Thermocamera is expensive. However very useful not only for CPU fault finding. If electronic repairman, electrician or HVAC technician can afford at least $350 worth thermocamera with 160p+ resolution, he must get it. I agree - alcohol under zooming lens or microscope is nice simple method. We used thermal paper from fax machines or cash terminal receipt rolls - overheated faulty components left nice dark rectangles :)
01:07 the two phase on the left of the cpu is VCCGT they're for the intel graphics. Three on the right is Vcore, they're for cpu core. It has nothing to do with The Turbo Boost.

Thank you Sorin, i have a pga socket cpu, the problem is when i check the core coil and other components near they all beep with ground, but if i take out the cpu from the socket then there is no beep with the ground, can you please suggest what can be the problem there.
You can also use rubbing alcohol (contains 30% water). The nice thing about that compared to pure alcohol is that it has 2 different boiling points which help create a better effect than alcohol alone.
@@waynesallee-com Explain to me how/why having a miscible solution of IPA (boiling point of 82C) & water (boiling point of 100C), is practical? Zippo fluid (boiling point of 35C) shows up faulty/overheating components quicker, as you need to inject voltage for a shorter period of time to detect/observe the fault.

Fantastic video and i see you bypass the mosfet and send power direct into the CPU but if the computer isnt on doing work and calculations, why is the CPU taking current and heating up? What is happening here?
@@shiftctrlhack Yes i understand that when tracing down hot spots. BUT wasnt one of his boards the GOOD CPU but still passed .8 current at .7 volts. So if all transistor inside are good why are they switching on and warming?
@@xx3868 The processor will still use power if you give it power. It's like, if you apply power to some location on the motherboard, the components connected to that area will still use some power even though the motherboard does not turn on. The processor will still try to operate on what power you give it. It's just the nature of all of the components inside the processor. The individual components in the processor will carry some electricity.

Bypassing the mosfet and powering juice directly into the CPU, i though there might still be some gates that had to turn on to let power in say by the super IO ect but it looks like the mosfet is the last gate and then it all pours in at less than a volt? So learn something today and that amps test will quickly tell you if you got many amps going in that somethings wrong unless that flood in is because of a shorted cap on the way out of the CPU. Is that possible too? and you still have a good CPU? I have a whole bunch of boards with hot CPU's so i was going to junk them for parts, maybe not necessarily the CPU?
@@xx3868 I have not kept up with exact voltages of CPUs. The voltage does vary with manufacture, and products. Power going "on the way out" would be ground. Technically, electrons travel from negative to positive, but that's another whole can of worms. But there are capacitors on the back of the motherboard, that apparently connect to individual pins of the CPU.

I have a x550cc laptop and it happens the same and no picture no audio no network, i detected that a audio and network chips is getting mad hot and i took them off and still has problems, i think its the io chip that has a parcial short and not working right, so i can't repair it.
Is the CPU always dead when you see a shot spot? Have a laptop with Ryzen 7 5800H cpu, all power rails ok, but no display. CPU getting hot, GPU warm (RTX 3060). Checked with thermal cam and see a hotspot in one corner of die.

I can't install win 10 pro from usb stick, neither from SSD with previously installed Windows 10 pro, that work fine on old motherboard. Only get blue screen errors. I solved this problem with turn off all cores, set on only 1-3 cores and works fine. I tried everything setting changes in Bios hopefully to work with all cores but none. After so many tries my pc won't boot no beep, no post, only black screen, all fans and led on motherboard work. Probably my cpu is completely dead I don't know for sure. Now I ordered another used cpu i5 6500 from eBay, I hope it will work. I think the motherboard is ok..
I have Lenovo Ideapad L340-15IRH. It has i5-9300HF CPU (without integrated GPU) and GTX1050. At the all coils of CPU I have 2 ohms resitantce, as well as the same at the coils of nVidia GPU. Does it looks like a faulty CPU, doesn't it ?
if your multimeter shows exactly 0.00 ohms when you short two probes together 2ohms is normal for that cpu vcore.. Anything below that resistance is bad.. N17X chipsets has too low resistance nvdd phases around 0.5-0.8

HQ series cpus gets cold solder joints / micro solder cracks or gray pads under solder balls very often. If your machine stucks at around 0.70-0.90 Amps just reball the cpu. Can't say the same thing for blown up voltage phase tho. That could easily kill the cpu.
I have an Alienware 17 R2, and it restarts every 30 minutes. I reinstalled Windows and everything else, updated the BIOS, and even used it without a battery, but nothing helped. Temps are normal and changed thermal paste of GPU and CPU. i can play even heavy games in 30mins. It keeps restarting exact after 30 mins. Please help.

The other day I was working inside of Premiere pro(in which my laptop was consuming Dedicated GPU), blue screen of error popped. VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE error. Tried: Clean installation of driver Clean installation of OS from Microsoft site Rolled back to Windows 10 and installed driver. Using DDU performed a clean installation of GPU drivers. Still code 43 persists: Windows has stopped this device as it reported problems (Code 43) Any fixes?

Sorin refers to it as 'petrol' but it's really 'white spirit' --- you get it from places that sell cigarette supplies --- 'Zippo Lighter Fluid'

Some of the transistors in the CPU are short so they are going to take current. When there’s a sure there is heat.

@@brayanxpalacios I think the CPU is really dead. When i connect CH341A to the BIOS chip, the voltage of it drops and CPU getting warm in that corner.

Benim kartımda sarj mosfet yanmıştı . Mosfeti söküp temizledim , deneme maksadıyla . Mosfet d bacağına 3v verdim 2.8 a çekti , bahsettiğiniz bölgede aşırı derecede ısınma oldu , resistanslar ohm okuyamıyorum galiba çöp doğrumu.
reball the cpu it will work. cpu die rarely fails. my number 1 suspect is solder balls underneath the cpu.

It can, but they do not sell new CPUs. Any CPU you get would be harvested from a dead motherboard, therefor parts are unreliable.
