    Thermocamera is expensive. However very useful not only for CPU fault finding. If electronic repairman, electrician or HVAC technician can afford at least $350 worth thermocamera with 160p+ resolution, he must get it. I agree - alcohol under zooming lens or microscope is nice simple method. We used thermal paper from fax machines or cash terminal receipt rolls - overheated faulty components left nice dark rectangles :)

    This video is seven months old, but I watch it now, but I have problem with cpu i5 6600k mounted on Asus Z 170k, both bought used on eBay. I can't install win 10 pro from usb stick, neither from SSD with previously installed Windows 10 pro, that work fine on old motherboard. Only get blue screen errors. I solved this problem with turn off all cores, set on only 1-3 cores and works fine. I tried everything setting changes in Bios hopefully to work with all cores but none. After so many tries my pc won't boot no beep, no post, only black screen, all fans and led on motherboard work. Probably my cpu is completely dead I don't know for sure. Now I ordered another used cpu i5 6500 from eBay, I hope it will work. I think the motherboard is ok..

      You can also use rubbing alcohol (contains 30% water). The nice thing about that compared to pure alcohol is that it has 2 different boiling points which help create a better effect than alcohol alone.

    • @gcbification
      @gcbification ปีที่แล้ว

      @@waynesallee-com Explain to me how/why having a miscible solution of IPA (boiling point of 82C) & water (boiling point of 100C), is practical? Zippo fluid (boiling point of 35C) shows up faulty/overheating components quicker, as you need to inject voltage for a shorter period of time to detect/observe the fault.

    Fantastic video and i see you bypass the mosfet and send power direct into the CPU but if the computer isnt on doing work and calculations, why is the CPU taking current and heating up? What is happening here?

    • @shiftctrlhack
      @shiftctrlhack ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some of the transistors in the CPU are short so they are going to take current. When there’s a sure there is heat.

    • @xx3868
      @xx3868 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@shiftctrlhack Yes i understand that when tracing down hot spots. BUT wasnt one of his boards the GOOD CPU but still passed .8 current at .7 volts. So if all transistor inside are good why are they switching on and warming?

    • @waynesallee-com
      @waynesallee-com ปีที่แล้ว

      @@xx3868 The processor will still use power if you give it power. It's like, if you apply power to some location on the motherboard, the components connected to that area will still use some power even though the motherboard does not turn on. The processor will still try to operate on what power you give it. It's just the nature of all of the components inside the processor. The individual components in the processor will carry some electricity.

    • @xx3868
      @xx3868 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@waynesallee-com Yeah i forget theres approx a billion transistors and leakage alone together would give you say .7 of a amp. Bypassing the mosfet and powering juice directly into the CPU, i though there might still be some gates that had to turn on to let power in say by the super IO ect but it looks like the mosfet is the last gate and then it all pours in at less than a volt?
      So learn something today and that amps test will quickly tell you if you got many amps going in that somethings wrong unless that flood in is because of a shorted cap on the way out of the CPU. Is that possible too? and you still have a good CPU?
      I have a whole bunch of boards with hot CPU's so i was going to junk them for parts, maybe not necessarily the CPU?

    • @waynesallee-com
      @waynesallee-com ปีที่แล้ว

      @@xx3868 I have not kept up with exact voltages of CPUs. The voltage does vary with manufacture, and products. Power going "on the way out" would be ground. Technically, electrons travel from negative to positive, but that's another whole can of worms. But there are capacitors on the back of the motherboard, that apparently connect to individual pins of the CPU.

    • @oynamalan

      HQ series cpus gets cold solder joints / micro solder cracks or gray pads under solder balls very often. If your machine stucks at around 0.70-0.90 Amps just reball the cpu. Can't say the same thing for blown up voltage phase tho. That could easily kill the cpu.
