Except for the fact that you have ZERO chance of getting the nastiest part of the oil out. All the heavy crap is in the bottom. Draining will get rid of that sludge but extracting will not.
Great video guys! There are probably so many people who just roll their pressure was here out to the shed the last time they use it and not think about it until spring and not consider that there is water in there which can freeze. This is good advice! I've had several friends that think they got a defective wand because when they went to use it in the spring it was split and leaking. Of course they didn't take the time to be sure they drained it and prepped it for the winter.
When draining compressor oil,I use a incremental measuring cup to show how much is drained. Then refill same amount. Cannot lose. I also use Amsoil compressor oil along with Amsoil Max Duty diesel oil! Ultimate protection!
whats the reasoning on changing the oil at the end of the season as opposed to in the beginning of the next season? Wouldn't it be better to start the season withi fresh oil? Mine is not stored outside in the weather just a barn. Also, any more videos or advice you can point to about using the oil with zinc in it? Thanks High quality videos, editing and info and you get to the point. well done
You always want to change out oil when putting items away. As oil is used it can collect water and create acid. You do not want the water to sit in the engine and cause rust. Acid can eat away at bearings. Clean oil will sit in the engine just as well as it will sit in the bottle.
I bought some VP small engine fuel....first start you could hear the difference in engine performance.......I would not have believed a fuel could have made that much difference in performance.....but it is expensive.
I can't find much maintenance info on the Subaru Engined Ridgid 3000 pressure washers. It's a typical Home Depot pump and dump. These aren't a cheap disposable Ryobi seedeater. Can you point me in the right direction. I never heard about pump oil or saver fluid. Thanks for the education. I'm a subscriber now!!
I got rid of my Ridgid/Subaru 3000psi pressure washer last year. The engines are great on those units but the pumps are proprietary garbage. Mine needed seals and then a rebuild kit but they don’t make rebuild kits for them. You have to buy an entirely new pump and they wanted $700 - $900 Canadian for a new pump. I only paid $1,100.00 for the entire pressure washer new! Buy a pressure washer from a reputable company like BE who use good Honda engines and good well-known, widely available, rebuildable pumps (that are NOT proprietary). The build quality is night and day different and BE is a Canadian company!
We do and it is old. th-cam.com/video/-v2OZFeXKdQ/w-d-xo.html My gut tells me that the Ridgid Pressure washers will be no more very soon and all outdoor equipment will be branded Ryobi. I believe Ryobi will come out with the same, or close to the same horizontal shaft pressure washers soon.
@@WorkshopAddict after going thru 2 Troybilt pressure washers and learning their pumps are non-repairable, I bought a NorthStar at Northern Tool.....great pressure washer....however I am sure there are other great brands.....just make sure the pump is serviceable.
Great Video. I was checking out about pump saver. I have a troybilt power washer, b&S pump. I keep it in my garage which is always at 57 degrees, I heat it since I live in Ohio. I got my pressure washer out late last year, the pump would not build pressure. After a few different things, I replaced the pump last weekend. Now it works great again. So I am pretty sure I need to use pump saver especially over the winter. I bought some B&S pump saver and will read their directions and use what I learned in your video. My question is (sorry for all this rambling!), do I need to change the pump oil even though it is in a heated garage all winter. It may only get 10 hours max use a year. Thoughts/ advice? Thank you.
Hi i have a rigid pressure washer and works perfectly but the cat pump oil turns gray i use the original cat pump oil change it and turns gray again but the machine works perfectly so whats happen with that oil then? Thank you
When using an oil extractor you miss the opportunity to check for filings or fod on the sump plug, not sure whether they are magnetic on a pressure washer but in my industry most equipment does mave magnetic drain plugs. interested to know your thoughts.
I agree and disagree. With an oil extractor you can still remove the plug and check for shavings without having a huge mess. It's a 50/50 if you have magnetic plugs in pressure washers.
Wouldnt the wd40 ruin the o-rings over time or any other rubber components if any inside sprayer? Can i just buy a zinc addidtive instead of switching oils or looking for that one? MICHIGAN REPRESENT!!! *throws up the mitten* lol
i have a simpson pressure washer, i tried to use pump saver and could not get any into my pump. I removed the spark plug and tried pulling the rope a few 10 times . still nothing...and yes i removed the seal from the bottle. made me feel like a fool. What am i doing wrong guys???
@@WorkshopAddict In a paint sprayer you have to put in a solvent like paint thinner in the pump to store it even for a week or two or the seals go bad and won't prime, do you need to do anything like that for a pressure washers ?

@@WorkshopAddict yeah change oil with their brand of oil its just a sales gimmick high end manufacturers will only tell you to add if low but never change
Well, I get that, but I believe that oil is best changed. additive packages deteriorate over time and water gets in the oil. Get the old stuff out and change it for the 7 bucks it costs.
According to the website WD40 is safe on rubber. The only materials which are mentioned as being affected are polycarbonate and clear polystyrene. However since it is a petoleum based product I would agree to avoid contact with natural rubber. Engine oil seals and o-rings are made of more exotic materials, such as Viton, in order to reset this effect.
Agreed I own a pressure washing business in Florida and wd-40 is terrible on o rings that are in pw hoses Great for after use to prevent rust from using chlorine (litterly spray on the whole Machine )but keep away from hoses and orings And never put it in your gun you'll make your gun leak Use pump armor in your gun
Thanks for putting this video out! Probably saved my ass on an expensive pump!!

How do you use pump saver in an electric pressure washer?
Same way, connect it and spray some in. Sometimes it will turn on the pump, so.etimes it won't. Just pushing it through moves the water out.
I'm a big Sta-Bil user. Is it just me or did you put a LOT of Sta-Bil in that tank? I mean, 1 oz. treats 5 gallons.
We put in 3/4 of an ounce. Yes, we over treated for winter storage.
so it need grease like HTP sprayer?
No Grease.

I disagree with never changing pump oil and so do the manufacturers. Vertical pumps are normally lubed for life, but not horizontal.
