I lived in Dublin during most of the 70’s. I got to see everyone, the Chieftains, Planxty, the Bothy Band, De Danaan. It was a great time despite the troubles.
I agree. I was very fortunate to see him perform at the Wadsworth Theater-not far from UCLA. He was so darned good and had the audience singing some of the songs. A memory to treasure forever. An Irish treasure.
God bless ya, #Christy, Sir. Love.. *lots* of love from Glasgow. We just want you to know how much you're appreciated. #Legend #IrishHero, We need your spirit in Scotland, just to help us escape the iron grip of Westminster to become a free and Independent nation... Just like #Eire. 🏴
Followed Christy’s gigs around London in the 80s; a really special time, listening to his wonderful interpretations of many special songs, for which I am grateful; as well as for his being an inspiration for me since then.
Great stuff, thanks for uploading; I've had the good fortune to see Christy play live twice or three times and to get his autograph. Despite his superstar status he's still a real, down-to-earth gentleman. Also, RIP Gay Byrne, you were an icon.
One of my own people who is the real thing and that's from me and a church full of addict's who is used to being cast aside from the people think that they have a perfect life, Till Christy' Moore who is the best way for teaching the uneducated. People forget that addiction comes in more than drugs and alcohol is the real world problem especially in Ireland So I have to be honest with you and it was a pleasure meeting with him on a human level Thanks Christy'Moore, for you just being you
Of all the stars that ever shone Not one does twinkle like your pale blue eyes Like golden corn at harvest time your hair Sailing in my boat the wind Gently blows and fills my sail Your sweet-scented breath is everywhere Daylight peeping through the curtain Of the passing night time is your smile And the sun in the sky is like your laugh Come back to me my Nancy Linger for just a little while Since you left these shores I've known no peace Nor joy No matter where I wander I'm still haunted By your name The portrait of your beauty stays the same Standing by the ocean wondering where you've Gone, if you'll return again Where is the ring I gave to Nancy Spain On the day in Spring when snow starts to melt And streams to flow With the birds I'll sing this song Then in the while I'll wander Down by bluebell stream where wild flowers grow And I'll hope that lovely Nancy will return No matter where I wander I'm still haunted By your name The portrait of your beauty stays the same Standing by the ocean wondering where you've Gone, if you'll return again Where is the ring I gave to Nancy Spain
Even though it was not written by Christy Moore this is the best version I’ve heard, just like the way Phil Coulter wrote “Scorn Not His Simplicity” & “The Town I Loved So Well” and the best versions I’ve ever heard are played by Luke Kelly who knew my Grandad Gerry who lived in Dublin
Christy inspired my singing and guitar playing when given his live album on my 18th birthday in 1979. I recall singing this song in the London Underground about 50 times in one day in the very early 80's. Sadly I prostituted myself to the corporate world eventually but the rebel still lies within.
Yes! The harmony on Nancy Spain was sung by Mandy Murphy. She also sang harmony on Lakes of Ponchatrain. Both songs are from the album The Time Has Come (1983). Christy confirmed this on his webpage several years ago and called her "a wonderful singer from Cork."
I'm sad to find that Mandy Murphy passed a few years ago. Her heavenly voice has now joined the choir of angels. Rest in peace. billmurphysite.wordpress.com/2016/04/21/the-passing-of-a-heavanly-voice-and-supreme-being-mandy-murphy/
@@shellastic I had hope it was Mandy, Lord Rest her. Her voice is magical and she comes for a very talented family both actors and singers. Cork City is where she hails from so its no surprise because its a magical City itself.
@@MargiesSims Iv just read the link youve put on here and i dont really believe thats the same person the song is about ??? On one of Christies CDs he says "this a song about a someone from Scapa Flow" or something to those words and certainly not about a Lesbian from Newcastle ??
Here's a wonderful article that explains how the song was written and how Christy heard it. Essentially the writer, Barney Rushe, simply liked the sound of her name. www.independent.ie/life/nancy-spain-the-popular-song-and-an-english-lesbian-30638813.html
Oproti interpretaci této písně od Noel Mcloughlin je to slabé. Listen to Noel Mcloughlin rendition of this and other traditional Irish songs. They are much more sincere.

Can anyone tell me who was the girl on the backing of the studio album recording of Nancy Spain?

He has a grand hue around him
love the song, gaybo casts a shadow over it though. the west brit.
The spelling and grammar in this comment section is absolutely repugnant.
Sadly he’d be canceled today for lack of representation of diversity. All that talk of blue eyes and blonde hair would get ye canceled today.
Don't be silly now, try not to get angry about something in your imagination
