out of this country.

    Your family heritage did not begin in the united states that's a fact in
    your time of need righteousness did not discriminate against you and
    for the record you will never win the challenge of your own negative
    actions on a positive level many have tried and painfully failed keep
    thinking otherwise and your actions will teach you a lesson you will
    never forget when you least expect it in your time of need! you need to
    learn a history lesson about your own family take a DNA test on Ancestry
    23andme or familytreedna then you will learn the fact that you are
    related to the people you learned to hate by choice! i have a DNA 4
    generation cousin who is white from Texas he is 89 years old looks like
    the whitest white man you ever seen and you would say our common
    ancestor is white and you would be very wrong because the common
    ancestor that connects us is Black! so next time before you hate and
    judge others do your own homework on your own family history you been
    carrying it around in your DNA your whole life also for the record being
    sick in the hospital waiting on donor list for a life saving organ is
    not disgusting let that sink in the next time you feel the need to
    discriminate against someone...

      That was 500 years ago, when the US was undiscovered and Europeans settled here. There were no borders. There was no country. Once the borders were set in place, and the country started to grow, immigration laws were put into place to both protect the country and regulate its citizens.
      Trying to guilt trip anti-illegal immigrationists into accepting your way of thought is disgusting. Because the thing about illegal immigration is that it is FUCKING *ILLEGAL*. We saw imagrants crossing everyday. I will never forget seein Mothers carrying infants being followed by little children crossing frightened and running from the border patrol. Hunted down like dogs. I would see Little boys no more than 10 years old hiding in the bushes, making the crossing all alone. A couple time we gave these frightned kids all alone rides to the trolley because we new it was the right thing to do.I worked and lived with these people and never 1 time ever had a problem stealing work from me are doing crimes. It's practically impossible for them to come in to this country without having family living in the US that are citizens, or having a degree of higher education. LEGAL IMMIGRATION IS NOT EASY. +Alibi Mike To understand how truly un-American U.S. President Donald Trump’s immigration ban is, how out of step with the country’s best values, consider the story of his hometown.
      For the first two centuries after its founding, writes George Washington University professor Tyler Anbinder in his 2016 book City of Dreams: The 400-Year Epic History of Immigrant New York, newcomers didn’t go through any checks at all. They needed no passport, no visa. Even after doctors began boarding ships to examine them for disease around the time of the American Revolution, the immigrants “simply walked off their ships and onto the streets of New York to begin their new lives in America.”
      When New York finally set up its first immigrant depot, Castle Garden at the southern tip of Manhattan, it was not to protect Americans from potentially dangerous newcomers but to protect the newcomers from potentially dangerous Americans. Touts and thugs had been preying on the confused arrivals as they disembarked at the docks. Castle Garden funnelled them to one place, where police could keep watch.
      Eventually, authorities replaced Castle Garden with the famous clearing house on Ellis Island, now a popular museum. It saw its first arrival in 1892, when 17-year-old Annie Moore arrived from Queenstown, Ireland. By then, the United States had introduced the first real curbs on open immigration, barring paupers, polygamists, Chinese labourers, the mentally ill and those with “loathsome” illnesses.
      Still, most of the millions who arrived at Ellis Island passed through successfully in just a few hours. The museum says only about 2 per cent were denied entry to the United States, often because they were carrying a contagious disease. First- and second-class ship passengers didn’t have to go to Ellis Island at all.So the idea that the country should treat immigrants as inherently suspicious, much less subject them to Trump-style “extreme vetting,” is pretty new in historical terms. It is a distinctly modern notion that every nation is a watertight compartment that must be sealed against threatening new arrivals to prevent it from foundering.
      It was only after the First World War that U.S. authorities began to suppress mass immigration in earnest. As Dr. Anbinder points out in his timely book, the war churned up suspicion of foreigners. In the postwar Red Scare, fuelled by the Russian Revolution, police rounded up foreign-born communists and other suspected radicals. Legislation in 1921 and 1924 cut back sharply on the number of immigrants permitted to enter from eastern and southern Europe. Building on earlier limits on Chinese, Japanese and other Asians, the new laws signalled that the United States was turning away “from its historic role as an asylum for the world’s huddled masses.”
      The latest immigrants, it was said, were simply too foreign to make good Americans. Many Americans came to see them as a shadowy fifth column - clannish, disloyal and a danger to American security. Weren’t many of those anarchists Jews or Italians? Must not most Jews and Italians therefore be anarchists or anarchist sympathizers?
      “Immigration of this character is invasion, and invasion means conquest,” the Chicago Tribune said. “For America, shut the gates.”
      The echoes in today’s headlines are unmistakable. When Mr. Trump decreed Washington would slap a temporary ban on refugees and block the entry of people from seven mainly Muslim countries, his executive order said that “The United States must ensure that those admitted to this country do not bear hostile attitudes toward it and its founding principles.”
      All of this has happened before. In colonial New York, it was the Catholics who were supposed to be a threat to American security, because they would ally with Britain’s Catholic foes. Later it was the Irish, still later the Germans. In its moving new Super Bowl ad, Budweiser reminds Americans of the danger and hostility newcomers like the brewery’s co-founder Adolphus Busch had to overcome.
      “Yet prior to the 2016 election campaign,” Dr. Anbinder says, “no prominent member of any American political party … ever proposed banning an entire ethnic or religious group from immigrating to the United States because of the sins of a few of the group’s members.”
      In his own twisted way, Mr. Trump is making history.

      I'm sorry, but I disagree. The United States was founded on diversity---to be a melting pot. It hasn't always been easy---we've often marginalized the latest new group---from the Irish to the Italians, now to Mexicans and Muslims, but we do a better job of assimilating our immigrants into the fabric of our country than any other in the world. Diversity only breeds discord when we don't open our arms to welcome others and learn from their experiences. I'm a white male with friends of all colors and creeds---their experiences and views enrich my life and do make us stronger as a country. The other countries you mention were not founded on being a country of immigrants and a melting pot. The United States was and this diversity and these principles are what have made us the most powerful country in the world. Far from being forced on us, it was our choice as a nation and it's why people want to move here, rather than the countries you listed.

If they want to convey a positive story of immigration they should have showed them getting their citizenship and being proud that they came to this country the right way. +Robert Muir Please keep your gun pointing toward the ground.
      To understand how truly un-American U.S.
First- and second-class ship passengers didn’t have to go to Ellis Island at all.
      So the idea that the country should treat immigrants as inherently suspicious, much less subject them to Trump-style “extreme vetting,” is pretty new in historical terms.

      Crimson Rain entering legally is not easy. Not everyone is approved for visas or passports, not everyone makes as much as you do.. there are people who make less than $25 a day. Applications are not easy. If you were unfortunate enough to have been born in poverty, you would know how much you would do for a future for your family. Stop being selfish, the 'illegal' immigrants are the ones doing the jobs you don't want to do. You want 15 hour for fast foods, for they are happy with minimum wage because with minimum wage, they can live a simple life. They don't have to work their asses off because they were not privileged enough to have been born in a middle class society. They were not privileged enough to get a decent free education. Put on their shoes and think about what you would do. They pay taxes, trust me they do, and they don't ask for refunds, therefore they don't get the money back. Your president avoid taxes, what would Uncle Sam say about that?

This ad had some meaning to me. My Grandparents on my Mother's side of the family are immigrants from Mexico. Thank God there wasn't a wall then....or my Mom never would have met my Dad. Who, by the way has immigrant grandparents from Sweden. Unless you are an American Indian born on these lands then you all have Grandparents or even Parents who are immigrants.

    For all my conservative Christian friends; I invite you to read the Bible:
    Leviticus 19:33-34
    33 “‘When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. 34 The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God.
    -God.

      The Americans have done that, if they haven't, the immigrants would not mentioned about America's greatness about good treatment of foreigners. They foreigners comes in uninvited. You have to be legally invited in, because that will be called home invasion. That is against God's law.
      "You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.” (Exodus 20:17)

    • @oatlatte
      @oatlatte 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mary Cross God's law is explicit. And his law is above any law made by humans.
      Same could've been said about Europeans conquering the Americas, after all, they were uninvited. But I don't want to get into that argument since it's so overused.

    • @oatlatte
      @oatlatte 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mary Cross Plus, the country doesn't belong to only people that think your way. It also belongs to people who support illegal immigrants who try to pursue the American Dream. That Bible verse doesn't work here, it's a faulty analogy.
      You really have to consider the different opinions.

    • @oatlatte
      @oatlatte 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It took my family 9 long years for us to do it the right way, to come to the US legally, this spits in the face of legal immigrants who have had to put so much time and effort to achieve so. Stop glorifying criminal behaviour, this commercial is an appeal to emotion precisely because there is no logical argument you can make for people who already disrepect the law to get into this country.
    I am latino and I voted Trump because everyone is welcome as long as they do it the right way, we need to secure our borders and we need to stop the welfare magnet that attracts so many people. Most complaining about "everyone in the US being an immigrant" forget that the US did not sponsor anyone back in the day, the work of LEGAL immigrants built this country, not draining the pockets of taxpayers through undeserving benefits and government sponsoring.
    If someone wants to come to America they MUST respect rule of law, if not they are already traitors.

      Thank you for sharing this and Congratulations on your citizenship! Maybe the discussion should be more about immigration reform, because 9 years is a crazy long process and I imagine when you are this desperate, you don't have 9 years to wait on paperwork, but it still does not justify smuggling into a country illegally! When the U.S. Border Patrol endorsed Trump, I realized that he knew what he was doing. I don't live by the border, so I struggled with the issue myself, but if those closest to the situation think it's a good idea to build a wall, that's who we should listen to, not this liberal agenda that pushes this agenda that everyone should get their way, but with no thought or idea of how to pay for things.

      +so★ The problem is that many areas in Mexico are beyond saving. Thousands of dangerous gangs kill innocent people and kidnap children to either raise them to be part of the gang or, sometimes, to use them as meat-shields.
      The legal process of immigration into the United States takes an extremely long time, up to 10 years in many cases, and so that's not an option for people. And no, the innocent in Mexico looking for safety can't just go to a safer town in Mexico. They'd be found regardless. Their only real option is to enter the U.S illegally, so you'd think the solution to this problem would be simple; alter/fix the legal immigration process into the U.S. But no, according to our president, the solution is to build a wall that will easily destroy Mexico's economy thus making it even worse for anyone living there. And even then, the wall wouldn't reduce the illegal immigration numbers by THAT much.
      Fixing our legal immigration process would mean less illegal immigration and wouldn't just be limited to illegal immigrants from Mexico. Trump's solution is not a well thought-out solution, if you can even call it that.
      It's like something a drunk hillbilly would come up with if I'm being honest.

No multi billion dollar cartel is being stopped by a wall, they just continue building massive tunnel systems, using catapults (4 real google this shit its straight out of loony toons) or sneaking through check points, as theyve been doing FOR DECADES.

      Mexicans and Arabs are known for their fanatical nationalism, Muslims are really extreme with their religion.
      I would like them to assimilate if they want to live among us.

There would be an office ready to provide them with some basic English lessons, a quick, efficient health screening, and a process by which they can take a legitimate oath of citizenship. Much of this would be volunteer run. Businesses in need of entry level workers could have recruiters stationed all over the place and this woman and her child could start their lives as members of the wonderful USA. Yes it may be a total fantasy, but it's what we should all strive for. An efficient and welcoming legal process.
