Hi. Thanks for the video! What about the external part of the instrument's body ? Should it be oiled too? Thanks

Hi Richard. What s your opinion about making a mixture of: Bees wax and organic oil, like Nut oil or Rosewood oil or Lemon oil, to restore the exterior original polished factory patina like "as new"? What proportions I should try? Please. I will apreciate your help. I m fan of your videos. Thanks!

Thanks! It's about time I did some more videos but I've been too busy. It's very hard to match the the original finish on the outside of the instrument. I've never tried the beeswax/oil mixture so I can't comment on it - maybe I should try it!

Thank you very much! Why not using a swab instead of a feather which might loose small parts?

It's true that sometimes bits come off the feather, but they are easy to remove. The problem with using a swab is that if you put enough oil on the swab to coat the bore effectively, the oil runs into the tone holes as the swab is compressed in the bore, ruining the pads.

La pluma es de pato? O de ganzo? Gracias!

Es una pluma de pavo. Supongo que el ganso también lo haría.

hi Richard, thanks for the info! May I know what should I do when my oboe has a surface crack? my teacher told me to use bore oil but i don't really know how...

Sorry for the delayed reply! Oiling the bore helps protect from cracking. It won't help with a crack once it's happened. You need to take it to a good technician to have it fixed properly.

Is that "Sweet Almond Oil"? The Tech guy I use recommends it for Clarinet. Yes, and what is it about you Oboists and feathers? There must be some nervous geese in your neighbourhood....anyway, thanks for sharing that.

    Why not use grenadilla oil?
