Started welding at a business here in my hometown in Missouri at 12 years old. 18 years old right now and still employed for the same man. Headed to welding school this fall then it's off to pipeline work.
welding is already hard to get a perfect weld. Then you factor in you lying on a bed of rocks upside down. Spray falling in your face. In the cold. And still it needs to be just as perfect at the one done on the welding table......YOUR THE MAN
Watching that guy slip and fall was hilarious. I know it can be dangerous when the terrain is like that, so be careful! BUT, that was a good easter egg. Thanks for leaving that in the final edit!
Hey Austin what spread. I'm in Bridgeport WV,, for MVP 42" 888-740 wall. There was 8 welder tests, took a week.for precision spread A. I am a welder as well.
Props to you and andy,I hated those,I was hard core then,I was a real aggressive welder,it was wwe until I was tested and leaning on my rig, then I was butter.I had to look at it as every rod was my job.I would buy the group a beer.I only had one that steep, great video.I did one through a bad part of town,we had wine bottles flying in the ditch, security guards on the job.
Awesome video thanks for taking me along. I have seen those crews in WV when I go riding ATVs at the Hatfield McCoy trail system down there. I thought it was WV crews doing the welding I didn’t know you travelled that far away.
We didn't have the trained labor force here in WV to do our own work when the pipeline was booming, so people came in from all over the country. Now that things have slowed down bigtime, we should have a lot more WV people out there, but unfortunately these companies hire their friends and family first and locals only get scraps.
Where are you guys working at? I was just down in rainelle wv. And I saw they cleared a whole line of mountain out for that big pipe line going from new York to Florida.
Maybe a stupid question, but I’m curious: Once the pipe is welded does the whole unit flex while it is laid back into the trench or is is still very rigid? I see you guys with pipes up in the air in slings and was always curious. I appreciate a clarification. Awesome videos!!!
Im curious about pipeline work, do they pay you by the hour? Is it a single bid they pay you for the overall job? Do you get paid for the in between waiting times? Does it depend on the job? and if so what are some different ways they pay? Thanks guys :)
Good video! Have you ever switched arm's when your on the wrong side of the pipe on a steep hill? I know with pancake you will probably get all the hair burned out of your ear.
@@arosswelding I had shoulder surgery several years ago on my money making arm. I couldn't make a living so I had to learn how to use the left arm. Gotta do what you gotta do!
So this is totally irrelevant to this video but the question I have just popped into my head as I watched this particular one ..( I've watched about every one of your videos I think lol) so question I have is would you consider a making a video on your personal opinion on women pipeline welders. How many if any have you come across if any and how are they treated as far as on the line.. I'm very curious your over all thoughts on it. Would u encourage women to go for it and if so any specific tips for women going into the pipeline as a beginner ,no experience wanting to run her own rig one day ? Thank you SO SO MUCH your info and opinion is valued greatly. Keep up the videos
I will take note a video around this topic. But right off hand, I would def say go for it if your interested. I’ve known about a handful of women rig welders. Several women helpers.
Most guys hate working around women on the pipeline because you have to worry about everything you say. If one of em overhears a dirty joke they don't like, they can get you fired instantly. It makes the whole job miserable, especially considering some women are constantly going out of their way to find drama.
Quick question, what's it like having someone else grind your welds? I'm not a fan of having any one grind out my welds, unless I've had a fitter with me for awhile. Do you tell your helper how you like your root or hot passes ground out before you start with them, or do you see what they do before you say anything. I'm not a pipeliner local 9 nj here just curious.
Hi Austin I never see you chip the slag off your welds. Does it just fall off as your welding????????? I have seen it where the slag does just practically fall off or peel off the welds. Is that the case here? I was just curious. I really like your videos !! Especially since we live in the gas well and pipeline area of Ohio.
No my helper buffs my weld every time I make a pass. Down hill slag will not peel off like 7018. But it still comes off pretty easy if it’s welded correctly.
Pipe is never rig welded in these situations it takes too long all pipelines are 6010 root and often 8010 or 6010 cap unless it’s above ground then it’s usually 7018
Alright all you seven ninety greaters let em all know who really makes this thing work with your dolled up bell holes and not a damn smudge of mud on ya so you can get back in your 100,000 dollar rig and watch some Netflix until the next one! 😂 I’m a straw for tieins and I like my welders happy and dry my man. 😆 great video my brothers keep it up.
If familiar with the hills in WV, might be a dumb question, but does the grade of pipe fo anything to weld pool? Or is it like always welding in a 6g haha
Great job guys! Too bad our so called president shut down everything. Nice looking LEC logo on those machines. I designed that many years ago for John Leslie.
That bell-holes are dangerous ,where's the shoaring to protect workers and welders , This just wouldn't happen here in the UK .days gone by maybe but not these days ...

Good eye my friend. I went back to check it out, but in my defense I'm looking at my phone screen.

Love your videos Austin. Stay cool brotha God bless you. Putting in work.
Very impressive work young man! I would rather listen to the machines and the men doing the work than the music but that's just me and grumpy ways!
Rocks hills and hundred dollar bills. Keep them rods burnin ol boy. Stay safe 🤘🏽
Nature's 6G. We see that a lot in Wild Wonderful. 12:10, we can all learn by just sitting back and watching a little when we can.
Best video yet , I enjoy watching the actual process!! Seems like a enjoyable job!!
Thanks brother. Thanks for sharing✌🏻👊🏻😎🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Gotta be Atlantic sunrise? Shoulda seen where they layed pipe on the property near mine. 40% slope, thru shale, under the river. Really impressive.
Anyone else see the guy at 14:18 bust his ass LMAO.
Glad I seen your comment 😂😂
First thing I did after seeing 14:18 was look at the comments lol

Thanks Austin, enjoyed the video.
Thanks for sharing. Takes time and work to make these videos are
On your waiting days (waiting on them to prep the hillside), do yall get paid?

Man I miss that I operated hoes and winch tractors for 10.years alot of different companies in wv ,Ohio PA and Virginia loved pipelinin

I live near Rainelle and worked on the MVP for 3 years. Everything has been shutdown waiting in the courts to get these permit issues settled.
Man oh man good stuff Austin... best to ya from Odessa tx.
do you guys have to bevel the pipe or is that already done for ya?
It's beveled when cut

Depends on the wall thickness, .250 wall and under looks like cooked spaghetti when it’s picked up in a big string.
Are there going to be anymore get togethers??

Did you do any welds on tucker ridge road in buffalo wv?
Milwaukee has m12 heated gloves

How do you decide who finishes up at the bottom?
Do you brush or use grinder after every weld or you only grind the rack. And anything that has slag?
God it makes me want to get back out there so bad
I work in mining/construction in Australia.

I wish I can find a welder helper job for a rig welder I am hard worker
at least you didnt have to dangle on the end of a rope while welding
Austin just curious, What exactly do those pipe supply?
CPerez_20 natural gas, brine water. Any liquid or gas that you desire
What he said... most of the ones I’ve been on are for natural gas or crude oil.

I’m not sure I understand your question.
@@arosswelding sorry, just referring to the steep angle of the pipe. Wondering if you have to account for it or not while putting a bead in.
Yes you have to make different motions and such ya. Def account for the angle.
What company do you work for?
Being a operator on them hills looks stressful
Why was y'all welding down hill on the pip?
That’s what most main lines are welded with. It’s a little “faster” and it holds up to the wind better than uphill rod.
Is this the Mountain Valley line coming through Virginia?
No

No

Why do you guys weld downhill
When is the day with Andy coming
Couple more day in the life’s
Anyone else see the falling guy at 14:20
the position and way of holding the grinder is very dangerous, sir, especially if the grinding machine has no protection
Are you 798
Yes
What about you?
Why don't you wear a regular welding helmet?
I have never seen such a helmet.
It’s a pancake hood. Blocks glare and light from coming in behind you. Can’t weld if you can’t see.
@@richardj163 Thanks for explaining!
so out of a 10 hr day you think you actually work 5? or less
