After spending HOURS with this paper jam error I finally came across your video. I cleaned the encoder strip and everything works. My wife was just about to buy a new printer. THANK YOU!!!

Terry, thank you very much. The strip was the problem. I wasted 90 minutes on hold and with Brother technician. All she did was the same thing the printer ten steps did. You should own Brother tech.

I have a MFC-J6520DW & got error message "Paper Jam (front)". Had no paper in it. Pulling my hair out trying to find so called paper. Googled problem & your youtube solution came up. And thank you so much, it WORKED.

Thank you very much. Mine said "Paper Jam (Front)". I pushed the cover interlock switch like you and that cleared it. I did not try to clean the ribbon. I would never figured this out without your video. I was about to throw away a perfectly good printer. It make think about how Internet helped DIYers and helped keep reduce waste.
That's what. It's all about. Stopping waste due to stupid avoidable problems.

Un buen consejo, y buena explicación, a veces tras mucho uso, la cinta "transparente" del codificador, se termina manchando y oscureciendo por la tinta, ya que al imprimir se produce en el interior un ambiente micro-nebuloso de tinta, como si fuese un aerosol, hay que tener cuidado al limpiar esta cinta, pues lleva impresas una diminutas rayitas, bastara con utilizar un poco de agua
This helped me solve the problem. I used a wet wipe to clean the encoder ribbon but that did not fix it. So I doused the head sensor in water based cleaning spray. I dried it off with an air duster. It took a bit more fiddling whilst the printer sorted itself out and now it prints!
Great fix spent hours trying to fix it well worth the watch many thanks
NOTE: The two parts of the transparent film must be parallel.(error 76)
If this is not the case, place the head in the middle and look at the underside, you will see a small metal divider (looking for left to right for me). Carefully place the transparent film in front of this. That's it!

I have a Brother Mfc-j4710dw..... I have the same problem but it is very hard to get to that strip. Can the top cover be removed? I see screws on top cover blocking the strip access, but I don't know if it is for the front digital panel or the inside to get to the strips.

Also there is no ink printing on paper at all before the paper jam front-rear error came up. I left it overnight because the cartridges had not been used in a long time they were empty.
I brought some new ones they would not print. So I left the printer on and next morning when I looked at it that was when I saw the jam error. Please help.

Then quite clearly you have a completely different problem with your printer
