    Just picked one of these up after playing it at Sweetwater. I’d had my eye on it for years and thought it would be good but there is something truly amazing about this synth. I couldn’t stop playing it. Surrounded by every other synth out there, I still couldn’t walk away to spend time with the others. Can’t wait to really get to know it as well as my Hydrasynth and Wavestate.

      @@CabalisOrder Idk about him but I'm really thinking about selling mine to fund the Prophet 6 I originally wanted. Rev 2 is a great synth but I should've followed my gut. I wanted a VCO synth with that classic vintage sound. Rev 2 gets kinda close but it's just not the same.

      @@_EightySix It took me about a year but I can say I finally found my style on it. It took a while. And I was going to trade it in multiple times for an ob6 but I finally am absolutely in love with this REV2.

      @@Massproduce201 it grows on you. You need to dive deep on it to make it your own. After you pass that phase, you fall in love with it. It took me about a year. For me this still sounds fatter than most vst plugins, and I own most of them: diva, repro-5, etc.

    I don't look at any of DSI's gear as better or worse than the other. Each is it's own voice in a pallet of sounds. I look at the Prophet REV-2 as the perfect companion to my Prophet 6. They compliment each other as each has something that the other doesn't. Can't wait to get mine. I'll likely grab an 8 voice.

  • @vampolascott36
    @vampolascott36 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Thanks! I love my Rev2! It's great for long evolving pads, and just about everything analog. I didn't realize how much you could do with it until I got my hands on it. My first polysynth was the Prophet 600 from the 1980's. The Prophet Rev2 is a huge leap from the Prophet 600, but it's voice is as loud and pure as the older synth. I feel I got my money's worth for sure.

      Good point. I like both and use both and what i found out is you tend to use
      a lot of effects on a VST to get it to sound more colorful and give it a bit more
      character to make it sound less digital. sometimes people even modulate the
      detune by a couple of cents with an envelope or an LFO to get those slight
      imperfections as well. so at the end of the day your actually trying to emulate
      what a analogue synth sounds like and does. on an analog synth, you have
      that sound straight of the bat as far as color is concerned and for some
      reason VST effects like chorus delays and especially reverbs sound ridiculously
      good on an analog synth. they tend to complement each other. where sometimes
      on a VST they can actually make the sound more digital sounding and less organic.
      It depends what music you make though to be honest. both have their strengths.
      You can definitely tell though if you use only VSTs or you only use Analogue
      to make your tracks. its the music which doesn't make it matter so much.

      indeed .ob6 is the strongest DSI imoa

    • @quarkyzarky
      @quarkyzarky 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I know guys, I was trying to sell my Rev 2 at the time. ;) Prophet 6 (and OB-6) is way better. That said, they are still not as good as vintage synths. No DSI is. And I stand by the Korg statement, it sounds like shit. OB-6 is great, but I honestly prefer the Prophet 6's overall tone and abilities. OB-6 has a similar problem to the prologue, too fizzy, too open all the time, it gets a bit grating. The OB actually reminds me of the Rev2 a bit in that it can't close down the sound properly (rev2 in 2 pole mode), and in 4 pole mode the Rev2 is just piss weak, but Prophet 6 has real power (just has a slightly clinical nature in some respects but only vs good vintage synths). Overall though, P6 being my favourite, I'm done with DSI. I hope Roland make a new VCO analog, Roland are the most musical synth makers on earth but they've lost the plot lately with System 8 and plastic fake emulations. JD-XA wasn't bad but not quite enough.

    • @_Thorsten
      @_Thorsten 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The OB6 is great but totally different sounding. Its pure analog but only has 6 Voices instead of 16 and a filter without self oscilation.

      @urh8523 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, indeed. The analog synthesizers are back. The digital are not so great but they became very popular and trendy in the 1990´ies. Nobody wanted analog synthesizers anylonger that time. A music shop sold me in 1986 a Prophet 5 rev 2 very cheap(1300 euro) comparing to nowadays prophet 5 prices. I have also a lovely Roland JP4. Today Almost everybody wants old analog synthesizers from the 70 and 80´ies. They have a incredible terrific warm sound comparing to many of the modern synthesizers today.

    I returned my REV2 and got a Behringer DeepMind12. For some reason, upon initial powering up, there is an unsightly screen that appears before showing the REV2 logo. Also, the portamento doesn't really kick in until you reach the 1 o'clock position (unlike the DeepMind12, where the portamento is evident at the 8 o'clock position). The knobs on the REV2 seems kind of cheap and wobbly, whereas the DeepMind12 had solid knobs and sliders. The REV2 is not the Prophet V of yesteryear. The DeepMind12 is VERY reminiscent of the Roland Juno series, even the sound. Behringer has come a long way and now produces very high-quality professional gear and synthesizers. Ever their very affordable microphones, e.g., C1, have been compared to the Neumann U87! When used in conjunction with their Ultragain Pro preamp, their microphones sound phenomenal! Yes, Behringer is in the "big leagues" now, although you won't be paying unnecessarily high prices for a Neumann, Telefunken, et al.

    This is a great demo of the Rev 2. Unfortunately I don't like the sound character of it, It has a dry in-your-face brightness, and a weak low end. It has a few sweetspots though.

      Is the same instruments except for 8 voice extra. And you can buy a rev2 8 and add the extra 8 voice later.. (not really cheap) but no hardware difference from rev2-8 and rev2-16
